Hello everyone, Btw, I have painted my giraffe planter now. You can see the steps to make planter from waste and pictures at my website: www.clay-it-now.com/giraffeplanter.html It's super easy and most importantly, the paper clay works beautifully for sculpting.
Thank you or the recipe! Post lockdowns it is possible to make the more common recipe for paper mache clay, but I was looking for a recipe that was more earth-friendly. I love that using your recipe, I can cheerfully send any failures straight to the compost bin. If any leftover clay starts to go funky, it too can go straight into the compost bin, something I wouldn’t do with the clay made using the more common recipes. Brilliant!
You are welcome. Glad that you can make fairy tales project - fairy houses? Please share your craft at Clayitnow Facebook or IG - tag me @clayitnowchannel
Not everyone has one at home, but a lot of home/offices will have a paper shredder, which is invaluable for this kind of project. And it recycles old newspapers and magazines which become (hopefully) great art works. 🙂 On someone's video who does mostly papier mache she reckons it's better to tear the paper rather than cut it. I wonder if that would help with water absorption? Speed it up because the edges are all thinned out by tearing...? Is there less or more chance of cracking when the project dries, with this method?
Well this is just plain COOL!!! I will try to make beads out of this. And also try in silicone molds. I wonder if you can add gluten powder to the rice flour??? Instead of "glutinous rice flour"??? I think that must be what they do, cuz regular rice flour does not have gluten. (I'm pretty sure!) I buy gluten powder to add to my regular flour to make bread flour. Good for bread making. I think gluten is the "gluey" part of the flour. Like when you knead bread and it gets "stretchy". Takes place of glue. *** Love this video. Your projects are excellent. I watched several of your videos. You are an excellent artist. Very talented!!! This would be great for entertaining the children!! For CHEAP!! I LOVE CHEAP (FREE) ART & CRAFT SUPPLIES!!! Love all things DIY!! I plan to try this with extra water as texture paste!!! Then add fine sand to make DIY grit paste!!! (That's what I was searching for when I found your video!!!) Thank you for the great video! Austin,TX USA
Same here😁 we can create beautiful things with cheap materials around us. I am not sure about gluten powder but seems you have many plan to do. Give it a try though. Have fun👍👍👍👍👍
Hi would it be possible to get the exact recipe for this ie, how much newspaper, glutinous rice flour and plain flour? Thanks in advance - love your videos by the way 💛
which one of the clay option did you use for making the giraffe planter, is it the one with more flour or pulp. thank you for the video btw, I visited your website for the details
Hello from Poland. I have a question. Is this clay is waterpfoof or not? Can I use pots making with this clay outside? i need something on cemetary. Probably it will not be frost resistant. And can I use toilet paper in this recipe? But I have many ideas for Christmas decoration with this clay. Tahnks for sharing this. Hugs.
There's a product called "Paverpol" which you can dissolve and paint onto a clay or clay/papier mache project to make it waterproof, or it comes premixed in liquid form - you can also soak fabric or material in it, then drape the fabric anyway you want; it sets as hard as concrete after a while, giving you a chance to rearrange your project if using fabric. Lots of similar things available in hardware type stores too. You could also use any outdoor varnish on the clay pots, as long as you're not using them for food.
Can i use anything instead of the glutinous rice flour? I do have lentil seed flour, its extremely fine, do you think that will work in place of the glutinous rice flour?
Yeah, a processor is the only way to go for a good paper clay pulp; and your's looked good. Just curious, were you indicating that more flour makes for a softer clay? I wish you'd shown the finished Giraffe planter, I'm sure it was awesome. Or is that for another video? :)
Thanks. More flour makes the clay smoother and slightly softer than the one with more pulp. I made the giraffe planter for testing and stop there because I like the light grey colour. It looks like giraffe cement planter, isn't? 😁
@@clayitnow Thanks; the Giraffe planter does indeed look exactly as it should, and is worthy of it's own thumbs ups. I too like the grey color of it; It's beautiful. :)
Yes, you can keep it in the fridge but not for long. Thanks. Looking forward to see your clay craft project. Please tag me @clayitnowchannel on your picture if you publish it at IG.
Once the paper pulps mixed with flour, it won't last long. So, always work with fresh clay. But, you can keep the pulps for sometimes and just mix it with flour when you need it.
Aha... Honestly that giraffe planter I make with paper clay is only few days old😁 But, paper pulp is very strong. I am sure it will last for many.. Many.. Years👍
I thought so. My fairy houses craft with tissue paper clay last for many years. Newspaper fibre is more dense and stronger than tissue so yeah.. It will last very long after varnishing.

