    1. Moisturize your hair
    2. Deep conditioning
    3. Leave in conditioning
    4. Keep your hair stretched
    5. Detangle with care
    6. Never detangle dry
    7. Use finger detangle
    8. Protective styles!!!!
    9. Eat well!!! If your lacking vitamins or minerals don’t expect your hair to grow. Drink water, sleep a lot!

I do all of this except number 4 (my hair likes the curly state) and it definitly works. I'm at mid back length, trying to get to waist length. Would have been there already but i cut it several times because it would get damaged or i was frustrated and cut it, 7 years natural now.

    • @simplymonica6888
      @simplymonica6888 3 года назад +37

@@beautystarshiine2542 since January of this year I’ve been keeping my hair in 14 twists. I do not wear weave, and I wash my hair once a week, every Sunday. I never take the twists out all at once, and wash my hair in the twists. I use the Aussie moist shampoo/conditioner. I retwist after washing them by taking one twist down at a time and twisting it back up then move on to the next twist. I do not use combs, I finger detangle. I only use two products. The argon oil scalp conditioner grease, and the green eco style gel for styling. I grease my scalp the day of wash day and one more time throughout the week. I only use the gel for the base of the twists. I treat my twists as if they’re locs, never taking them down all at once, only one by one to retwist. I have not worn my hair out of these twists since probably the ending of last year. Not using a comb, and keeping my hair twisted going on 11 months this month has tremendously helped with hair health, and growth. I also sleep with a satin scarf on and put a bonnet over it to ensure nothing comes off throughout the night. I hope this helps you, or someone with hair health and length retention.

I used to think my setbacks stemmed from using heat, but they really stemmed from waiting too long to wash my hair, and not trimming what needed to be trimmed! Staying away from heat means nothing if you let split ends run unchecked. I now try to wash my hair before 4 weeks, ideally 3 weeks. My mom can go 6 weeks but that’s the danger zone for me where i start to see dryness and breakage. I keep my hair stretched with blow outs and braid outs now and my hair is happier than ever. It’s all about avoiding tangles, making detangling easier, and any time the ends start to look or feel crazy, i chop them! I’ve always had thick hair but it’s another level now with density all the way to my ends which is my fave look

In my country, specially in my culture, curly hair has never been appreciated. Therefore, I grew up straightening my hair all of my life. I straightened my hair nonstop for 17 years. Every time I cut my hair, I would want to take care of it, but using heat would get the best of me. Then, during quarantine, I got really bad anxiety from AP tests and the only thing that would help me relax was to cut my hair myself, so I did. But this time I decided to educate myself on how to take care of my hair and not use heat until my hair was completely healthy. It's been a year since, and it has been great. I do my own trims, oils and hair masks as well as scalp massages have become my best friends and I try to stick to them as much as possible. Now I'm just trying to improve my diet. RUclips has been the greatest guide tbh. Thank you for sharing your hair journey.

My hair is almost at waist length (4a, 4b texture). I've been growing it out for 6 years now, and my starting point was a small afro that didn't touch my shoulders. I've been having a little setback with heat damage for a year now, but I'm slowly cutting it out. For the most part my hair is very healthy.
My biggest tip to add is: when you're not happy with the length yet, don't obsess over it. And don't put yourself in a position where you can obsess over it. Focus on other things.
I remember when I used to watch hair journeys everyday before bed, obsessing over my hair. Looking in the mirror literally several times a day to check the length, and then not being happy with the way it looked. And as a result being too impatient to love and care for my hair.
The second I started wearing wigs (without leave out), I couldn't obsess over it anymore, because my hair was tucked away. After two years my hair grew longer than it had ever been (I would say bra strap length, stretched). And that's when I could really love my hair again and started to take good care of it.
So if you are not able to really love on your hair the way it is right now, that's okay. Just tuck it away and focus on other things. It will grow and your connection to your hair will definitely change. Which will also change how well you want to take care of it.

Didn't have anyone to do my natural hair for a long time and split ends grew up the shaft and split more making my hair very fragile and even more thin. I've been getting trims every 4 months and leaving my hair in mostly cornrows, keeping it moisturized, protein treatments and my scalp moisturized and giving it a good cleanse especially after taking braids down and that seems to be helping. Slowly seeing it move past my shoulders, which Is the length it has been stuck at for the past 7 years maybe.

