I will admit that as a standalone episode, it is one of the best in the series. All I hope for is that, if they do have a movie or a season 7 (whatever comes first), they end on a more conclusive note.
Frankly, the show couldn't have ended any other way besides the void taking over. It's the only lore accurate way to end it. This is a world that only exists to be a TV show. The moment the show ends, the world ends with it, in a static apocalypse.
I'm so mixed on this finale, because it's very clearly set up to have a part two finale of some kind, whether a movie or a final season, it's clear the intention was for this to set up something else, but that hasn't happened despite how many times it was suppose to happen. I fully agree that, as an episode, this episode is fantastic, and even as a finale it kinda fits to just kinda... stop, which was always what Rob was scared of happening! That said, the issue I have is, oddly enough, how much confidence it had in a continuation, despite that maybe not happening in hindsight. When it ends with 'It Started', and we get basically nothing else on a continuation, and we're just supposed to accept this as the only closure, it's definitely hard to swallow. If it had actually gotten a timely conclusion, no issue! But we don't live in that timeline. If it just had a little bit of uncertainty, and ended with him saying 'It's Over' instead, it'd be way easier to accept as a finale, and would make one last continuation only that much more intriguing! But, for what it is, I definitely think this episode, as an episode, and finale, are better than most people wanna give it credit for!
There are amazing layers that I think would be lost if it gets revived, like how the *finale* is initially a school of weirdos fighting against a Big Bad Authority plot which on any other network, in any other situation, would be like the fifth or fourth generic one - but why is it *the ending* to this show? Because Cartoon Network wanted to overhaul their network and cater toward a less “toon” centered demographic, with the Zaslav/Snyder stand-in attempting to make the kids/network fit in more. Doesn’t Zaslav sound like an extremely cartoony name? It also works as a metaphor to what would eventually happen to the studio itself: being sold off for parts by people who don’t understand animation or why it functions the way it does.
@@eatatjoe I thought it was more a reference to the original concept of the show of "A school of rejected mascot / cartoon characters trying to learn how to fit in". So it is appropiate it ends in the school, With a darker take on the show's precursor premise
I agree with you on spoilers. Knowing what happens gives you a chance to look back and really appreciate and analyze what they did when writing it. I noticed as well that Gumball started slipping a bit in season 6, which I assumed was normal considering season 5 is the best season of the show in my opinion. But it still released a lot of bangers till the end.
I avoid spoilers unless it’s really bad. And I don’t watch anything unless it’s already over. Or the twists are so earth shattering that everyone online is talking about it that they’re basically forcing me to watch it immediately!
I'm reminded of how Robot Chicken at least for a short time had a running gag that they'd get "cancelled" at the end of each season and then "renewed" at the start of the next.
This may sound like the work of a conspiracy theorist, but I think that what Banana Barbara said by “There is no future” was true in the sense of what eventually happened with the WB Discovery acquisition. There is no future because it is tossed away for reality TV, TLC, HGTV or “normal programming”. Meanwhile, animated content or “out of the norm programming” is either cancelled, scrapped, or removed from HBO Max with some not cancelled and the only stronghold TV program block that is creating original animated content being Adult Swim. Think about it, most of the 2010’s CN hit shows were cancelled before the acquisition, almost like a premonition of things to come. Sure there was “Fiona and Cake” but that was geared towards an audience that grew up with Adventure Time. Close Enough, Infinity Train, Mao Mao, and Final Space were all IPs that did not have a large audience, so they were axed when the merger happened.
14:48 The Animaniacs reboot did something like this. If anything you could consider that the bad ending in this regard since it’s unlikely that’s gonna get renewed while Gumball is pretty much the only thing Cartoon Network has going for it at this point.
i really like chowder grows up, the reel of everyone's futures really just ends up being a string of jokes, and the overall plot of chowder not wanting to let go, growing physically, but not mentally, while still needing to advance with the changes that came as a result, is something i think it does well. and that was a rushed ending, from what i remember hearing. if it had more time to cook (heh), im sure it would have done fine.
