  • Let's go shopping for a new DAW! In the video I first narrow down the list from 24 to 10 top DAW's that seem to be the most popular. My search is based on comparing features and pricing as well as a long list of other things I need.
    My Website: sites.google.com/view/cactus-...
    Direct link to the pricing chart: sites.google.com/view/cactus-...
    Note: I apologize for not including Tracktion Waveform. I thought it was just a wave editor. It would have made my short list and there's a real good free version. I'll include it in my next video about free DAW's.

    Hi,
    I have been using Mixcraft since version 8. I now have 10.5 Pro studio. It worked well and easy to set.up with my Scarlet 18i20 3rd gen audio interface. It works well with virtual instruments. I have , East/West grand pianos and symphony orchestra. I can mix down to WAV, mp3, without issues.

    Reaper is hands down the best. It is hard to set up, but once you get it configured, it is by far the best, especially for the price $60) for personal and small business!

    I use Cakewalk for several years now and think when Cakawalk really steps over to annual subscription (149usd a year) I consider to buy Cubase.

    MixCraft 10 Pro is no slouch when it comes to a pro DAW. Literally one of the most underrated DAWS out there IMO. I have several big name DAWS that I use, but MixCraft sits right up there with them. Personally I think it’s one of the easiest and most intuitive to use. It’s a small dev team, but they sure do listen to their buyers. I’ve been with MixCraft since version 6. It has come a long way since then.

      I'll have to agree. I recorded a whole song both midi and audio and just as a test to see how far I can go without reading the manual. For the price it's definitely underrated. I'm glad I bought it still.

    Bitwig does not have ARA support unfortunately. Cubase is currently on sale including crossgrades.

    If there is a perpetual license for purchase, I’ll be sticking with Sonar. With that said, I’ll be getting an older, used Mac as a second computer. So, I’ll be trying Logic. I have an iPhone and an iPad which both come with a very capable DAW (Garage Band). I use it as an “on the go” studio, often. But, there’s no simple way to export the individual tracks to import them into Cakewalk/Sonar. However, the projects can be opened in Logic. So, I’m going to give that a shot. I’ll still use Sonar if I start a project at home. But, if I’m out somewhere and I start something on my phone, I’m looking forward to being able to just opening up the project when I get back to my place and picking up where I left off.

    Nice rundown! Nuendo is worth a look. Very forward thinking. A lot of Tv and some film guys are moving towards it. Can find sales around $300 with competitive crossgrade pricing.

      You got to be kidding? $1,400?? Nobody who has been using the free version of Cakewalk is even going to look at anything that costs more then something like $400 me included. It's possibly a great DAW but only for people making money.

      I hear ya. Some people who need multichannel and atmos tools go for it. Just letting you know about an emerging trend. StudioOne and Mixcraft are great and I'm glad you covered them. @@Cactus_Music_BC

      I've known that for a long long time. But it never worked for me. This is the rub, Everybody has a different workflow and approach to creating music. This is a good thing that there are different DAW's for everyone of us. Reaper just is way off the mark for my workflow.
      Example: today I working in Mixcraft for about 4 hours and completed a new song idea. I never read the manual! Now that's my kinda Workflow! Tomorrow I will try the same thing with Studio One.

    Sorry you didnt try Reason. You would NOT have any issues whatsoever, with anything... probably. And Its almost impossible to crash. The graphics and rack-layout is really inspiring. A fantastic mixer and sounds built in. Some querky things in the sequencer, but besides that an amazing software that puts emphasis on composing.

      I was only going by what I see as the Popular paid for DAW's. I had to narrow down the selection otherwise the video would be way to long. I will check it out later. I will defiantly include it in the upcoming video about free DAW's as it's most certainly looks good.

    As a home hobbyist, I'd like to know the negatives of just continuing to use Cbb. It does what I need it to do, I don't have to learn a new DAW, or spend money to do so. I don't find it buggy at all. If I'd do anything, I'd buy Sonar if it's not subscription based.

