I know that this sounds like I am having FOMO, but you cant blame me if that's how gacha works. Before this (no matter which gacha), I would unconsciously mark spots where i found/opened the chests so that i can have a way to tell that I have found them so that later, i can mark them off in the online interactive map. This is to avoid me losing count on which chests that i have found so that i dont have to backtrack to every chest just to reach that 100%. But, 2.0 Wuwa became my first update in gacha where I dont have to worry about losing counts anymore. The way they place 4 or 5 chests together in a group, and then doing a mini quest to find all of them is just so good, i dont think it gets the attention it deserves right now. And all of these treasure spots are marked IN-GAME. Also, the fact that you can track each stuff that can help you to 100% that particular area really is just another way to tell you "don't worry you can explore anyhow anytime you want without ever worrying about missing anything bcs we can help you to track the stuff that you missed". And all of that is done in-game without forcing you to tab in tab out of the game. That's a massive QOL, the best I've seen in the gacha industry.
You can still use the loot mapper since there are some chests not included on the grouped ones, there are even chests hiding behind the breakable cubed rocks that you can destroy with Cuddle Wuddle and these won't show on the lootmapper makes you want to go all over the world to break them because of an itch you have :D
@@couchpotato1546 only problem is theres plenty of chests the chest radar doesnt detect, such as those behind a specific interaction, puzzle, quest and etc. the radar just lets you know the chests that exists already in the overworld, not those that spawn after a requirement is fulfilled
At first I thought it got rid of the point of exploration but now I realized I only wanted gems from chests anyway so why not just make it easier? Hope they continue with this direction for the future.
Doing the Lorelei echo challenge, the Three Towers side quest, and the Elden Ring tree puzzle all completely blind made me realize Kuro knows what they’re doing with the game now
Yeah I agree, the three towers I just happened to see the mercenary standing there named, so i talked to him and he led to a massive quest line that blew me away. Lorelei song was amazing, and the Echo trapped as the gameskeeper in the center of the city was such a good design element.
0:45 "If you were enjoying Wuthering Waves, you are getting more Wuthering Waves. No alternative mini games like hide and seek or gardening to make potion." I hear you, loud and clear, and I never thought about how silly those things always have been. Bravo! A very solid video.
I think I found the term you're looking for. It's organic exploration. Games like Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, and Elden Ring you find tons of stuff off the beaten path not connected to any quest giver. It's one of my most favorite features of an open world game and I'm glad WuWa is taking note of this.
The funny thing for me is because they made the exploration so seamless that they made chest zones, after doing each zone because the amount of stuff I got per zone I was so contented with the astrites and shell credits I received, that I never bothered searching for more hidden chests. Well not until I got the loot mapper permit in Rinascita, I was like wait there were more chests?? Lmao for me those chest zones made the exploration more about enjoying how freaking beautiful the world is and finding more secrets than trying to search around like a mad man just to find more chests for premium currency
Bc there-s people that don't like the change as they say it beats some of the purpose of the exploration. At the same time, there still are hidden treasures outside of the marked spots so it's not like it was changed completely
@@lynkios This is ironic, because instead of focusing on the environment, random chest placements softly forces you into looking out for them. Instead of looking at the mountain top or a broken pillar, you see a chest spot. Architecture of cities gets turned into "hmm, that balcony looks like a chest!" "I bet there's a chest under that small bridge" "where else can a chest be hidden than behind that house with sus garden?! HahA I'm sO SmArT!"
@lynkios I personally think this aids in exploration. U don't need random chest sitting all across the setting to feel the need to walk around every inch of the land. There's enough chests spots in each area that u see enough interesting sights and the the spots not with chests have other activities like the paintings or dream battle or a quests takes u there. Also it just makes it easier to 100% it all instead of running around looking for the one u missed. Or setting down lootmapper after lootmapper
Do you think it's a cool idea if they add dungeons in the next region where you clear enemies and the final boss and then unlock some character or special weapon? Like the dungeons in Elden Ring that give you different loot
This is the kind of content that should be praised more, unlike the whole drama/tribalism side of wuwa youtube. Hope this video, and your channel as a whole will get more recognition, and will be looking forward for new videos of yours
Really loved the Lifer, it is hinted at the event but you can just stumble upon it if ou don't check it. One of my favorite moments was when I landed in one of the bridges and suddenly there was a cutscenes of those Knights starting a fight between them, that was so cool
The lifer and The Lumiscale construct quest were the 2 surprised quest that made me went "Woah" . These 2 quest will never give you an indication that they are starting. Just an easy puzzle that if you didn't do, nothing happens, but when you do them, they unravel an open-world narrative that doesn't show you word vomit, but instead it feels like a choose your story game, that changes the world after you do the quest.