How do you know that genetics plays a part in how much hair one can grow?? It seems like a smart thing to say but it really makes no sense. There's no: only grow this long gene.lol. The texture is genetic, the length, how would one even know such a gene exists. If anything, the texture is also controlled by environmental factors as all of my babies and I have seen many black babies born with straight hair, did their genetics change? No. Their environment changed and that changed the condition of your hair. What you eat and what you put on your hair and how you treat it determines this.

My biggest set back was wearing wigs while not really taking care of my hair underneath. Once my hair plateaued I never got trims so never retained length. Now I see a professional hair care person wearing protective styles after big chop in March and I’ve experience so much growth I’m shocked. I realize I need to get my hair done. Doing it myself wasn’t it. So I’m dedicated to my beautician. She trims very small most times and I’m retaining length since feb I have at least 4inc growth. No cap.
I’ll be protective styling in btwn wearing big feed in braids in cornrows specifically for the next 2-3 years. If any one in Brooklyn I recommend Ruthie of Brooklyn crown. Thank you for this video ! Perfect timing and it gives me hope through my many hair set backs. But one thing the set backs taught me is that my hair grows pretty quickly! Another thing I learned is that our hair needs discipline and consistency. If you start slacking with your hair, it will show and your hair won’t wait for you. It will reap the fruits of neglect and you’ll have to keep dealing with it and start again. That’s the hardest thing to achieve, but it’s possible if you mind your business, stay focused and do what makes you happy too.

That’s very accurate actually. It took me about 4-5yrs to officially reach waist length hair.
However my hair was a half relaxed half natural, because I was growing it out instead of doing a big chop.
So eventually when I cut it, my natural hair was above shoulder length and I had bangs (I cut it myself pretty badly)

loving the video, i definitely had a big set back with my crown, its broke off and i was freaking out that i had to cut ALL my hair off and my hair at the time was mid back length, but i thought why not restart a crown hair journey then so I've been grown it out for 3to4 years and its pass my collarbone getting close to armpit length. I've learn that i have to moisturize my hair more often than i was doing at the time.

As another naturalista that's been on this journey for 10 plus year, I've had some pretty big set backs 😩😩. I got my last relaxer in 2010, back when we didn't have all these natural hair care products and awesome RUclipsrs, such as yourself, to show us trials, errors and successes. Needless to say, I looked a HOT TOT MESS for years!!!! BUT by the grace of God, and an amazing natural hair care stylist, I finally started seeing real growth!! My hair that had broken off around chin length (I never big chopped either), made it a bit longer than bra strap length, full and healthy, in 2015. Then the worst thing ever happened!! I went for what I thought was going to a routine trim and left with bob length hair, barely past the nape of my neck! I just cried and cried. I wanted to fight the hair stylist 😩, but I paid her and left devestated. My friends called it, a hater trim 😂😂. 2019 I grew my hair back out to the middle of my back and was sooooo proud!! In celebration, I decided to get my hair straightened, which I only do once a year. My usual stylist was out of town, so I went to a Dominican shop recommended by a friend. I walked out with my hair so fried, it wouldn't even stay straight. Just frizzy and gross and crispy. Welp, started all over after cutting my heat damaged hair to shoulder length. Fast forward to today, I just took out some faux locs I'd had in a while (refreshed twice), and am only 4 inches from waist length!! Patience y'all! It takes patience, because we all make mistakes before we figure out how to handle our hair properly!! Don't give up if full long gorgeous natural hair is your goal! You can do it!!

Let’s not get confused, my heat trained hair is “damaged” hair, but it doesn’t shed much or break. It works for me. Actually they are right, protective styles don't grow your hair. As a matter of fact your hair is always growing it's just a matter of retaining that grown hair and that's what protective styles do, they help you to have less breakage and thus retain your hair length. So, technically they are not wrong.