Personally I didn’t mind this finale because when I first saw it, I could tell from the start that this episode. Not every finale needs to be a big epic finale that ties up all loose threads & makes you cry once it’s over. Sometimes all a shows finale needs to do is justify the shows existence. And that’s what this episode did. It put the cartoon logic this show had always had to the test. It answered why this form of logic is needed & that’s all it needed to do. Although I would’ve preferred it if they found a way to implement the Watterson family into the story. Since I feel like as the show went on. It slowly shifted away from constant school based adventures & more into family based adventures. Because season 6 on its own didn’t really have Gumball & Darwin at the school that much aside from a couple of episodes.
I myself have a love/hate relationship with spoilers. I'm usually okay with them as long as theyre not huge, or plot twists. But anyways. What was going on in my head while watching this episode was..."why was this hated"? I basically had the same thoughts you dd on this episode. It was clever, disturbing, and really well done. That joke with the villian running away gave me major Princess Bride vibes, which is my favorite movie. By the way, from what I can tell, this was made before live action remakes were a consistent trend, which makes it even more hilarious in hindsight. Animation For The Win!
In a way you could think of it like the ending of CheesyHFJ's ONE, which had an ending that didn't necessarily conclude the story and tell you what happens to the characters, but gives you the tools to write your own conclusion.
13:48 I think, the reason WHY the fandom didn't accept it very well, was because it didn't feature that scene Banana Barbara drew MANY episodes ago (The episode that revealed she can paint the Future to the characters) of "The Watterson family being surrounded by the Void". The fandom would have probably accepted the cliffhanger finale better if it minimum ended with THAT shot. With them probably making a call back to "The Finale" (The S2 season Finale), with Maybe Gumball desperately and weakly saying "This is the part when we are magically saved at the last minute and everything goes back to normal, right, Right, RIGHT?!" Cue the image of the family teased many episodes ago, everything freezes, maybe shows static before cutting to the credits. 14:48 That and resolve that chevkov's gag about that painting
I also have a thing about spoiling myself. It's actually how I got into watching horror movies like The Babadook or Before I Wake for instance. Even aside from that, spoilers tend to not bother me that much typically.
What's funny is, how you see the ending as the show's cancelation is possibly what the intent of the Teen Titans finale was, with the monster being black and white to represent Cartoon Network. Also, I really do like the concept of making an imaginative world boring, especially with all the uninspired trash ruling media.
I think what they were trying to do is make a good transition to the movie. I imagine the movie was gonna be about the apocolypse they've been subtly building up over the plot of the series, and it would've been tied to the cancelation of the show.
I never understood the hate for this one. Even when it first aired, I actually liked it. Sure, the movie may have never come to fruition, but even without it, the meta-commentary of the later part of the show still managed to shine through.
I'm with you man, I love spoilers. For me, even with spoilers the journey to the spoiled portion is just as important and sometimes helps me love and understand a series more!
While I like to go into things blind, I completely understand your perspective, especially cause I always feel I need to watch something twice to get the full picture and pick up on foreshadowing and other shit
That's the point. Going in blind one gets to enjoy BOTH perspectives. Going in spoiled forever ruins a potential perspective. Art isn't meant to be viewed only once and then forgotten.
Although it would've been better if it was a movie with Gumbal fighting Rob one last time and showing how much of a cartoon god he is, in an epic battle throughout the Universe.
Finally, someone who enjoys spoilers. Before a movie, game, etc, I want to absorb everything I can so I can either prepare myself, know what to look out for in anticipation, and it helps me piece together the story as I watch and build up the emotion.
It might interest you to know that, before marketing convinced everyone that the appropriate response to 'spoilers' was _anger,_ so that publishers could make their money back from bad movies and games before people knew they were bad, there was some research that showed knowing the plot twists ahead of time make a story more enjoyable.
I'm also among the few who like spoilers. It's the best way to know what to expect, especially video games. I remember reading about "Coraline" before watching it in theater, hence I already knew about the Other Mother dragging Coraline by her nose.