I remember spending hours to think of sure hit strategy against Lifer... By that time I was like "wait why did I waste so much time on beating him over and over without getting anything special" then I realize I was playing the game because its fun and not because I have to it just for the rewards.
@@MKnight47 Lol same The Lifer was fun ngl I still return sometimes to maybe find a solution to beat him in the puzzle not in fighting even though it is clearly impossible
Just wanna say, great video analyzing this section bcs i've seen some ppl doesn't really like this approach like chest group placement or "accidental" quest that prevalent to many great open world games and said something like " Why they make exploration too easy with flying or chest group etc? or why do they doesn't "spoonfeed" me with the lore from this region or these world quest from get go and need to be explored first?" and i am sad looking at those comment. And looking back to ur vids 7 months ago talking about open world in 1.0 that feels really empty, i am glad they learned from that, and this 2.0 really emphasis their development. As someone who played PGR too, PGR have similar experience with WuWa with its early version that felt "okay" but they always try to experiment, learn new things, and grow higher after that. And lastly, i really hope they make a non gacha game based of what they learnt from their experience PGR and WuWa or even other games, even though it's not really profitable, bcs they have potential to create something better than gacha game.
I've been playing Wuthering Wave since day 1. Honestly the game has improved a lot over the 4 patches of version 1. But 2.0 is a massive leaf in quality.
Exactly the treasure zone approach of stuffing a lot of chests around a single Point of interest helps the explorations a lot, the chest aren't under every single rock or crevice they are hidden cleverly near points of interests u would naturally be drawn to while running around or flying. Also is helps with the sheer tedium of collecting all chests. The chest are gonna give scraps anyways so why not have them cluster in smaller location that are interesting rather than mindlessly scattering them everywhere. Also great video dude.
10:10 i get the hate for "gacha" because i do too. And lets's be clear gacha = gambling regardless if you are f2p or not. I actually hate it when people call gacha games a "f2p game" because it's just not. Maybe you haven't paid anything in a game but that person who lost their 50/50s paid that for you. But let's be honest do you think it's even possible to remove gacha in these games at this point? Or is it even viable for these types of games to exist without the gacha part?
The other side to this being able to play the game for free. Not everyone has access to money even if it is to buy a game. Sure u can pirate it but getting to play a game faithfully without paying is also a plus. I agree its predatory but post 1.3(Black Shores) especially 2.0 now, i get to enjoy this hame without actually paying for it and its genuinely enjoyable.
I think it's not possible to remove the gachas atm but they could make them better. I'm happy with the game having good income but being so predatory just feels so wrong. Hoyoverse can get away with it coz their fanbase is just braindead but I wish Kuro was a big more condescending.
Man, I've played countless mmorpgs, WuWa is INFINITELY the least abusive game I've ever played in my life, most mmorpgs you don't even have a chance to get items, stronger equipment, weapons, class... to face a certain challenge, and if there's a f2p option, you need to farm for 200 hours to get it, this is a much more abusive method than Wuthering Waves' Gacha. Any other game that isn't as abusive is paid in some way, which already takes away its f2p status.
@ Well, I don't think that takes away from how abusive the methods of these games are, especially when we get into the area of Asian mmorpgs, similar to WuWa, like Grand Chase, Elsword, Perfect World (Which is the most p2w game I've ever played in my life).
Gosh, I've found a great channel... Not because of Wuthering Waves (well, it is what brought me here LOL), but you'll also cover MH Wilds later... Yosh, great video!
For me, 2.0 was a lot of rushing from point A to B. I overused the new exploration helper on the map which leads the player to the closest point of interest. I used it as soon as I didn't see something to do right in front of me, and this ruined the exploration. Next patch I'm going to pretend the helper feature doesn't exist, and just explore on my own.
Only gripe from me for 2.0 is they shouldnt allow flight like it is now from start its should be like something that you can dash in air like in genshin ( even though thats bad) and it should upgrade into the current flight and it should unlock after you go through the map on foot least once or something like have least 10 to 20% progress on exploration on all region
Having cool weapons and skils defeats the purpose of gacha But finding palette swaps or prints on clothing(like different drawing on it) or weapons that work specifically with Rover? That would actually be cool and make you want to play as Rover cause you could customize them and use cool weapons for him that shake up the gameplay Like lengthening the stasis we create so it's 6 seconds, or applying spectro damage as Havoc rover and vice versa, or allow you to air-dash multiple times and increase plunge damage by a huge margin
