- First, I want to say thank you to everyone for the love I got on my crochet durags! Everyone asked for a tutorial so here's a quick and easy tutorial on how to crochet a simple durag! This pattern can be adjusted to be any length and be easily customized. This is a perfect beginner's first project because it utilizes the most basic stitches and concepts as well!
I used one skein of size 4 (medium) yellow "I Love This Yarn!" acrylic yarn from Hobby Lobby, but many different yarn types are suitable for this pattern!
I also used a 8 mm hook, 6 mm hook, yarn needle, and scissors.
Please like, share, and subscribe! Be sure to tag me in y'all's recreations! I would love to see them! If you have ANY comments at all please do not be afraid to ask! Thank you for watching. 🖤

Here is the troubleshoot video!
In the video I show in more detail (& slower) how to put the durag together. I also include how I weave in all the ends.
It also has the durag measurements, chain count for the different durag lengths, & some more answers to a lot of the questions y’all had.
Be sure to read the description to get the different timestamps.
Hope this helps! 🥰🖤
Do you have a written pattern?
Great tutorial and super cute durag! If you increase by 1 on your even rows (row 2, row 4, etc) it’ll create a curve & you’ll be able to avoid having to sew down the flaps in the end.
So like ex row 2 do 2 dc instead of 1 in each stitch?
I think what she meant is at the start of rows 2 and 4, Chain 4 and dc in the very first stitch. That way you'll have 2 dc in the first stitch and then you continue doin mesh stitches for the remaining of the row. Row 3 will be a regular mesh stitch row with no increase. And then row 4 will be an increase row. Rows 5-10 will be regular mesh stitch rows. If you do this you won't flat to sew the flaps in the end
That's how I did mine and it turned out fine.
Do you mean even rows of just the mesh stitch? Are you not counting the half double row when you say even rows? @suhreenuhhhh
So do you just increase rows 2
So do we just increase 2 and 4 and work all the rest in mesh stitch.I have got grand daughters waiting for these durags thank you for the help
Thank you so much for this pattern. I also have a business and I started it two years ago. And by the grace of God, I am doing my first fashion show coming up on the ninth and I just wanted to add some final touches. Your durag is a perfect addition to my line. I am doing half-and-half colors with a charm in the middle right where the colors meet. I hope it turns out good. I’ll tag you on my Facebook. 😍
Congratulations that’s a big accomplishment
So gorgeous! Loving the rustic orange for this!❤️❤️
Currently on bed rest for 3 weeks, thank you for this tutorial. I was dying of boredom. Will start today.
I’m making a split colored durag for my sis birthday 🥰
Can’t wait to finish it tysm ❤
Just finished!!! This came out so beautifully!! Imma make like 10 more lmfao thank you!!!
This is easy to do, but the strap part became confusing and I had to figure it out for myself. It looked like you went in the back of the chain, but you didn't say. First time I went in the back, my strap came out mangled. The second time, I rewatched and looked at the alignment of everything and realized to get that effect, I'd have to go in the right side of the chain. Laying it out flat and comparing it to what was on screen helped tremendously. It's probably easy for some verteran crocheters, but I haven't crocheted in years. My daughter, a new crocheter is having the same confusion. Thank goodness I was able to help her out.
Omg u are a life saver u helped me tremendously Thank you
Omg your comment helped me so much, I was stuckkk on that part!😩😩 Thanks!
That was beautifully done.
Thank you sis we love you for this one!

Thank you so much for helping us make the durag I have 2happy girls .
TYSM easy tutorial to follow❤
Thank you!! 🥰🖤
hey ! i want to ask how many chains do we do when we want to do a small one or medium?
Thank you for the video. My granddaughter saw you TikTok and said she wants me to make her one. You are very talented
Thank you so much! 🥰🖤
Great tutorial. How do you get the triangle top to lay flat/stay together?
❤thanks for sharing ❤️
Of course! 🥰🖤
Brilliant pattern!!
Thank you 🥰
thank you 💓💓
Those pins are called stitch markers. You are doing an excellent job. I am making several of them.
Found pattern easy to follow.I had to go up a couple sizes on needle but never got the whole that big.😮
Thank you Sis! Do you do the mesh hat also know as the rasta hat? This is my next project 🇬🇾
I love this!!!! Can't wait to try this out. Thanks for the tutorial!
