Ive actually seen Uboats, ALL dash 7s, 8s, 9s, CW’s, W’s, AC, even F40PH’s. Around 1999, at my grandparents house, i actually saw a NS coal train from Durham NC to Macon GA. Lineup was a mashup. High Hooded SD40-2, C30-7, C36-7, C39-8E, a B30-7A, and a U23B high hood. Don’t have footage but remember it well. Almost at 7 PM when the freight went across the nursing home. Also saw a mixed freight with a splash of CSX power. The mixed mashup of units were as followed. A NS SD60, ATSF GP39-2, CSX GP38, NS GP40X (likely 7001), a conrail B36-7, and a SSW C39-8. There was also a rarity with a mixed freight almost before midnight with a U30B, a C630, Sd70M, and a pair of C40-9W’s from NS. I miss those days
Dan, it's too bad you didn't get to the Grand Trunk Westerns Elsdon Yard, it was just about 3 miles north of the east end of the Belts Yard at Hayford Junction. At the time you shot this video the GT had already closed Elsdon, and shifted most of their switching and train orders to the Belt Railway of Chicago about 8 years before you shot this!
@@dlcluley Yeah, I always forget how big the GTW was in Michigan, i was to young to think about making videos at the Elsdon Yard, I see a lot of pictures if the yard on the internet, but can't find much video of it. Wish i would have thought of doing it.
Good times! The Pepsi Cans and ABBA set on the 199 train made that day, for me. Wish I'd liberated a souvenir from that scrapline at McCook now. Did we EVER go to Chicago in sunshine!? ;)

I wish I had shot more GTW in Chicago, but because I saw them all the time at home it was never a priority on trips.
