Good job. Great video. Very good coaching. Great follow up to this that would help me is how to aim to those targets. Chest, shoulders, feet, hips, and how the target moves in our eyes as we approach the foul line and what to do about that, i.e. how the target drifts to the right (for right hander) as we approach the foul line and how to compensate for that natural target drift from physics 👍🏾
I understand the concept what I would like to know is what was done differently between the 2 shots, was the ball changed if so what was the difference between the balls, or was the hand position changed and how? Thank great info.
Always enjoy Chuga videos! I have not been focusing on the down lane target area lately, it could explain my lack of carry. I will work on it. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for how you explained and demonstrated targeting in this video. I'm relatively new to bowling (started six months ago), and while I read about three-point targeting early on, it was just a little too much for me when I was new, so I focused on two things - where I slide and the target at the arrows. I think it's time I started looking down lane at the break point as well. I'll try that the next time I practise.
Over the years I have gravitated to the down-lane target, usually around the 9-10 board area, 40-45 feet down the lane. I've tried using the arrows but am not consistent there. Not sure why but once I went to the down-lane target my scores quickly improved. Using the arrows, I was averaging around 160. Using the down-lane target I am averaging upper 190s. In practice, where I can bowl a little faster, I am averaging 218. The bottom line in bowling is to work with what you have and make the most of it. Loved watching Choogs bowl on TV. YT has many PBA tournament videos, where he and other great pro bowlers can demonstrate their amazing skills. I usually watch 3-4 of these videos each week and take my style cues from the best bowlers from the 1970s through today. Haven't tried the 2-handed style of bowling but may try it out in practice sometime.
That's what I did too. I used dots, then arrows, back to dots, even tried the foul line dots. What a mess I was. Worrying if I hit that little arrow or dot.. now I look down lane at the break point, and it's like throwing into a swim pool. So much more miss room. Avg went from 187 to 221. All from targeting down lane. Works wonders.
@@JoeBrrFan Great job, Joe. It can be hard to pull one's self out of problems like that but you did it and that's great. Sometimes we just have to take a step back from what we are doing to try some experiments. At some point we usually find something that works best for us. Excellent increase in your average, Joe... much respect. 👍
Excellent demonstration and explanation. Thanks as usual gentlemen. I have always been one to keep my game and thought simple. I truly appreciate you.🤙🏿🤙🏿💯💯
Love Choogs. One of my all time favorites. Could you make a video with Choogs on spare shooting? He was a great spare shooter on tour and I would love to get some insight into what he learned under the mentorship of Norm Duke and Brian Voss. Like Norm, he would use reactive for his spares instead of plastic which is something that I really like and try to do as well.
My center does not have those markers down lane is there a way to know where they are without seeing them would it be in front of a certain pin maybe ?
Mine has them, but I can barely see them as they're just slightly darker than the rest of the lane. Someone is welcome to correct me, but I'm pretty sure the outer most down lane marker lines up between the 6 and 10 pin (7-4 for lefties). So, I'd say using the 3, 6 , or 10 pin as a down lane reference depending on style and pattern length.
The straight approach is good when the lanes are freshly oiled and there's plenty of oil on the edge of the lane to keep the ball on line. The more down and in approach is necessary when oil on the side has burned up and you need to move left to find oil to get the ball to the break point without hooking early.
Would've liked more on his last comment. How to know how much to change gour angle depending on what the environment is showing you. For example, if im a low speed medium rev two handed lefty leaving stone 7 multiple times whats the angle /board move. Or my light mixer is leaving the 6-10, how many boards left is ny move etc
Whats the speed of the ball to make it hook from the Left side of the lane plaing 4th arrow. I primarily place 2 houses, 1 says i throw it 14-15mph and the other house is 17-18 mph so i assume the MPH detector is in different spots at different alleys buttt if u were to hook the ball over middle arrow from the left side, whats the ideal ball speed ? love the vid and all the videos but noone on the internet ever seems to say the ideal ball speed to play far left. I get rev rate and all that but lets say ( hypothetically) ur mid to high revs and want to play center arrow from the left side, whats the ball speed ? again love the video its just that noone ever says the mph when talking about moving alotttt of boards. is it 12.5 mph or 17 mph with high revs ? thanks fellas !!
So I don't use dots or arrows. I only look at the breakpoint. However, I can adjust my eyes nearer or farther from the break point. If you want the ball go down father, make your target farther down with you eyes. Literally look father down lane, than may be necessary for you to hit your board. Or look closer if need be. One or the other will work for you.
Remember that the angles you see when you start on the approach are DIFFERENT than what you will end up with at the foul line. The farther back you start, the bigger the difference.
Good video!
I think that visualization of the entire desired ball path is the most important part of the pre-shot routine.
Thank you for the tips.
More Choogs videos, please. Love his game.

I tried this out today in the Sr league. It works...when I hit my mark.
I needed this. I'm going to practice this today.
mike i watch him when i was a kid love watching him bowl 😂
why is that funny?

Great visual learning video. Finally, someone understands how to teach the people who need it most!

You guys just knocked it out of the park on this very informative video and thank you i will try this on my league today😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤

This is the first time i've seen Mike since he was on tour early 2000's....feel like I jumped in a time machine!!

Go watch this one. One of the most impressive bowling displays on film.
Very helpful. Thanks a lot!
Great video. All hail the Choogs! Good to see you back on the channel, and thank you both =)

6 pin, if there is no down lane markers.
Markers are usually on 10 board and 15 board for righties or lefties. My center doesn’t have them either but u can always find the 10 board down lane.
Thank you for this video ❤
Choogs keeping in great shape
What are the advantages of the two different approaches?

Do you feel a lighter ball equals higher backswing and ball speed

Any tip on how to reach that 6-7-8 board down the lane. My ball turns too soon. Especially moving left.

What is this white robe and stethoscope? You're not trying to impersonate a medical doctor, are you?
Aim with 2 hands. 😂
Loved it when Mike did the flop in Omaha years ago!!
Yes, that was a classic case of putting everything he had into that shot. lol