Of course! Thank you for the support! 🥰
Super cute and easy, btw the pin thingys are called stitch markers😊
Hi ,like your tutorial
Thank you! 🖤
Beginner crocheted here! Easy pattern to follow but I did end up making my too short I think. I only have 35 mesh holes before doing the tie part of the Durag. Do you think I miscounted during the chain 80? Idk where I went wrong lol. It’s still coming along nicely though
I figured it out. Lol😊 I just finished I will be making more.
I didn't get the part about 16 double crochet, is it on top on the double crochet, or the space in between, before you start the 80 chains.
thank you so much! quick question, if you want to make a shorter one (at the beginning you said you have 3 sizes), how many would you chain?
how do you film your overhead shot? whats your set up
thank you for the video i’ve been looking for a durag tutorial for the longest ! also where did you purchase your pins from?
Hobby lobby! & thank you for watching! 🖤
I’ve had to start over several times when I comes to the strap part. Idk what I’m doing wrong but I turn my work etc and skip a stitch like you stated in the video but once I get to the end of the strap it’s backwards and doesn’t lap over like I should 🤦🏽♀️
What’s the measurement height wise? I used a smaller hook
Love this video. I did something wrong cause mine is a lil funny looking but I’m gonna try it again 😂 I bought a sample pack of yarn so it’s taking multiple colors which might have something to do with it 😩
I wanna do this, but I’m thinking about trying it with satin cord 🤔 (I’ve have locs and don’t want the fuzzies to imbed into my hair) idk how it’ll work out but I’m willing to try it!
Does it have to be a size 8 hook
If 80 is the longest one, how long are the other two sizes you do?
Question what about the part you folded down. What do we do with that?
loveee dat i found dis & don’t care how late i may beeee ! 😂 love dis tut ive watched soooo many times to take my notes 😂 .. i gotta question doe .. whats your number/stitch count ? or would your other sized be paid patterns ?🥸 bc i wanna purchaseee !
Thank you so much! I’m making this for my best friend’s birthday love the pattern❤️❤️
Thank you! I hope they love it! 🥰
Hey hey!! I’m following the video and on my second role my pattern is starting to curve for some reason like a U, so you know what could be causing that?
Cute
What hook size do you use?
Thanks for this tutorial! Just wondering if anyone has made this with just starting the mesh pattern from starting chain like on the strap. My sister wants one but doesn’t like the middle part. Just wondering before I attempt it.
I’ve done it. It works! Actually my final design didn’t have the seam bc I too didn’t like the seam but I left it because everyone else liked it lol
Ok so on the second row and the continuing rows of the mesh, we’re not actually going in the big open hole, but the stitch that’s on top? I think that’s where i keep messing up at
Yes! Don’t go in the big hole. Go in the stitch hole (it’s the hole that’s on top of the previous double crochet from the last row).
@@AntisocialClub1 okaaaaay I’ve started over 10x and finally decided to just ask lol thank you so much!! 🤎
Omg no lol definitely don’t be afraid to ask! I don’t mind answering any questions! You’re welcome 🖤
@@AntisocialClub1I'm using a smaller weight yarn and 10rows look too short.can I get the measurement for the mesh row so I can know how many rows I'll do
How do people learn how to make their own patterns? Do you like just play around and you make something or is that not how that works? by the way, thank you thank you for this video I can’t wait to do this
Pretty much lol. You just think of something you want to make and just dissect how it’s made and make it. LOTS of brainstorming and math. I started off sewing so that helped me a lot too. Only hard part it trying to make it so other people understand it. & ofc!! 🥰🖤
My bestie just sent your pictures to me so I'll be making one this weekend
Same😹❕🫡🥰
🥹 ah so exciting!!!!! Hopefully you love the outcome!!
😭 hopefully you like the tutorial and the outcome of your durag!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
Hello, thank you so much for this 🖤 As I want to make this a gift, I just wanted to know what kind of yarn would be fine for afro hair (I mean, not damage it) ? Can I use regular acrylic yarn or should I go for some ribbon ?
Again, thanks a lot ^^
i would use anything soft or natural, like cotton? imo at least
i’m using smaller yarn and 10 rows feels like a little too short can i ask what measurements is the durag so that i can use that instead of going by rows
Hi what did you end up doing im currently in that dilemma
Very nice ❤❤
Thank you! 🖤
Omg I just came from a tik tok live. A women was wearing one because she followed your tutorial and she sent me here.
