I am glad that things are changing re: declawing. 20+ ago when I got my cat Angel (the only cat I've/my family owned that we got declawed), I'm pretty sure the vet suggested it. What a mistake.

There has been SO much more research into animal welfare over the last 20 years that have really highlighted how damaging a lot of normalized procedures and practices are to our pets. The next step is education!

Woah. I was about to comment about my experience with declawing when I saw your comment. Also 20+years ago when I was a kid and before “a quick google search” was a thing, my mom got our cats declawed. Our vet at the time also suggested it and said it would be no problem. The cats were named Mojave and Angel. 😂 We both regret that and would never support declawing again.

Same here. 30 years ago. 3 cats. No concerns mentioned and no explanation that the procedure involved amputation. I was so upset when I found out about that years later.

Good advice, especially about the declawing - which is mutilation. Thank goodness many vets now refuse to perform this barbaric procedure. If someone is more concerned about their furniture than a living animal, they shouldn't be a pet owner. We have both dogs and cats. The 2 cats are 16 & 17, had them both since kittens. No problems with scratching as we have adequate cat trees and scratching posts in the house. When they were young and would scratch on things, I had a bottle of water and would "mist" them to deter that behavior. Cats are smart and learn quickly. I also started clipping their nails when they were young and they don't mind it a bit. Thanks for bringing up this important topic.

Used to watch neighbor's declawed cat hobble around with her deformed, painful, amputated, declawed feet. It was so sad to watch her...especially as she aged. Reminded me of watching an Asian women with bound feet attempt to walk.

There are studies, recent ones, showing that declawed cats are more likely to bite and to house soil! Also, after the declaw ban in British Columbia, Canada, there are no more relinquished cats like some people say would be a result of such a ban. Declawing is ALWAYS wrong. Thanks for the video.

I have a declawed cat - We didn't do it and she got it done before it became illegal in my state.
She's a sweetheart, but she's very timid. She gets bullied by the other, younger males a lot an often retreats to weird spots in the house to avoid them. She has had a history of not wanting to use a litter box if it was out of her safe-spots or if it was somewhere where the boys liked to be.... so yeah, we've had to clean up after her more times than I'm proud to admit. Her boxes are very low due to her having issues with bigger ones due to the declawing.

True. Shelters are full of declawed cats who end up with all kinds of emotional and behavioral issues. These dumped cats are usually beautiful, and dumped because careless owners really never cared about the cat. And, owners were not prepared for the large variety of serious issues to develop when chop off fingers/toes of a cat. It's so, so sad. Wish vets, and owners, would all just say no and stop this cruelty.

Hey Skylar, Love your videos! Ive been trying to change my 2 year old rag dolls diet. I was previously feeding him Rawz cat kibble and giving him fancy feast can. I was watching your videos over the past few days and want to change his diet because he's been having random diarrhea and vomitting over the past few weeks. I was looking into Instincts new Raw longevity and was wondering what you think about the new product and wether I should switch him to that or another product that you recommend.

    Warm greetings from Greece ❤
I highly appreciate the tons of knowledge you have been sharing with us and we should be grateful to witness people being guided by their moral compass when it comes to honest reviews🎉🎉🎉
It would be life saving for me (and my little one) if you could share some thoughts on Carnilove (their dry cat food chain)
In Greece it’s particularly difficult to escape the highly commercial brands and so far I have tried Wellness Core and Carnilove as grain free and protein rich dry cat foods😊

I'm a professional pet sitter and am hired by my clients at times for their wedding. I bring the doggy just before they are needed for either pictures or ceremony. In between moments, the doggy is needed, and we go for a walk or away from everyone else. Before the reception starts, I take the dog back to their home and visit later if needed. Anything less is cruel for the dog. Way way too overwhelming and not ideal.

A young cat we got from shelter must have had the claw caps. She was always obsessively biting and pulling on her claws like the caps were there and was trying to take them off. We got her young so must have only had caps for maybe a year, but led to this sad behavior. Only cat I've ever had with this obsession, so pretty sure that was her life. If one clips nails, provide toys, and have scratching posts, there's no need for caps.

What freeze dried organs should I add to my puppy’s food? I am currently feeding him the Orijen’s puppy food, so it’s a mix of proteins and organs.

Considering how few people know what to do during a dog fight, even in controlled enviorments like dog kennels I've worked for... I think any wedding that's gonna involve more than one dog whether those dogs have rapport or not is just not wise. So much can go wrong if a dog fight were to start, beyond even the safety of the dogs themselves, but the safety of the first person who decides to haphazardly throw their hand into the mix to stop it. The correct things to deescalate a fight may not even be at hand at a ceremony or reception like that, and having worked in boarding quite a bit I can tell you most owners wouldn't even begin to consider to put those safety measures in place. It's frustrating to see owners personify their animals to the extent of assuming just because the dogs get along at home or at the park are going to tolerate playing dress up or doll for a dog wedding, and that those dogs friendship are some safe guard against the real possibility of the animals lashing out at their owners or each other. Dogs that live together and have great rapport still get into fights in their own backyards- good husbandry and pet ownership strives to prevent this as much as possible but they're not machines and the chance is never zero. What's worse is because of logistics and dogs being dogs I'm imagining these people holding two dogs super close to one another on leashes that are gonna tangle and cut up the dogs and owners during a fight. People place their own cute moment over what would normally be acceptable. If you take it into a different context I'd never personally hold two dogs face to face on leashes in a foreign/High activity enviorment, it's at the very least gonna stress them out, at most put them right in line to bicker.
Your suggestion for how to include dogs in ceremonies is a great one I think, but even then I'd say trying to have multiple live untrained house pets do what is essentially work/performance together at such a high stress enviorment is unwise no matter what. One dog with a trained handler is almost certainly the only sensible and safe option imo.

My dog keeps eating cat poop. Why is she doing this? She eats grain free kibble that I rehydrate. She gets Greek yogurt once a day.

    • @TheTattooedDogTrainer
      @TheTattooedDogTrainer  Год назад +2

Unfortunately, your dog is probably eating your cat's poop because it tastes good to them! As gross as it is, dogs eating other animals' poop is fairly common. I would recommend investing in a covered or elevated litterbox to help prevent your dog from getting to the box and schedule a vet visit if any other behaviors have changed or if you are concerned about any deficiencies.

@@TheTattooedDogTrainer oh no gross🤢. It’s neighborhood cats so there’s no litter box but she will scout it out and eat it every time.
