Thank you for all the great videos! I'm a singer and do not need chords, just clues (long words, fast words, interlude, etc.). Is there a way to format single words only or do I need to use pdf/doc for that?
Seems like a great app. If I have say 10 songs in one text file, would it be possible for Onsong to import them and recognise them as 10 songs or will I need to create 10 different files to be imported into Onsong? Please advise. Thanks
This is an incredible amount of work when I'm dealing with hundreds of songs that aren't Courier and aren't in text format. I thought it was supposed to be easy; that's why I bought it. Plus I don't type my chords above the line, I use superscripts for chords.
+Dale Allen Pommer The reason for using Courier is so you can see the alignment of chords. This is an issue with word processors where you use far more spaces to align chords above lyrics when using variable-width fonts. It's a lot of work because the format you have the song in was created in a way that looks good visually, but does not match the chord to the lyrics. OnSong allows you to do that, and this is one technique. You can view Word documents in OnSong natively so we recommend just importing your Word files and then you can use the document "as-is". OnSong has conversion tools as well, but you need to be aware of some of the limitations with the way your documents are currently formatted. We also recommend OnSong Console which simplifies conversion by showing you a preview. You could easily copy and paste into the Console and then move the chords as needed. It takes about a minute per song. onsongapp.com/videos/tutorials/console/
@@onsongapp I'm in the same boat, hundreds of songs, maybe 5-600 in all, and sure don't want to convert FONT to Currier and then have to shift thousands of CHORDS around! I just need to display my typed songs in full screen and be able to scroll them - OR go to a table of contents (alphabetized) and PICK the next song. CAN these simple requirements be done?? Please answer here as the On song website has no contact us here button!! Almost made me go to Forescore instead!
@@MikeUpie You can receive support from OnSong from the "Support" link in the header. You can also import Word documents and display them as-is and each file will be listed in your library by filename. However for most of the features in OnSong you will want to convert to text. The reason it's not exactly straightforward is because of the things that people have done in the past to make authored chord charts look good. For instance, they typically have far more spaces to align chords above lyrics. Changing the font to Courier just shows you that the problem exists outside of OnSong so you can understand how to correct the chord positions.
@@onsongapp Thanks for the quick response here. I appreciate that Word can be used as it is, without conversion, then realigning Chords over the correct syllables, a HUGE amount of work - if you have hundreds of songs.
I am a little unclear on the editing process. I convert to note pad and edit everything form there? wouldn't it be easier to do all my editing in word, convert the final version to note pad then upload to onsong?
This is a pretty old video, but yes you could edit in Word and just export as plain text. You don't have to go through notepad, etc. The thing to remember is that when you're editing a chart in Word, you will likely use a "variable width font" and end up using many more spaces to assign chords. When you change to plain text, it can result in the chord being pushed too far to the right. One way to know in Word is to edit your charts in a fixed-width font like Courier. You could also consider using OnSong Console and just copy and paste from Word and do all the editing right on your computer and save directly to your iPad. onsongapp.com/videos/console
Currently OnSong does not have a bulk conversion process since each piece of music needs to be reviewed anyway. OnSong can extract the text of the song, but chord positions often need to be adjusted due to how chord charts are created in a word processing program. There are applications that do bulk conversion available for Windows.
I'm a bit confused and hope you can clarify for me. All editing of songs must be done on my computer and then reloaded to Onsong? What is Onsong doing for me?
You can extract text and edit directly in OnSong, or OnSong Console. However many people wanted to know how to prep their Word documents for import so they don't have to adjust things once in OnSong. The issue is that Word files are normally created in a way that cause chords to become misaligned. This video shows how that is a problem with word processing programs.
I have been able to simply select, copy and paste from word .doc files to my OnSong console with no problems. I am using Office 2010. ... and Windows 10. I don't have many TAB graphics. -- If I did, I'd try to turn them into JPEG files.
how do i import songs from Chordie (dot com) into my onsong ? also a problem that ive encountered several times is whenever i do a system update or ipad crashes i loose all my songs what or is there anything i can do to prevent this thank you
I am thinking of buying OnSong. I just saw it work and a conference I went to. #1 Can I use PDF's? Will it be able to transpose those? #2 It also looks like you are using Word on a PC, are the commands the same using Word on a Mac?
Tracy Bosnian That's great to hear! Yes you can use PDF files, however they are not immediately transposable since PDF files do not contain the musical chord information. However if you are using CCLI SongSelect, you can transpose those PDF files. You can also convert PDF files to text and then transpose but that usually involves some finessing of the text to get it to work. The commands are similar on Word for Mac especially on Office 2016 for Mac.
has this process changed with the addition of the console? Should I import them to console first or edit the word docs and stick them in dropbox as this video shows?

What do I do if the app is not transposing correctly? The song is "Rhythm Of Love" by plain white t's and it's in Ab major. I went through the text doc line by line and made sure it's correct. When I transpose it down to G, it changes everything to the key of D#?!
First, make sure you are using a current version of OnSong. The latest version is 1.986 and you can check this in the Utilities menu (gear icon) --> Settings --> About --> Version. Next, make sure that you have declared the key of the song using the Key: metatag. This must match how the song is written. Don't use the metadata to try to transpose the song as you'll want to use the transpose slider in display preferences menu (sliders icon) to do that. If you don't have a key declared in the metadata of the song, OnSong will use the first chord in the song which may not be the root. Contact support at onsongapp dot com and send the song you are having trouble with and we can provide more direct assistance.
Ok, I sent the song to support at onsong I am up to the current version, and I added Key:Ab to the text doc before importing it. Any help is appreciated. I really like the app and want to learn how to use it properly. thanks
+Willie Kersten Yes, the OnSong Console add-on can run on any computer through a web browser and allows you to edit your OnSong library on a PC or Mac: onsongapp.com/videos/tutorials/console/
This is a good app if you have your songs in plain text format to start with. If you don't and like us have over 100 songs saved as Word and Pages files with various formats and colours for different instruments and vocals, then you have a SERIOUS amount of editing to do. When we change to courier it screws up our chords and lyrics positioning, and moving to plain text puts everything to the same colour. Needs work!
You can use Word or PDF files and view them as-is within OnSong. We can help you learn how to convert your music into the OnSong or ChordPro file formats if you like and use line formatting to highlight text. However, OnSong isn't a word processor and doesn't have all the formatting options. You can contact support at onsongapp.com/support
We are not aware of any issues in the current version regarding use of Word, PDF or Pages files but OnSong does work best with text-based formats. You can learn about each release here: onsongapp.com/release or contact support if you have any questions or concerns: onsongapp.com/support
Just downloaded the app and started importing songs. Seems very easy! I hope one day to be able to connect WorshipReady.com right in the Onsong app! Thanks!

Tracy Bosnian If you're in a house of worship, CCLI is a licensing agent that provides chord charts in PDF format.

has this process changed with the addition of the console? Should I import them to console first or edit the word docs and stick them in dropbox as this video shows?
Console just gives you a different way to manage your library. You can continue to use the method in the video.
onsongapp I guess you can do all this stuff directly in Console as well? Is it faster or equally?
I tried converting from a word doc to a plain text and it messed up my formatting. The chords were misaligned. Any tips for that process specifically?

Can Onsong send sysex data so my synthesizers will change sounds automaticly when i choose a song?
OnSong can send bank select and program change messages when a song is loaded to automatically configure MIDI equipment.
Once songs have been imported from Dropbox do they work offline?
Yes. It is added to your library which is stored on the device.
Your add says "The OnSong Console turns any computer into a full editing suite." Does that really mean any computer?

Spaces.