    • @Cactus_Music_BC
      @Cactus_Music_BC  4 месяца назад

      Not sure if you are aware that CbB will stop working sometime in the next year. They are only keeping it active long enough so people can slowly transition to either Sonar or another DAW.

    • @abc456f
      @abc456f 4 месяца назад

      @Cactus_Music_BC I didn't know that. The way I understood it was that it wouldn't be available for download anymore, but we still could use it. Well, that changes things. I'll stick with Sonar. I've been with Cakewalk since Sonar 8.5 studio and then X3. There's a cost in time and aggravation in learning a new DAW. And at age 67, time is a premium. Thanks for the clarification. Guess I would have found out sooner or later when Cakewalk failed to activate.
      Edit: I just read this: BandLab announced it will end support for the free Cakewalk DAW in favor of a new pricing structure. While users who have downloaded Cakewalk will be able to use it indefinitely, it will have zero product support going forward.
      Use it indefinitely?

    I don't understand how you could've missed Tracktion's Waveform 12 (free and pro version) It has the best free DAW available. (besides Cakewalk by Bandlab but this one is being retired)

    • @Cactus_Music_BC
      @Cactus_Music_BC  4 месяца назад +1

      Well it seems you are correct and I have just downloaded and installed it. My fault . Now I clearly see it on the list as Waveform. If I had seen the word Trackion it would have registered. I've most certainly heard that name before. But when I saw Waveforum I assumed it was a wave editor like Audacity. From just a brief look at it, I'd say it would have made the final cut. I was planning a second video where I only review free versions and so for sure this will be in that video. If You Tube allowed editing after publication I would definitely add this/.Thanks for pointing it out.

      As a free DAW is perfect. If you have to pay for it, not so good. It's too buggy and I can assure you there are better options for the price (mixcraft and bitwig) unless you work on film scoring.

    • @YvesChaput
      @YvesChaput 4 месяца назад

      @@Cactus_Music_BC No fault of yours. For some reasons this DAW is not often mentionned in those top whatever lists. It doesn't have the traditional workflow so maybe it's why it's not listed on those lists. I learned recording on this DAW ( then Tacktion 3, its workflow made more sense for my old brain) and then went on to Cakewalk by Bandlab to learn the "conventional" way of recording. And with the upcoming changes from Cakewalk I will probably go back to Waveform. Thanks for taking the time to read my comments.

      @@MASAMEDIATV I'm just a home hobbyist so I don't use my DAW extensively but I never had any stable issues with Waveform, at least since version 12 has been out. And I'm not disputing that other DAWs might be better but Waveform, like Cakewalk by Bandlab, give me what I need and the stability is excellent, from my experience.

      I played with it for about 30 minutes yesterday and it is definitely a top contender in the midrange DAW market. Reasonably priced for what it does. But yes a sort of different workflow. As I said I'll live with these for a month and then put out an update video.

    I have ONE question that NO ONE CAN ANSWER, regardless of brand or software editor:
    Can the computer find and communicate with my HARDWARE SYNTH devices? I have older and newer hard synths by Roland and Korg with very recent SL 88.
    Could someone PLEASE tell me why NO ONE, regardless of software, ever addresses this?
    Thirty years ago, I was using Twelve Tone Systems early Cakewalk and could see all the instruments on my (then new) Korg unit, select which instrument I wanted, edit parameters and everything was visible on the screen.
    Now, everything seems only to work withy SOFTWARE synths & sounds.
    Please tell me I'm missing something and tell me how to manipulate/navigate/maneuver through, say, a Roland Integra-7 or an older Korg 05R/w from the PC.
    Thanks to whomever comes to the rescue!!!

      I cannot comment on other DAW's but what you are wanting is easily done with Cakewalk/Sonar. It's called Instrument Definitions. This is one reason Cakewalk is the most popular DAW for hardware synth people. The same system you used 20 years ago is still working fine. I set up one for both my Sound Canvas and my Korg 05R/W All the banks and instruments are then listed in the track header drop down. Please read the user guide section on Instrument definitions.. It's pretty easy to do. I used to have a tutorial on this but I took it down because it only got a few views and no likes.