@@QueeshaMaree It's not anyone's opinion, it's a known fact that wether you do protective style or not your hair grows from your scalp everyday like any other part of your body for example your pubic hair grows even if you don't do protective style which means a hair grows from your skin wether you do or don't do protective styles and your scalp is one part of your skin which is suitable for hair growth. So, the protective style is used to retain the hair that has grown from the scalp as long as it can. Also logically thinking, hair grows from the inside of your scalp and you do protective styles on your scalp and I hope you see the difference as long as what you are doing to your hair consists of the outside (on) your scalp it is mostly for retention not growth. And I think, knowing this simple fact helps everyone not to stress about hair growth but retention as most people are not seeing growth not because their hair is not growing from their scalp but because they don't know the difference between retention and growth.

My hair wouldn’t cooperate with me so much so that I thought I was 4c (manageability-wise) especially because my hair is dense. After incorporating water more in my regimen I’ve noticed a huge change in my curls (sometimes your hair isn’t 4c it just needs moisture!)

I have been on my natural hair journey for 7 years and I’m 5 years fully natural. It took 5 years to reach waist length and in that time period I had setbacks and trimmed more then needed. If i didn’t trim so much which was really not needed I would have longer hair now. My mom wanted hair stylist to trim more because it was “uneven” but it was just shrinkage and my curls that were cut looked so beautiful. About a week ago I cut 5cm because my hair really needed it and had a little bit of heat damage, single strand knots and my hair wasn’t retaining much moisture but my hair looks better now. I was so focused on long hair in my hair journey but now i just want thicker hair and moisturized ends. The things I did to my hair to achieve long hair made my hair healthy but I was a little to fixed on length and now that I’ve reached my goal I don’t care anymore about length. I like more volume now and I just want my hair to be at its healthiest.

I think it depends on where you started at, rate of growth and curl pattern.
Not that I think, tighter patterns can't retain length just that they're more prone to breakage and need extra TLC.
My 4b hair is fine, medium density and wants to break at armpit length. Give or take a minor setback, under optimal care and growth (1/2 Inch month for me), it would take me 3-5 years realistically. This long because some breakage is inevitable or else all our hair would grow to our ankles. 💕

    2. Keep ur hair away in braids or smilar and do not manipulate it much. But do enjoy it free!
    3. Check your diet!

Thank you for this information, as I have been on this journey for about 5-6 years. I have seen a lot of growth and thickness at times, but, for whatever reason when it begins to grow longer down my back. It starts to think out on the ends. I have trimmed my ends, and it may grow more, but it's always thin.
I know I have multiple types on my hair, as my hair is very curly at the base of my hair shaft, super straight on top, tight curly, and very dry around the edges and knap of my neck. I noticed when I would use the hair oils, I saw growth and it seemed as if the texture was changing around the edges, but the top part of my hair stayed straight. No matter what curly cream or leave-in conditioner I use, it still stays straight. I am exhausted using various hair care products, I'm frustrated, as I recently did just what you said don't do regarding detangling without allowing it to be wet with detangling cream or oils. I broke it off extremely bad, and now I'm left with almost all my growth damaged or gone. It looks really bad and very sad.
So, I am going on this train one more time after viewing several of your videos, as your hair is extremely beautiful and very healthy. I am trying not to get tired, as I never could wear perms. I wash my hair, keep it moisturized, but I don't wash it weekly and only deep conditioner it once a month. I am going to try your five points, so any suggestions would be nice.
Thank you again, I appreciate you and your advice!
Take care of that beautiful baby and your family. Much continued success on your journey and your businesses.
Stay safe and healthy out there!

Blowing out Is fine as it stretches the hair just use leave in conditioner after oils and after blowout. I tell people to use a diffuser as it blows both warm and cold air at the same time then set it to regular blow dry mode your next use if you want. Most diffusers come with just simultaneous warm+cool mode only; I tell people with natural hair to adopt a diffuser as regular blow-dryers also tend to dry our hair out depending on handling and diffusers also have a less harm air flow but still blow out pretty affectively due to design. Diffusers were designed for curls anyway.

My "setback" is continuous. My hair grows to juuuuuuuuust WL and it's time for a trim. Back to MBL again! It's a constant cycle. I want to get to TBL.

@@f.u.noseyassstalker7147 not always. I love my wash and go but I also love to braid it up twist it up and leave it alone. I have added protein treatments and that has been helping me retain length.

What I learned is spending time with my hair giving it love and attention is the trick and if I dont have time to wash I spray my scalp with aloe juice message it a little then end of with sealing the moisture with a little DIY oil or butter.,
