How to Remove Clear Bra: $12M Ferrari 250 GT LWB

- How to Remove a Clear Bra on a $12M 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB is pretty much the same as any other car, but the consequences are slightly higher :) Heating up the glue with water, heat gun, or steamer is acceptable practice. For this removal, I simply used a heat gun. The goal is to heat-up the glue and gently peel the bra off of the existing paint. This is a slow and steady process. I will be editing a detailing video on this special paint very soon as well. Thx for watching! -L

Bra removing is actually the most important skill known to men.
Damn straight! haha
#BanTheBraBru
But can you do it with one hand?
eyyyyyyyy
Yep very quickly!
Larry if I ever become wealthy and have some nice vehicles I will hire you to personally take care of them. I've never seen someone so dedicated and passionate with their craft. In the mean time, thanks for the tips so I can take care of my own car! You rock dude!
props to the owner, using that Ferrari.
True. So many of these cars just sit in a showroom. Then again I don't know if I'd drive a car of that value and rarity either.
Reasure lmao,he maybe drove it 2 times lol
Larry could you please do a review about cordless polishers? I'm not sure about their battery capacity, RPMs and stuff.
Would help me a lot!
Excellent video as always.
having been an installer of all the clear bra/paint protection films on exotic cars, one thing i found was that by pulling the film away at a VERY shallow angle to itself, leaves NO glue behind, NO heat required. the idea is to actually not lift the film more than about 5mm above the surface, by lifting the film one thing you run the risk of is lifting the paint layers, and if it wasnt a professional paint job (outgassed/hardened etc) that you could pull up paint
That Pagani. Great video !
Spencer what's up!
that car is just breathtaking.
just subscribed to your channel like your vids
Thx!
this is the same owner as the 1 Million dollar Ferrari with the garage that just needs a bathroom so you would sleep on the floor?....good to see you again Larry, was starting to wonder what happened to you.
sure looks like it. haven't seen another garage that looks anything close to this one
This is a really great video! I know you were talking about how it can pull up the paint. I have a crazy bad clear bra problem. Its shriveled up and cracked. I know this can happen, especially on older motorhomes. I will more then likely take this to someone to be removed, but if by chance you ever run into this I'd love to see a video on the removal!
Anybody else find these videos so relaxing?? I love them!!
I listen/watch these while I do homework lol
everyone has a price but the tricky thing is how to get his wife to agree to it
ya
Thanks Aron means a lot!
+AMMO NYC no thank you Sir! Everyone I know thinks I'm mad looking at some guy cleaning a car, but it's so much more than that!! It's obvious you love what you do and it really comes across!! You've taught me a lot about detailing and I look forward to getting my own car to put in into practice!!
so a no go on using a grinder and wire wheel?
+Anas Malas well atleast I treated the area with salted water after I removed the bra, you know salts a preservative, ill check it in a few months when I have time, until then the oak tree will protect my car
lmfao
I'm not sure about a wire wheel, I'd go straight to the cutting disks. You know the ones for cutting bike chains and things of that nature.
+Sam Spina maybe a oxy-acetlene torch would be best
It is sad how much I look forward to these videos considering I don't have a clear bra and am not a professional detailer. I just like cleaning the A4 man! Recently clayed and protected it because of your videos so thank you!
i could watch this guy for hours, awesome guy great videos
The nice thing about it is that you could actually understand what he's saying. Thank you
Always love your videos Larry. You can tell you really live your craft. Keep it up man!
THAT PAINT IS IMMACULATE
No idea if you read this. But you inspired me to spend time and take good care of my car paint watching your vids. Thanks :)
I try to read as often as I can. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Awesome! Can you please do a video on drive thru touch less car washes and the ones that touch. Pros and cons. Thanks!
Does working on a $12M car make you nervous?
Not really. Get used to it. Can't think about it too much or u freeze up
AMMO NYC Good way to look at it I guess. I'm too scared to even touch my friends cars.
What are your friend's cars?
+gmansplit Nothing that special. The nicest is probably a 99 HSV Clubsport
Jue_boy So why are you scared to touch them, if they aren't that great?
Watching this gave me the confidence to remove stone guards off of my Porsche 911. Thanks!
Hey Larry, is using the steam cleaner a little safer vs heat gun?
Great video Larry, that garage is unreal.