@user-rh6se7ie8k the movie is still in development Ben said in a recent interview during the anncey festival in june 2024 where the movie isn't canned just revise since season 7 will be the continuation of where we left of instead of the movie so the movie is gonna be developed from the ground up again
@user-rh6se7ie8k the movie is fine its not canned its just the script and everything is gonna be rework since it was supposed to the one continuing season 6 ending but season 7 is now the one
i have basically the same thoughts. like, that's the only way this show _could_ have ended. it's a show about being a show. there is no "part two" needed because it's over. no one would call the end of the universe a "cliffhanger".
For me, I always thought that "The Inquisition" as a finale was very _thematically_ satisfying, but not _emotionally_ satisfying. It completely jibes with the show, but it's a bummer of a note to end on. Unless, of course, it leads into the movie like it was supposed to, but the movie is up in the air, and Season 7 kind of undoes the meta-narrative a little.
I’m the exact same way when dealing with spoilers. And, the roller coaster analogy was spot on. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I like to be surprised but it depends on the medium. Example, Tv shows love spoilers. Movies mostly not when it comes to live action.
Gumball is better than Adventure time and Regular show because Gumball didn't rely on melodrama which is a bad idea in putting at shows as well as consistent quality Gumball was able to be good throughout its run while Adventure time and Regular show fell off in a certain point specifically in their mid seasons.
I always felt like a sadistic psycho for not only liking the ending, but also believing that the series should have ended with just this and not continuing in any way or form. Just to be clear, I am happy with the show continuing, I love Gumball, the more of it, the better. And I know that this being the official ending would meant the unfair canon deaths of our main characters; but I always liked nihilistic endings in stories coming out of nowhere and I wouldn’t have minded for the story to go that way and then nothing more; I think the concept is cool and I wish for it to be explored in other shows
Okay I could be wrong about this but from what I was able to read up and research Ben Bocquelet the creator of The Amazing World Of Gumball though happy about the success of his series always intended to have it go on ONLY 6 seasons. He only had so many ideas for episodes and admitted he knew of shows that went on longer after the passion died out and they were just making them without care and didn't want to do that with Gumball. Of course, as he doesn't OWN the series since yeah if you create a show for a Network on TV it's the network that owns and decides what to do with it and thus if the network wanted more he would have to let them do so. However in 2018 it seemed like he and CN made a deal where Gumball would end with season 6 and that he could make a follow up movie if there was fan demand which yeah after how "The Inquistion" ended there was certainly demand. But that's all Ben planned on doing with the show and how long Gumball was at one point supposed to go on for; just six seasons and the movie. But yeah that changed because like Spongebob, Gumball unexpedetley rose up and yeah weirdly enough became THE most popular Cartoon Network show at least with the core CN demographic of kids. Like even now Gumball airs 3 hours a day which considering regular CN isn't even airing 12 hours anymore (thanks to Checkboard Past being part of AS that means Adult Swim airs from 5PM to 6AM) that really shows even above stuff like Craig of the Creek, Regular Show and Teen Titans Go! how big a following the series has gotten and how CN is desperate to keep it going. Thus why in 2020 they did a bunch of recap episodes with some voice over to try and pretend there were new episodes while trying to line up a NEW deal with Ben. I guess CN though desperate for more Gumball content weren't stupid enough to go "Yeah let's just ditch the creator if they don't want to play ball like Hillenburg with Spongebob" after the SB's first movie, so tried negotiating a lot of deals with Bocquelet on how to continue the show. I believe at one point Ben was going to just make the movie and there was going to be a reboot of Gumball helmed by someone else but I think Ben officially signed on for another season which yeah is happening. Don't know how it relates to this ending since I know CN wouldn't want to fully end ANOTHER show like Gumball like that if they can just keep pumping them out but yeah it's clear there is more Gumball. I mean there's also going ot be more Adventure Time and Regular Show too because CN sadly can't get any new brands going especially with Max and Zaslav ruining that so they have to rely on while there is still a network previous hits to stay afloat. That said though I'm not the biggest fan of Gumball I don't think "The Inqusition" is bad. Though I never saw it as a finale as I always believe and still believe the movie will acknolwedge this. Whether it will tie into that seventh season coming is another thing but Gumball as a show hasn't yet end. Though yeah in a weird meta level this would be a decently solid idea though yeah I feel a finale movie would give more time for you know the family and town of Elmore to be involved then just focusing on the elementary school.
