    Would I like to use AF more often -- most definitely! Would let me pay more attention to keeping dancers in the frame as they dart across the dance floor, which is one of the most challenging tests I've found for an AF system, other than perhaps your "completely dark" test.

    • @ProAVTV

      From what I have seen, I think this could pass your dancer test.

    Hi Carl, is there a difference in the Auto Focus when you choose another Mode like S35 or Full HD 100fps?

  • @jayb.johnson139
    @jayb.johnson139 4 года назад

    I don't worry about or use autofocus that much. That being said, tracking a person walking toward the camera is a great benefit. I've learned to like the facial recognition autofocus on my Canon EOS R. I don't know if anyone said this before, but what he doesn't say in the video is that this only works well with Sony lenses. This is very important for so many of us who already use Canon lenses and an adapter. I'm going to see a live demo soon with this camera, and curious to do a test with EF lenses.

  • @johncummings8602
    @johncummings8602 4 года назад +2

    I really wanted to see AF performance as you zoom out on a presenter as they walk toward you. In other words, keeping the same basic framing as they walk closer to camera, as compared to a static wide as they walk up. Make sense?

    Alister did the same test as you did with the shell. I'm not sure what setting he used but it did work well. I'd say it was better. Also he used the thumb stick to control the auto focus manually in real-time with and indicator box that appears on screen. So you actually have a bit more control.
    May be The Portkey monitor, and a LANC cable you will be able to gain the touchscreen function as they have for Z-cam, and some other sony cameras.

    excellent test of autofocus. Also excellent point with the lack of touch screen ability to point at the area to focus. Can it track moving elements that are not faces?

    • @ProAVTV

      I don't believe it can.
      Carl

  • @retlwiz
    @retlwiz 4 года назад +1

    Impressive from the distance to close-up, but the lack of a touch screen does limit it quite a lot. Also it didn't follow the subject when she turned around and walked away, which is quite a common situation to have to film. Room for a "back of the head follower" mode? Also I would be interested to know how it compares to the C500 mkii autofocus. This will be the camera's main competitor, I assume.

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  4 года назад

      I think that moment you were talking about was when we have the camera set to 'face only'. That means when it loses the face it will simply stop focusing. We also redid the test in 'Face Priority' which we also show. In that mode when it loses the face it will chose something else to focus on instead until it next finds a face. So in that mode it did follow her as she walks away from camera.

      @kevinlangdon6172 4 года назад

      @@ProAVTV Did you test the AF using the zoom on the lens when someone is walking towards the camera? This is also a common occurrence when keeping the framing say as a medium close up throughout when someone is walking towards the camera and talking at the same time. It would be interesting to see how this works instead of a static wide frame with someone walking towards the camera.

    • @kevinlangdon6172
      @kevinlangdon6172 4 года назад

      It would also be good to see how smooth and controllable the zoom is on this camera compared to say a typical eng type zoom lens. I see Sony say the lens connector is much improved. It would be interesting to see by how much.

  • @DanielCProduction
    @DanielCProduction 3 года назад +1

    A real issue i've had is when there are multiple faces in a shot, you can't select one to prioritize. I've also found it prioritizes white faces over any darker skin. Likely because of contrast, but not good!

    I like how face detection has improved, but what really bugs me is that the camera doesn't 'connect' the face to a body shape, so that a subject can be followed when they turn from the camera and walk away. That would be truly helpful if properly implemented.

    Wish they had included the tracking feature of the new Sony A7R iv and a6600. Would be so useful to be able to choose any subject/object via touch or by having the focus point over it and pressing the joystick or other another programmable button down to lock it in (like possible in photo mode on said cameras, as touching the screen can introduce shake when handheld). The technology is definitely there. Also do you know if AF on/off can be put on a assignable button? This was always very helpful on the A7 series to take over control from the AF in an instant.

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  4 года назад +1

      Touchscreens aren’t perfect for this kind of camera. As the screen is normally no where near your hands. But the flexible spot and joystick combo just isn’t fast enough to be a viable replacement in my opinion

    • @ProAVTV

    On my FS5 mk2 the autofocus is GARBAGE. My Canon 80D is 100x better. Unless it's a straight-on, medium to close shot, and well-lit it CANNOT find a face and will just slowly (painfully slow) rack back and forth until it finds something it likes. Usually the background. I was hoping for it to make my wedding shoots easier and it definitely does not. Hopefully, they'll make this tech available as an upgrade in the fs5's as well.
