    Though I love shows like Critical Role, these old Acq Inc. episodes really strike a cord with me in how the table actually plays. The way they argue and joke and shit-talk with one another is way more like my own group
    Chris is also a really casual DM. He doesn't write big descriptions or dramatically acy his character (not that he couldn't), he just sits back and tells it like it is

      tbh, after being so used to ac inc and their comedic focus I wasnt really able to get into critical role. however I only gave it a shot once and didnt have the patience to get into something new at the time. for me the fun component was kinda missing but it couldve very easily been that I just caught an episode that was very plot heavy so the players took it more seriously. would you recommend giving it another shot ?

    • @duttdits
      @duttdits 2 года назад +1

      @@frankie9373 100% recommend it. It is much more serious, but they get up to some less serious stuff like Grog the barbarian talking to his sentient evil sword in a porta potty and trying to play it off as talking to the dump he's taking when one of his party members overhears him in there. Lol. They aren't too far into the third campaign now so it would be the one to get into if you want to watch it when it comes out every week. But my favorite by far was their first campaign. The second campaign was good but it was very political and didn't feel like it really got good to me until about the midway point of the entire campaign after they got out of the foreign country where all the politics were.

      Its my understanding that Jerry had meetings with the WotC guys and had alot of say in the overall flavor of the campaign. The WotC guys handed out pregens with empty slots for the character names/backgrounds but had everything else made before hand and Mike was basically being bribed to even sit down to play.

    "That's the type of name that might end up in, oh, say, a D&D product one day."
    I do believe that 5th edition lists "Binwin" as one of the possible choices for a dwarf character's name.
    I'm also pretty sure that *SPOILER* it is canon that Omin Dran is one of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep. As in, in the novels set in the Forgotten Realms, Omin is spoken of as a Lord of Waterdeep.
    The great thing about this series of videos is that they are enjoyable to listen to multiple times.

      BaSH PROMPT Actually quite a few honor the character and in fact this entire party. They have grown to such a degree that many reference them in passing. As in "We couldn't get the wonderful party of Acquisitions Inc. so we had to hire you." Or even someone might say "He is no Jim Darkmagic, but he will do."
      It is a form of respect to them that others use them in at least a phrase, and of course it is a good way to let your players know what world or timeline you are currently playing in.
      And on another note, I understand this is the internet and you can easily hide behind your keyboard, but I do have one question "Why do you have to be so rude?"

    Mike: "This reads very much like a tactics game, doesn't it?"
    Had 4th edition been called something like "D&D Tactics" instead of "Fourth Edition", then it might have avoided much of the hate-rage.

      It would have made for a decent one-person-controls-a-party RPG game, like the Baldur's Gate series. But then again, most of the mods for Baldur's Gate 3 are focused on making the game as much like DnD 5e as possible, so **shrug**

    I've seen the later stuff and loved it so I had to come back to the beginning. Its amazing how this company comes to be... they are so much more decisive than my group. Gotta Love Jerry Holkins Leadership, Jim Darkmagic is as cocky as balls, and Scott Kurtz as Binwin Bronzebottom is a freakish comedic genius (though they all really are). I'd pay money to play with Chris Perkins as my DM.

    By the way, the dice shown as an image here is NOT any dice that should be used for any D&D or #Shantup or any other game like that. Not really random.

    • @simonbeaudoin1886
      @simonbeaudoin1886 10 лет назад +1

      Look like a D20 to me. So why do you say this?

    • @VitalBlursDnD
      @VitalBlursDnD  10 лет назад +15

      Simon Beaudoin Because it's actually a 'life spin-down counter' normally used in Magic the Gathering TCG. Notice how the numbers are pretty much in sequence? A true D20 wouldn't be that way, so ShantupWOG has a point, but some people use them. I used it for the photo because it's 'giant' in size and easy to photograph : )

    • @ShantupWOG
      @ShantupWOG 10 лет назад +6

      ***** The reason this dice does not work is because if I were to have this dice in a D&D or #Shantup game I would could easily have the higher numbers on one side and try to make sure it spins like a top with lower numbers at the bottom instead of just letting it role naturally. That way I may not always get a 20 on it but I can get anything from 16-20 on a regular basis and have better chances of success. But I see why Vital Blurs DnD used it, I agree much easier to photo.

    • @LogicBeforeNorms
      @LogicBeforeNorms 9 лет назад +1

      Simon Beaudoin Too easy to slightly weight to give an advantage. Also if you get good at throwing it's easy to get in the general area.

    • @tarawright7538
      @tarawright7538 9 лет назад +3

      ShantupWOG So, what you're saying is, you have no problem with the die itself; just with people who would use it to cheat?
      So... your problem is actually with cheaters?
      Hmm. I agree. Cheating is bad.

      DND is practically free form jazz in the sense that (from a DM stand point) you have to be ready for ANYTHING the players think of, that you have to play along with in a seamless fashion. Making sound as if *as dm* it was planned all along. Which makes for an amazing game session

    How would the series had gone had Chris allowed Omin be a Warlord?
    Also, how would things have been different had Scott chosen the Dragonborn paladin pre-made character instead of the dwarf? (Their characters are the pre-mades that came with “Keep on the Shadowfell”)
