Ngl the only good boss in 1 and 2 is S1 Dj Octavio cuz it actually has time to show the different mechanics instead of dying immediately when showing their vulnerability for 1 sec. In S3 there's actual difficulty (when you don't fully upgrade gear) and it gives the boss time to actually show its attack patterns rather than just spitting out one attack then dying from exhaustion. I will say that the mechanics on the bosses are cool but it doesn't feel fleshed out enough since those mechanics have insane potential, I hope we revisit old bosses with similar or more difficulty to Deep Cut maybe even ditch the "hit weakness 3 times".

And they wern’t individual upgrades for weapons, bombs and ink tank like 1 and 2 had. In 3 all the upgrades are related to the clothes power ups you get when playing turf wars online which is a very good idea for the level up system in hero mode
@@---DJ--- well neither Callie or Marie had anything to do with the entire expansion at all so Calamari Inkantation not being the music playing whild you’re bombing the human statue makes sence
We already had explanations for them in both S1 and S2 through the Sunken Scrolls, Marina's chat room, and in-game dialogue. They are the Great Octoweapons, created and used by the octarians during the Great Turf War, which almost led to their victory, until they malfunctioned, causing the inklings to win. Each of them are controlled remotely by a severed tentacle from Octavio himself. 3 years before Splatoon 1, Marina worked on improving them, and once the octarians stole the Great Zapfish for the first time, the octoweapons were reactivated.
There’s also some additional lore for them in the art books; for example, Octo Samurai is a closet Callie fan, and Octo Oven used to be a literal oven before it was converted to a weapon after injuring multiple people in a baking accident.
I remember struggling even spending multiple days trying to fight dj octavio in the first game because he was just that hard for me (especially with the charger) and when I finally got the second game I was preparing myself to beat him only to beat him first try no deaths 😅
