  • Today I am demonstrating the Makiwara Portable Edge Bander and the Edge Trimmer machines, used in cabinetry and furniture making, that are designed to put a finished edge on products like MDF (medium density fiberboard) or on cabinet grade plywoods like Oak, Maple etc. and give them a very professional look similar to what you would find using natural woods.

Thank you so much for showing us these machines in use. You are right it does help us understand and conceptualize what we might be able to do with them and how they might be valuable to us in our daily workflow. Thanks again from Hobbs/Oil Center, New Mexico!

Money maker to say the least. I've been ables to start offering euro style frameless cabinetry thanks to these machines. They are easy to set up, operate, and don't take up too much space. LOVE THEM BOTH!

I'm a woodworker in Brazil, and basically all the furniture here is MDF. Those machines are time and money savers for cabinet making with MDF or plywood. Great review

Wow! I was a fan of the iron-on veneer but this is definitely the way to go for production! I'm a huge fan of oak veneer plywood. This sure beats getting thrown in the doghouse in years-gone-by when I borrowed my wife's iron and got glue on it! Finally got my own iron for the woodshop.

hello, I have a virutex 250 on the table and it works well with a little intense work, which I liked in your machine is the fact that distributed the glue before and separament of the tape, which gives the time to react and avoid wasting the tape, good presentation; good continuation

Very Cool machines. When i was cabinet making, i would have to all that by hand. Then hold the edges with clamps for 24 hours. Pretty Cool machines.

    hi there
great video when i was cabinet making here in ireland a job i had to give up due to severe arthritis in my spine i had the edgebander and trimmer combined which made my job so much easier and faster i needed this type of machine as i was a self employed kitche maker and as you know in ireland we use mdf or chipboard sheets and cut them down to make our cabinets
although even since i gave up the business things are changing and more and more are using pre edged panels and cutting them as required but i know these combi machines are expensive and i can see how the two seperate machines would be less to purchase but add great ease of work for the woodworker

Very nice Colin. I was wondering, do you have to clean the glue off the roller/applicator after you are done using the machine?

  • @afbigfish1

What about clean up of the edge-band machine? do you need to clean the glue roller if you dont use it everyday? Or does it just remelt

Can you please provide a link for the white edgebanding. I can only find edgebanding that is pre-glued, which is not what you are showing in the video. Thanks in advance!

I have this tool. Its nice although I had a little trouble dialing it in for the material I was using. I was using a 3/4 veneered ply with the core being 2 different materials. The middle was actual wood/plywood and right under the veneers on both sides was mdf which did not stick quite as consistent as the middle. I adjusted the temp and flow rate of the glue and it seemed better, but any advice? Thanks

    • @andrewbrenner425

    • @Tenshi_Sora

JJ T the glue drips back into the glue pot so you really don’t need to clean it at all.

    • @knecht105
      @knecht105  5 лет назад +1

As Rodrigo mentioned, It just drips back, so there shouldn't be much need to clean it. Thanks for watching!

At those prices, I can't see an everyday home woodworker buying one - Only production plants could manage a return on an investment that large. Of course that's only MY opinion. In fact I have yet to see a You Tuber who might have a use for them. BUT that said, they are a great product that do what they were designed to do.

    • @knecht105