Thank you so much for doing this video! Perfect timing for me as any and all car wrap shops want to charge me at least $400 minimum to remove my clear bra. I'm going to do it myself even though I know it's a tedious job. After which I'll need a color correct at least 2 stage detail. Then I need to redo the bra for $1800!!! Expensive investments for sure.
sure are but better than spending several thousand for a repaint
if i may know, what is your car mr ? :D
+as wqd Porsche 997.1 Cab
did you change the camera? the quality and speed of the video is much higher quality that in the past. love it!
Great video Larry. Can we expect any more updates on your Porsche? Those are always so informative as well as the cleaning and maintenance series of vids.
You need to post more often! Always look forward to your videos. Thank you for being awesome Larry.
Thanks for this video, excellent as always Larry!
Also on a side note, this was a very satisfying video to watch haha
Your video's are absolutely first class, you make a great presenter.
Thanks for the kind words. Thanks for watching!
That is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. Amazing.
Dude where have you been? Need more videos :)
Great stuff. For how long I can keep the clear bra on my car?
Wow, what a neat opportunity. It seemed like you had to pull on it quite a bit. Was there a risk of flakes especially it being single stage?
Great job as always Larry
Where have you been?????? Miss seeing your work and DIY.
I've personally seen many "cheaper" paint protection films still turn yellow! make sure to always ask for the brand of paint protection being used! and never EVER cheap out on ppf films! (I've only been installing paint protection films for 8 years but I've seen many fail after a year, even recently)
I think that's the first time I noticed you wearing a ring while doing any kind of detailing or because you always have on gloves lol
Yeah. Never take my wedding ring off. If I wore gloves I wouldn't be able to pick at the bra
If i was working bare handed on a $12M car, Iiii'd take my wedding ring off... the thought of the ring dinging the paint, especially warm paint would make me quiver!
There is such a thing as being too careful you know. At the end of the day the job has to get done. You can't spend all your time worrying about what could go wrong. If you did that you would never get anything done.
Well said my friend. Well said. Been doing this a few years. Doesnt mean mistakes cant happen. But gotta get the job done. Plus I was polishing it 5 mins after I removed it
Kfeems you are fucking everywhere smh
Love the new intro, btw what camera are you using? thanks, always looking forward to your new videos
Love your videos. I had a question with clear bras, are you able to do everything you can do with the paint ie. clay, compound, polish, wax? Also, I know it is always advised to get the best products when detailing but I want to get a polisher but 300 for a rupes is a lot, i know it is completely worth it but if I get a 60 or 80 dollar one that looks just like the rupes is that something i shouldn't do? I would love to see you do a review of different polishers.
Easy does it! Im assuming you need some sort of detailing business insurance in the event that you accidentally damage a car in any way, right?
just commenting, i recently had to do this on our 2016 civic is no million dollar car but here is the funny story... took us about 2 hours to install the whole thing. we took it to GA from NM and back, i wanted it to take it off because its going to get wrapped soon so i let the car sit outside in the sun temp for the day was 101 degrees, i just peeled it off, it was so easy! lol thats the only thing this dry heat weather is good for
I had never heard of clear bras learning yellow until I saw a bunch of people commenting on someone's Z06 clear bra installation video. I know you love detailing and all this stuff, but how frustrating is it to pull the bra off knowing you're just going to put it right back on?
great job. which is the best brand clear bra ?? thx
Hy larry...great video...A question has been brought up in my mind during the video...At what point or after how many years do you recommend removing clear bra?
thats something ive wondered about myself
now kiss
Great video, but why were you pulling the wrong way? If you pull it backwards, like removing a 3M Command strip, it will come right off, with a lot less, or no heat. It's how 3M and Xpel both recommend you remove their films.
A PlastiDip bra is a superior protective process than a clear bra. Easy on, easy off with no paint damage or residue issues.
hello bro .. HELP PLEASE !!
most supercars in the world they using Xpel Ultimate Films
and they saing the 3m is bad and yellowing !!
but WHAT about the new 3M Scotchgard PRO SERIES ??
wich one do you think is better Xpel Ultimate or 3M pro series ??
i found those 2 in same price .. but wich one is better, strongest, most powerfull, the KING KONG ??
