Guy, Flat out great, just great. Ry is an musical idol of mine and Billy The Kid drove me to learn the mandolin. I hear in his playing the rarest of musical qualities; playing for the song. He is also a rarity that there are about 6 Ry Cooder tutorials in existence (unlike the countless tributes to the musical hacks featured here and elsewhere on the Interwebs.) If Ry were inclined to smile, I think you'd get a big one from him Guy. This is one YT video to listen to and learn from. Great.
Grumps ! So glad to hear from you . I hope you are well . I am in the middle of my selling season for my flower-pots so Im crazy busy . I do love older Ry Cooder work. His spare but rhythmically wonderful mandolin and slide work is like nothing else in the world . What an addition he has been for music in so many lives . All the best , Guy
Good Morning Gadaya ( or should I say good afternoon for you) . Thanks for the visit . My wife's sister and kids are coming this summer for a visit from southern France . The kids have very little english and its wonderful for all of us to get together to work at communicating !Its so easy when people are kids to get ideas across in ANY language .. More soon and all the best , Guy
Hello Irwin , My Dad was an abstract Inpressionist and chaired the art department at Brooklyn college as well in the late 40's and 50's and 60's so I understand what your saying !. We had close friends who had hand drums everywhere around the piano and the most wonderful samba parties .. He (Sandy Calder ) came back from Brazil with a pile of wonderful records that the adults all danced the night away to .I got to play the drums! Great to hear from you and all the best , Guy
Listen up, all you young folks: this is how you oughta do it...with lotsa gusto! Just look at this guys face: can anyone have more fun in performing a great song? I think not. Well done, that man!
Nothing better then a bit of sparse mandolin on this song .Ry Cooder was genius on his version from"Into the Purple Valley" ". That record changed my life.. All the best , Guy
Hello Friedel , my friend . I was thinking of you when I did this so Im glad you found it . Slide works best when you stay loose and focused at the same time and thats hard to pull off . I wish I could do some of the great playing you come up with here as well !! Thanks , . The amp is an older Fender "Blues Junior " I bought to play out and then got some celebrity in the pottery world so didn't have the time to play out . So here we have YT .. Yay .. All the best , Guy
