    Gradation 120 is a lot for the job. I use exclusively metal polishing paste on a cotton cloth which I pinch to the relay contacts and polish the contacts. After that I clean them with deoxite. After such treatment the relay is like new.

    Thanks a lot friend for helping with this amazing explained video. I enjoy the good sound, vinyls mainly, but I am not an audio-fool neither. Now, I going to make maintenance to my Yamaha AX-700 amplifier that I have never used since I bought it by eBay several years ago and now it sounds with really low volume. Good call straight away saying how there are still noisy controls. When the differences became much less after operating controls mere seconds later, it was cool, anyone would have to say. Nice!

    This is good amp, "small" problem with this amplifiers is small idle current with high sensitivity speakers. I had to on Sony F419R set almost twice idle current than stated in service manual with 90dB/W/1m speakers, now have this amp excellent sound without any hear-able distortion. And of course relay, this is pain on all old amp because silver platted contacts have oxidation.

    Consider KDenLive _(especially if you ever use Linux because hardware support is better such as usage with a ps2-eyetoy webcam which costs about 1dollar at Gamestop)_ and OpenShot.

    Those Omrons of that vintage fail often, I replace on sight. Quality replacement costs like $8. Cleaning can work but in my experience isn’t reliable long term.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 года назад

      They are a lot more than that by the time they get here. 9.00 for relay, 8.00 shipping and then fed ex adds an extra special surprise, 37.50 in broker charges. Been down that road before. I had a customer that I ordered a part from, and was assured by digikey that there were no additional fees and was assured that what I was charged was what it costs. I quoted my customer the price of the part plus shipping. Because these days if you quote too high a price for the part and they can look it up, they slam you as a crook. The part was a 5.00 part with 8.00 shipping. I charged 15 for the part including shipping. 3 weeks later I get a bill from fed ex for 37.50. I only charged 40.00 to install the part, and now I am at a loss. I saw him at a coffee shop a few weeks later and asked him how his tape deck was doing and he said great, and then I told him I got a bill from fed ex for broker charges and his response was, thats too bad, had you told me that the part was 37.50 more I would have told you to keep it. So no, I really don't give a shit these days how long something lasts. It it lasts 6 months and fails again and it come back, I charge again. I really don't care how long it lasts, because I make pretty much nothing doing this. That's the reason I got out of the business in the first place in 2003. I do repairs now more of as a favor, I don't charge allot because people will just scrap stuff if the cost is too high. Ordering in any specialty oarts these days is too expensive for the vast majority.

      I agree that the paper is way too coarse, but it won't remove the plating because the contacts are not silver plated, they are silver *alloy*. I would use something between 800 and 2000 grit, because the deep scratches a 120 grit paper causes on the contacts reduces the contact area.

They are headed right back to the trash can when I am done. The majority are not paid repairs. It is donated equipment shown off as a demo. What does the MM/MC switch actually do electronically and is there a danger to using an MC cartridge with an amp/receiver that doesn't have that switch or circuitry?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 года назад +1

      The MC/mm switch changes the preamp between a moving coil and a moving magnet cartridge. Moving coil is a very low output they requires much more gain than a moving magnet so if you put a moving coil on a photo that is designed for moving magnet you will have very low sound and also because the load is different the frequency response will be way off by contrast if you put a moving magnet cartridge in the moving coil position it will be overloaded loud and very low fidelity but no it won't hurt anything it will just sound like shit

Finally, and this has taken some time they have done the right thing and banned him. He is most upset that I showed the email response from Dave Jones, and has even contacted youtube to get this video removed because his "screen name" which I am not even sure is his real name was shown on my phone. Look for that to be blurred in the next couple of hours as he is attempting to get me taken down now for privacy concerns, yet he has published my name, wifes name and phone numbers, as well as the last address he could find me living at, which is actually where my sister and her family live, and where I have stuff delivered to as I don't tell anyone my real street address. That's OK for him to put my contact info out for everyone to see, but if his name shows on a video or I say his name and call him what he is, a psychopath I am reported and threatened with having my channel taken down.

    OMG...using 120 grit sandpaper for cleaning gold-plated contacts from a signal relais!
    Contact cleaner to clean potentiometers is also not a good idea, it's too agressive and soon these potentiometers will fail again.

    • @mrnmrn1
      @mrnmrn1 3 года назад +1

      This is not a gold plated signal relay, it's on the speaker outputs, it's a high amp relay with silver alloy contacts. But you're right, 120 grit is way too coarse, the deep scratches it makes reduces the contact area. I'd use something between 800 and 2000 grit.

    Another unnecessarily long video to make more add money for him and boor us with his constant knob twisting. Sango66 dose the same thing on his channel.

      I actually cut this down about 10 minutes. There was much more knob twisting to clean these controls than you saw, and switch cleaning that was removed.