ive always liked this episode even when it first came out. maybe im used to shows ending on cliffhangers or being cut short or something so maybe that helped me stomach the cliffhanger; but generally i just think its a fun and real good episode
I mean, it’s an ok episode. But honestly the plot feels like it would make more sense for a half hour special or something. It’s a great premise for an episode. But honestly I feel it needs to be at minimum half an hour long. Maybe even a two parter so the effects of the world becoming plain can spread more. Really make it a big problem
I never had a problem with it. Just felt lacking with how they think ahead like with va changes or story ideas. Even when they drop older characters they make it a point to put them in the void. They really need that movie they keep hinting at
I'm also the type to want spoilers, but only with tv shows. Literally, your reason for not minding spoilers is exactly my reason, too. My mind immediately goes, "What was the build-up to this spoiler part?"🌟
As somebody who haven’t seen a lot of this show growing up, I can definitely relate to both opinions to the Gumball's finale. On one hand, it does have a very creative idea for a series finale. But on the other hand… Yeah, that cliffhanger definitely killed it. Leaving cliffhangers is always a risky choice, because you can’t always guess if the show will have the last chance of revealing it’s open mysteries, like with the case of Teen Titans, Sonic the Hedgehog, Victor and Valentino, etc… Unless you are indeed planning to make a continuation, whether it will be a spin-off, a movie or even comics, maybe it’s not really a good move to leave the show with unanswered questions, because you may never get another chance to dive deep into them again. :/
Great episode (always been) and cliffhanger aside still really hope we're getting that movie. At the same Annecy 2024 event Ben Bocquelet confirmed at a Q&A "It is not dead. We still have a script I'm really working on. We still kind of want to do it. But obviously, it's interesting, because with time I'm now looking at the movie we we're trying to make back then differently. So it's kinda like a good thing in a sense, but also bad, that I get to sort of like revise the story and stuff and have a really new take on it. So it is not dead." which implies its going to be different from this just as controversial synopsis for the original version teased back in 2021 "Gumball’s biggest fan finds the show’s missing episode and accidentally opens a portal connecting his world to Gumball’s cartoon world. Upon meeting his heroes, our super fan decides to team up with Gumball, Darwin, Anais, Richard and Nicole to save them from a nefarious force overtaking Elmore, while inadvertently unleashing a threat of their very own."
I actually didn't mind this episode qhen it came out. I thought it was quite good with funny moments and great tension. That was even before I knew it was a finale.

My husband especially loves watching RUclips shorts about all types of movies and tv shows he wants to watch. Don’t even get me started on Pokemon games lol
Surprised he mentioned Malcom in the Middle. I have met more people accepting their Finale. I would personally put Gurren Lagann 's finale minutes as an Ending that ruins everything for me. The whole "Nia dies right in her wedding" when it was completely unnecessary. Just Say she did the imposible and became a human that would die naturally from Age independently from The Anti-Spirals dying First Also Avataro Sentai DonBrothers 's Finale feeling like a melodramatic ripoff of Kamen Rider Revice's Finale by doing the "protagonist Will forget everything" cliché , and not in an earned way. Just randomly throw that at Best 2 episodes ago without Any Forshadowing, just for artificial "Finale" Ending while Also fightning 2 random idiots nobody Cares about
@@ianr.navahuber2195 I'd say people are pretty split on Malcom. What I've seen and heard about it disgusts me. I fear for the children of the future who have IPad parents or ones like Lois.
That is quite a take. Not one I agree with, but I can see where you're coming from. I definitely don't think it's as bad as everyone says. As the first part of a finale, it's great. And considering that was the original plan, and it what happened was out of their control. I can't truly hate it. But, it is incredibly unsatisfying not having an actual end, but a cliffhanger for the end.