I think that's personal prefetence to cut or tear the paper. I think the consiatency and mixture balance of the clay is more important.

Love your vid! A question though, how long does it usually take for the clay to completely dry or solidify before painting it?
Thanks.it depends on your clay thickness abd humidity in your place.
Thank's for sharing! Love your work! ♥️
Thanks
Hi would it be possible to get the exact recipe for this ie, how much newspaper, glutinous rice flour and plain flour? Thanks in advance - love your videos by the way 💛
For example if I used a full newspaper, how much of the flours would I need to add?
Thanks. You can start with 1 part newspaper pulps, 1 part flour + 1 part glutinous flour, and adjust the water/ flour as needed.
Merci beaucoup pour votre recette ❤❤
Interesting and good to know. Thanks
This clay can also be use in klaypel art in canvass?
Thank you for this video I will give this a go. 😃
I just want to know, how long do you leave it to dry?
I have a good paper shredder that is a crisscross cutter would that make easier to make into clay? Ty
It doesn't matter how you cut/tear the paper.. as long as you can make good paper pulp.
will it work without the rice flour i dont have it
Thank you for sharing. How would you make your planter waterproof inside and out?
One easy way would be to use a paintbrush and brush on a layer of melted wax :)
which one of the clay option did you use for making the giraffe planter, is it the one with more flour or pulp. thank you for the video btw, I visited your website for the details
Thanks for your visit and for watching my videos. I use clay with more paper pulp for giraffe🙂
oh okay thank you, I'm making this for my recycling project at school, wish me luck!
All the best with your school project.
I tried this clay making it passed I got a nice results thanks 😁

Can I use normal rice flour instead of glutinous one?
You can try that...
@@clayitnow thank you
Does this work with normal rice flour please
Woww I can’t wait to make this giraffe next week 😊😊😊
Wow wonderful great work friend 👍 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Can we use the clay immediately or we have to keep for 1-2 days to set?
I use it immediately and it works too👍😊
Okay :)
Hola que buena masa 👍 saludos 💕

Can we use PVA glue instead of Glutinous Rice Flour?
Yes you can but It may give you different texture/result🤔

Also not tapioca flour, they are both pricy and I’m crafting on a tight budget

What will happen if I don't add glutinous rice flour ?
Can this work with coconut flour? That the only flour i have currently
I am not familiar and never try coconut flour. Would you try and share your experience with us?
I do not have rice flour, can I use all purpose flour to make the clay? Hope to here from you
I use flour (plain flour or all purpose flour is okay) and glutinous rice flour. If you don't have rice flour, replace it with tapioca flour :)
clayitnow thank you, rice flour is hard to find here in California, I will have to really look for tapioca as well
Okay.. Hope you find your tapioca flour or maybe you call it arrow root?
Doesn’t it grow mold?
It will. That's why I mix the pulps with flour in small quantity so I can use it all.
Can I use corn starch instead of rice flour?
Yes, but it will give you different result.
Can we store it? ,I am in love with your projects, feeling to make n show you one

I don't have explanation just thinking it may increase the stickiness 😁

Yes, you can but the result may not be the same
I added sugar water instead of normal water because sugar makes the clay sticky and I don't have rice flour.

do I need the rice flour?
It's better but up to you 😁
How much time it takes to dry
It depends on clay thickness and humidity/ weather in your place. Most of my projects takes about 2-3 days
Doesn’t the clay get spoiled since it’s made of edible stuff
I saw someone adding vinegar as a preservatif
