Master Fou spoke of the affinity of Chinese people for Chopin. Those versed in China’s classical traditions like Fou’s celebrated father (who also translated French classics) passed on a love of the Polish expatriate’s formality and poise and also his harnessed wildness; consider classical Chinese landscape painting. Far from being a foreign player aping Western emotions, I think Fou and many Asian musicians who followed can teach us a great deal - and make us fall in love all over again with this marvelous music. R.I.P.

What a precious recording. Very fine Chopin playing and I thoroughly enjoy the music even though it is not the best of sound quality. If you have more of Fou's recordings, please upload more. I can't find this recording anywhere now. Fou is no question one of the best Chopin interpreters. His unique and deep understanding of the composer gives him incredible insight into the music. And, of course with his superb piano techniques, he is able to bring what is in his mind and heart to his finger tips. For those who are interested in Fou, there is a book which mainly documents his letters with his father discussing literature and music. After you have read the book, you will know why Fou is no ordinary pianist. His rich background in literature and music from youth has made him such a great artist. I was very fortunate to hear him live in concert years ago. Thank you for restoring the record. Yes, please do the other side.

The most electrifying rendition of the final movement of this Sonata I have yet to encounter and be astonished by. I had the vinyl LP of this recording in the 1970s and listened to it numerous times. Fou Ts'Ong shows how deeply he is in touch with the spirit of Chopin through the whole piece, not just the last movement. The piano celebrity Martha Argerich's performance that I have just listened to is, by comparison, though good, much inferior to my ears.