Also same about the spoilers opinion. I enjoy learning about a story beforehand to catch my interest and then watching it myself to see the pieces come together in real time. My favorite story to get spoilers from is One Piece. Considering how expansive the world is and knowing who does what and why before the crew does give me an interesting experience.
Welcome to the club! I like them sometimes as well; I'm okay with knowing of something's ending, for example, because then I can think about how the plot got to that point.
I think an ending for Amazing World of Gumball would be like Link's Awakening, where the end of the game means the wind fish wakes up, the dream ends, and everyone we grew attached to ceases to exist
4:11 - 4:42 As a WandaVision fan, I totally relate to this. While I didn't think the finale was as bad as other people did, I have no problem calling it the weakest episode of the show, and it's sad to see so many people's opinions on what was a pretty deep and unique Marvel show go down the drain because of it.
Creating a great series finale is an art in of itself. In retrospect, Gumball is a very meta show and they constantly reminded the viewers they were indeed a TV show, a conclusion Gumball and Darwin were very close to figuring out in one episode. I think what could have made this finale better is if the rest of the families of Elmore's students were involved as well so the audience could see characters like Nicole, Richard and Anais one last time.
I like how Gumball just flat out says Sussie's transformation is an out right improvement. I mean he's not wrong.

As a fan of the show, I don't think we do.
Season 5 of Gumball is peak Gumball anyone who thinks the opposite is a clipwatcher
I avoid spoilers unless it’s really bad. And I don’t watch anything unless it’s already over. Or the twists are so earth shattering that everyone online is talking about it that they’re basically forcing me to watch it immediately!
La Inquisición española: Pues muchas gracias joven americano.
I was searching for your old Gumball videos right as you uploaded a new one. This is perfect.
If you're looking for old gumball episodes I highly recommend watching the RUclipsr alpha Jay show
The Inquisition is a good episode, people just wanted more
I'm reminded of how Robot Chicken at least for a short time had a running gag that they'd get "cancelled" at the end of each season and then "renewed" at the start of the next.
Really insane to believe we’ve waited for half a decade for a follow up to this finale .
Superintendent Evil
Evil Backwards is Live.
Clever.
My jaw hit the floor when saw the thumbnail
The animation in Gumball is unique. Only here you get 2 D computer and stop motion animation in the same Show.
You will love Smiling Friends if this visual approach is your thing. However, fair warning in case you're unaware, it is a VERY adult-oriented show.
Smiling Friends came later out
I think the problem is that we have nothing to go off of the cliff hanger from here but rumors
But this is a DAMN good analysis
OK, that guy who’s the principal reminds me of either Tucker or Cragen from SVU law and order
With them probably making a call back to "The Finale" (The S2 season Finale), with Maybe Gumball desperately and weakly saying "This is the part when we are magically saved at the last minute and everything goes back to normal, right, Right, RIGHT?!"
Cue the image of the family teased many episodes ago, everything freezes, maybe shows static before cutting to the credits.
Gumball is my favorite cn show. Like chowder the showrunners knew what they were doing.
Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t care about spoilers.
Hey Mr. Enter, I hope you're feeling better after your last video. Also, glad to see you talk about Gumball again.
I think what they were trying to do is make a good transition to the movie. I imagine the movie was gonna be about the apocolypse they've been subtly building up over the plot of the series, and it would've been tied to the cancelation of the show.
Thanks for this.
It's interesting to imagine how any continuation could change the reception to this episode.
Yay, more content. Much needed reprieve from the crazy month this has been so far 😊😊
I truthfully did not expect this from you. But props.
Finally, someone who enjoys spoilers. Before a movie, game, etc, I want to absorb everything I can so I can either prepare myself, know what to look out for in anticipation, and it helps me piece together the story as I watch and build up the emotion.
I wasn't even aware this show had a finale of sorts.
Its amazing that this is the only show to do the multiple art styles right! I honestly forget its an IRL background half the Time
After the finale they was the mini series clip shows being Gumball for class president and Darwin Year book .