So with Eastman product or CCL. I prefer suntek by Eastman or nanofusion by ccl
Ahhh I love that you pronounced 'Huayra' correctly :D
Hi Larry , what's your tricks to clean dust under the edge.of the bra it's look pretty hard to remove without peel off the edge of the bra. thanks a lot for your tricks. it can help someone too!
Another awesome video Larry
Lovin' the beard Larry
Great video. An audio clip of the TDF would have been fantastic though ;)
good idea
Not to take anything away from the 250GT, but is that Gemini Uno in the background?
How much would it cost to get a full "spa day" for a normal car? Do special cars like this one cost more?
If you're wanting to protect a newly restored car that you want to drive a lot, is it worth covering the whole car or would it be more wise to cover key areas? I've been thinking about doing the whole thing and getting really particular around the seams and edges (sort of like what Rob Dahm did with his Diablo before the hit and run). I can't stand the look of visible Clear Bra edges. This video also makes me wonder about replacement intervals on something like Clear Bra so it doesn't "fuse" to the paint like you mentioned. Should I cover the whole car when I get it back from paint and just count on replacing it every X number of years?
At 7:32 are you leaning against the yellow car with zip up hoodie on, that zip would do wonders on the paint?
If I had a car like that, I'd do full body paint protection film, not just the front
thats what we did for the re-application
Sup man! Quick question, so i tried to clean my titanium exhaust because it's full of grease and then i grabbed the mild acid that i used to clean rims instead of degreaser. Now i got stain in my exhaust that makes it look dirty and blurry. So my question is, how do you make it clean and make the stains gone?
that damn goo gone safety child... hes a bummer hahahaha. awesome work btw
Great video Larry keep it up.
Larry is like the LinusTechTips for car tips
Best to wash before peeling or don't worry about it?
Do you carry additional insurance when working on cars like this? I had to get a $2 million policy to cover some chandeliers a bunch of years ago. I'd imagine it's a similar situation.
I know this is an older posting. But what do you use to get rid of the dirty edge once you've removed the Clear bra? I tried Goo Gone, Acetone, and alcohol and nothing got rid of ALL of it. Do just buff with a polishing compound or is there another chemical to try?
Would a clear bra on the bellypan of my motorbike be durable enough to withstand the front wheel pounding it with stonechips? Would it go opaque from excessive stone chipping?
I'm about to get the bellypan repainted because stonechips almost completely stripped the paint off it already and I need to find a way of protecting the new paint after it goes on.
Larry: They know him for his one dabs.
Great Video.
what an interesting use for pallet wrap///
Great job mate.
Taking the bra off a TDF means it's probably DTF
lmao
I have clear bra on on my car. It’s been on for about two years. I’m considering having it removed because of bug stains. Do you think it’ll be safe to remove? I just worry about the paint peeling off. The brand is 3M.
Removing needs Professional Tools, uses Hotgun without selectable Temperature :D My Hotgun has a LCD where i can select in 10°C steps the Temperature.
What does a full detail on a piece of art like this usually run someone?
I have a Dura Shield on my RV...any advice to pull off.
what do you recommend to do on a breand new car with a few rock chips? its a 2016 opel insignia in a a pearl dark green colour.
make a video on rubber trim plastic etc.
Check out my series AutoBlog Details. I have a playlist with all the videos or head over to Autoblog.com/Details to find videos on plastic trim and rubber. Thanks!
must be a pro to be trusted with a $12m car
what camera is that your using, nice picture in hd /60
Hello! Larry ,I saw you used the nano at 0:42 , did you do any video about the nano ?
hes mixed them in here and there but i dont think he has a video on just the nano. theres a vid he did with kevin brown on a ferrari f40 and talked about all sorts of different polishers and in that video or a different one talked about what kind of tool to use for certain areas and why
Great job!
P.S. It's actually pronounced as "Skal-yetti" not "scag-leyetta".
is this different from a vinyl wrap? can you use a vinyl clear wrap as a bra if there is a clear one?
A clear coat of plastidip is also an alternative!
I'd be too nervous to even breathe near that thing in case I somehow damage it lol
I have no idea of the chances of you being able to respond. I just spent 2 hours removing a 3M clear bra from the roof of my car (I put it on because my neighbor's cat was not very nice to my last car and I had just gotten the roof repainted before putting on the clear bra). Anyway, it has been on there for about 2 years. I wash my car fairly regularly, but over the years, it had collected tar that riddled basically the whole roof. Some of those tar spots have left odd dark stains on my paint after removing the clear bra... do you have an idea of what it is or how I could even get this out?