Ah soo exciting! I love that omg!! 🥹🖤
How much do we chain for the shorter ones???
How did the person in the thumb nail style that bun using this du'y rag?
I’m doing something wrong with my straps. I don’t understand what you mean by turn it around.
I am in the middle of doing this. I'm on my 10th row on my second half and ran out of yarn. Did I do something wrong?
I love your tutorial it was very easy to follow, but did you forget to add the part on how to sew down that triangle section or am I slow and your just supposed to leave it alone 😂 either way your tutorial got the job done I love it!
I might have sorry lol but I don’t sew down the triangles, just weave in the strings just like the other loose strings on the durag. & thank you! I’m glad you love it & it was easy to follow!! 🥰🖤
I need this desperately 🫠my dreads are annoyingly long now and I get too hot to keep wearing a bonnet all the time plus with summer coming I needed to find a breathable wrap! This will be perfect! Great tutorial! Thank you❤
I love the pattern just finished a light grey metallic one but I don’t see where you sewed down the 2 parts we folded back in the beginning mine is open after I take off the stitch marker 15:32
I like it a lot you do a good job me Tina ❤
Thank you! 🖤
I seen on facebook!! I want to make this asap if I can
🥰🖤
around the 9:20 mark im kinda confused, what part were you connecting? the strap to the main panel?
yes!
How do you connect it back
Yes she did
How many foundation chains for a medium length?
Right. My long feels too long with no braids or anything.
so if i chain 70 for a shorter one how many dc I do before the strap?
Strap always stays the same!
@@AntisocialClub1 thank you
Those pins are stitch markers.
So I got to the part of finishing 10 rows but it doesn’t seem big enough to cover an adult head… am I able to add more rows ? Or would it mess up the project?
Like it’s small😭😭😭
same i just finished mine but it does not look as big as hers. maybe its the yarn type ???
Yep it’s the yarn type ! I learned the hard way too lol ended up making it a bucket hat
let’s say you didn’t have a needle, could you continue sewing the seam together with single crochets all the way down? or do you think the needle is better?
Yes! I do that in my updated version in the “durag troubleshoot” video! End result is the same! 🖤
Can I jus use a 6mm hook and get the same results?
what yarn is the burnt orange one you made? i love it
Hobby Lobby brand in the color Burnt Pumpkin!
Hi! Okay question, when I’m working on the strap…I work all the way down the 16 spaces and then….? I got confused bc it looked like you started crotchet into the chunk with the 10 rows? Hope my question is clear 😂
lol yes it kinda does. You do the 16 spaces, then chain 60, turn your work, and the do the mesh stitch all the way down the chain back to the base of the durag. Hope that’s make sense!
Is it chain 60 or 80 I’m confused? You said 80 on the video
80 sorry
This is so cute just in time for Spring and Summer. I'm going to follow you on IG on my craft page.
I got stuck on the strap part 🤦🏾♀️ I wish you could of showed more of that part. ❤
That's where I'm stuck. Can't see how she connected back
@@kimtaylor5383 lol I ended up fixing it. I just took it apart and started over and took my time, rewatched the video and some how got it right. I hope you end up fixing yours as well🙂
@@kimtaylor5383you crochet back up the strap towards the top of the project. Once you get to where the strap and previous rows meet, keep going like you normally would. Ch 1 and put a dc in the next open mesh space. I hope this help😁
They’re called stitch markers - THIS TUTORIAL IS GREAT
Thank you! 🥰
Please how many grams did you use
how many grams of yarn is needed
Do you block it afterwards?
No but you can! I know a lot of people told me they have. I iron mine by putting a shirt on top so it doesn’t burn the yarn. I didn’t include it in the video because I don’t wanna be responsible for any mess ups and house fires 💀
i need help😭😭. my straps seems to be “attached” to the 64 chains instead of the 16
Did you chain 80 after your 16? If not, that's what you needed to do
Boa tarde!

I did mines in salmon 🍣 🙊💘 and omgggg
Salmon sounds so cute omg 🤭🖤
@@AntisocialClub1 can you do like shell stitch next 🙊 what’s your favorite stitch ?
how can i not have a pointy top
Can a 6.5 mm hook work as I don't have 8?
Yes! It will come out to be smaller though!
@@AntisocialClub1 I did it and tagged u in my video on tik tok, but I bought a 8 mm so I'll do it again