Wait, Gumball actually ended??? That show has been on for what feels like FOREVER!
No Gumball season 7 will continue the Void the writers said the season itself will explain "whats in the void?"
@user-rh6se7ie8kSry for late reply but it explain the void but season 7 wont continue the cliffhanger

5 Years feels long If you young. This is Life Buddy
i have basically the same thoughts. like, that's the only way this show _could_ have ended. it's a show about being a show. there is no "part two" needed because it's over. no one would call the end of the universe a "cliffhanger".
Liking spoilers is common for people with High Need for Cognition, as it helps them interface with media more
Before today, I’ve never heard anyone say they dislike The Weirdo.
is it a great finale or a good episode? i feel like finale encompasses all the good elements of the series
I always felt like a sadistic psycho for not only liking the ending, but also believing that the series should have ended with just this and not continuing in any way or form. Just to be clear, I am happy with the show continuing, I love Gumball, the more of it, the better. And I know that this being the official ending would meant the unfair canon deaths of our main characters; but I always liked nihilistic endings in stories coming out of nowhere and I wouldn’t have minded for the story to go that way and then nothing more; I think the concept is cool and I wish for it to be explored in other shows
I actually like the ending for what it was trying to do - *of course* cartoons would want to prevent David Zaslav selling them for parts.
Huh. Never thought I'd see someone else who also doesn't mind spoilers and likes to hear them.
ive always liked this episode even when it first came out. maybe im used to shows ending on cliffhangers or being cut short or something so maybe that helped me stomach the cliffhanger; but generally i just think its a fun and real good episode
Happy Late Birthday John.
They really need that movie they keep hinting at
Movie is still on the works Ben is just reworking the script
Yeah, the movie needs to happen.
Leaving cliffhangers is always a risky choice, because you can’t always guess if the show will have the last chance of revealing it’s open mysteries, like with the case of Teen Titans, Sonic the Hedgehog, Victor and Valentino, etc…
Unless you are indeed planning to make a continuation, whether it will be a spin-off, a movie or even comics, maybe it’s not really a good move to leave the show with unanswered questions, because you may never get another chance to dive deep into them again. :/
the finale of Gumball feels like a spiritual successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
With Superintendent Evil being Judge Doom
Great episode (always been) and cliffhanger aside still really hope we're getting that movie. At the same Annecy 2024 event Ben Bocquelet confirmed at a Q&A "It is not dead. We still have a script I'm really working on. We still kind of want to do it. But obviously, it's interesting, because with time I'm now looking at the movie we we're trying to make back then differently. So it's kinda like a good thing in a sense, but also bad, that I get to sort of like revise the story and stuff and have a really new take on it. So it is not dead."
which implies its going to be different from this just as controversial synopsis for the original version teased back in 2021
"Gumball’s biggest fan finds the show’s missing episode and accidentally opens a portal connecting his world to Gumball’s cartoon world.

I would personally put Gurren Lagann 's finale minutes as an Ending that ruins everything for me.
The whole "Nia dies right in her wedding" when it was completely unnecessary. Just Say she did the imposible and became a human that would die naturally from Age independently from The Anti-Spirals dying First
Also Avataro Sentai DonBrothers 's Finale feeling like a melodramatic ripoff of Kamen Rider Revice's Finale by doing the "protagonist Will forget everything" cliché , and not in an earned way. Just randomly throw that at Best 2 episodes ago without Any Forshadowing, just for artificial "Finale" Ending while Also fightning 2 random idiots nobody Cares about

I didn't know that was a hated episode. It's always been one of my favorites. Although I didn't realize it was the last episode on first watch
I used to not mind spoilers but when I know who lives and dies, deaths have no impact

I thought I was the only one on this planet who loves spoilers😂
Creating a great series finale is an art in of itself. In retrospect, Gumball is a very meta show and they constantly reminded the viewers they were indeed a TV show, a conclusion Gumball and Darwin were very close to figuring out in one episode. I think what could have made this finale better is if the rest of the families of Elmore's students were involved as well so the audience could see characters like Nicole, Richard and Anais one last time.