Yo Ammo, can you use the heat gun on plastic/fiberglass body panels?
Yes but need to be extra careful as the heat does not disperse like it does on metal
@@AMMO-NYC great, thanks!
Help!!! How bad is it to remove clear bra off a 2002 Ferrari 360? The film was with the car since then an now all the clear bra are cracked everywhere and I’m afraid it going to be an insane task to have it removed. I’m worried it will pull the paint. The paint on the car is original paint, never been painted. Please Help.!!
Is it the original paint job? If not then I don't see why go through tremendous steps to protect it.
Restorations done right on cars like this are not cheap. For someone who can afford a car like this, a few $$ spent on clear bra to protect it from rock chips and bugs, well worth it.
You da man @ammonyc
Everyone in my country is ditching the Clear Bra method and they are going for nano ceramic coat, what do you think of that ?
Thank you for shortening the intro.
what I can do to help
hey there ... great site ! theres a better way i feel to take off the film ... the heat gun promote the adhesive and sometimes breaks away from the film and stays on the car ... hot water from the tap ... and as hot as it gets ... boiling water may be to hot and hard to work with ... you simply pour and peel at the same time ... DO NOT PEEL THE FILM BACK ! lift it towards you at about 40 degree angle the flatter you pull it towards you the more of it will come off easier ... you may also like the new nano fusion ... but it will get some getting used to with the new liner ... the adhesive is a little more aggressive due to the new backing ... take care
Was the car waxed before putting it pn?
What collection is that? Or is it a private collection.
Do you have to polish after removing clear bra?
Would leaving the car outside on a hot day when removing the clear bra be good idea?
I think there's a typo in the description.
Larry, I've had a clear bra on my car for over 8 years. I've recently decided to remove and reinstall a new one, because the old one is starting to look dull and is pitted by road debris. No one will touch it, because they are afraid removing it will pull the paint, or that it will break into a thousand pieces and take all day to remove. Do you agree with these people, or are they just avoiding the work, because they are afraid of giving me a quote since they can't estimate how long it will take?
I can't tell without seeing it but usually older clear bra is harder to remove so I can understand their hesitation. Sometimes it comes off easily and sometimes it flakes and even pulls paint so that's probably why they don't want to quote before the work. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and supporting AMMO.
I'll tell you from experience today that it was probably fear. I forgot 8 year old cars are a pain, even garage kept and maintained. Quoted a hundred (I'm not a professional detailer by any means, and I undercut so I can actually get some form of extra income at such a young age) and it took me all day, not knowing it would take so long. I didn't prepare for the worst, got through it in 8 hours (between cars on a work schedule), blisters, bruised nails, and bloody fingers and a sore back. I won't quote those again without doing the work first.
That was a nightmare, and ended up pulling paint off a side mirror (he already told me he needed that assembly replaced, but expected that paint to come off).
Definitely must have been fear. Even managed to melt it into gum, trying at least a dozen methods to remove it off the paint. Never again man, never again lol
Why would the show deduct points for having a clear bra? not OEM?
do you think adding a clear bra to a windshield would help prevent chips and cracks? I drive a jeep wrangler and chips always happen. I figured it would work like a screen protector on the phone
Since it protects the paint, it would do the same for the glass. I just don't know if it would affect the clarity.
No, as the clear bra is still kinda stretchy and not going to be clear enough. There is a plastic that can installed on the windshield to protect it though. Jay Leno had a vid on it as well as clear bra.
thats a smart idea actually
The PPF on my mother's 2007 Volvo V70 has taken so much mutilation, time for bumper overhaul
Hey Larry, I have the Rupes LHR15 mark II. Every time I go off of a flat surface, the pad separates from the backing plate, and I have to stop and adjust the pad. It seems I can't use it on anything but a flat surface. Is this normal? I feel as if the backing plate is not sticky enough.
Def not. I would hit up Kevin Brown at buffdaddy.com. He's got all the info you'll need to fix that.
do you have any videos on detailing an engine?
I do. Check out my RUclips Channel and also look up "Drive Clean" on RUclips.
Awsome!
