man, this is how we did it back in the 70s! it's become so much about just physical, but this demonstrates what it's really about. sooooo thankful to have found this practice, this way, again.....
This is magic. Just went to a "yoga" class that was really calesthenics with a few yoga poses added. My arms were shaking afterwards.... All yoga seems to "flow" these days: I do not want to flow, I want to settle and breath.
Om Shanti this is traditional Hatha yoga with Sri Swami Satchidananda! Thank you! Exactly how I was taught by one of his students... so happy to come across this. I do 6 days a week. Keep practicing and change will happen...peeling away what is unnecessary so the inner light can shine. Peace, Love, light and Healing to all!
This is what true and pure yoga is. It’s not just stretching of your limbs but altering your vibration and energies by controlling your breath during various poses. Most of the trainers and coaches themselves don’t know the potential and true reason why Yoga exists. One should practise under a true gurus guidance in order to reap the full benefits. Not just physically but mentally too. By alternating breathing the dormant energy within is activated which can change you for the best forever. In order to spread this ancient knowledge true Yogi gurus have migrated outside India mostly to US so that the whole world can know it’s true essence. Path to liberation goes through Yoga. You just don’t do yoga you live it. It’s a lifestyle. Start living Yoga. There are Various types of yoga like Hathayoga, Gyaanyoga, Karmayoga. Start living Yoga and experience the change yourself. 🧘♀️🕉
Am I the only one who feels this is the only valid hata yoga class on RUclips? Does anyone know about another amazing class which provides the right timing and wisdom as well as the teacher being properly dressed and less interested in ego? Thank you!!
This is the best video of the whole youtube collection ..it is so pure , every single statement is so valid and informative..it explains everything with utmost simplicity..I fear the amateurs wearing again pants with half knowledge
I took yoga classes back in the 90's in NYC if I'm not mistaken this guru teaches the classes and at that time this is all I needed Hatha yoga. That was the best thing ever happen in my life. And I'm at it up to today and I enjoy the session again with peace and love.
This reminds me of why I fell in love with yoga, in my teens. I love how peaceful and pure this is. Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been practicing for about 36 years, teaching on and off for decades, and this is really heavenly.
This Hatha Yoga is terrific. Jesse Gallagher is clear, patient, takes the time to complete each yoga movement without rush, stress leaving the recipient calm, relaxed, and completely composed. A truly divine and spiritual experience to continue unceasingly.
Hello everybody!! I have been struggling with some discipline in my life and have been trying to start yoga to help me balance my physical and mental state.. I started yoga couple of weeks ago and stumbled across this video by luck. Today was my first day to do the entire 1.15 hour session with Swami Sachidanand!! I felt accomplished and amazing after the session. I want to express my gratitude and thanks for sharing such wonderful practice with all and giving us opportunities to bring it in our lives.
i also forgot to mention, I've been doing a silent practice (with music) that is more of an accompaniment to someone's practice on their own.. I am trying to put up 3 videos a week... you may enjoy>? :) ruclips.net/p/PLCAOQn60d-2QbZOCVrwjTzx1EsCR_GirI
@@schwarzenhund7091 I've had many students with back issues. As long as you go slowly, modify as needed and honor your own body's needs at each practice it should be safe. It will likely help to heal the issue as well.
I never met Swami ji,I only watched a lecture by him when I was staying at Sivananda da Ashram, but I always wanted to meet him.I am very happy to practise Suryanamaskar with him.
This is so refreshing after seeing so many Yogi videos with human beings worshipping another human being. This, however, is genuine teaching and I'm happy to see it!
This practice was so peaceful, so strong, so mindful, so blissful. True Yoga as it was practised for thousands of years and moving far away from the gym culture influence that the West has had on this beautiful yogic way of life. A thousand gratitudes to you. Hari Om.
I had the good fortune to visit yogaville in buckingham for a satsang before satchidanda left his body. He embodied the best of humanity. Wonderful to see this full and complete practice.
Im 58 just started beginners class 5th week online( breathe & flow) & feel great..will definitely be trying this ...great to have authentic real deal hatha yoga class..
This is the only real yoga class for beginner on youtube that is perfect, it consider also relaxation and compassion, the breath and the mind and mantras. Thank you very much for sharing this class. I hope I will have a deeper experience maybe one day in India, but for now this class is the best I could ever immagine!
For those reading this before the class: don't be surprised or scared when the audio drops out when he's talking about the soul (+/- 1:00:00.) Completely got me out of my concentration sadly because I kept wondering whether it was done or broken etc etc. It isn't. The audio comes back! Hope this helps!
This is wonderful. There are people in the West who have made what they call yoga videos ( and dvds ) that look like aerobic workout videos in slower motion. They’re actually stressful to listen to, too. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Day 24... I can put my socks on without struggling! Although there is still plenty of tension in my lower back, hips and pelvis I can feel it deceasing by the day and it has come down greatly since the start of this yoga journey (my beef diet seems to be helping/healing as well as the salt baths). Today I actually lifted my knees off the floor when in bow pose. Before I was able to do it slightly but when giving the “UP!!” it was all in my head before. That seemed like a pretty big breakthrough. The Fish pose again targets the knot/tension in my lower back and it it very relaxed when I come out of that pose. I still struggle with the forward bending poses. I believe that will improve once the the back/hip/pelvis tension subsides and I lose the muffin top/spare tire around my waist. Just keep showing up! Something different is presented daily!! Thank you very much.
I practice this every day. My body is changing, improving and healing. Thank you. Lo practico todos los días. Mi cuerpo está cambiando, mejorando y curándose. ¡Muchas gracias! Hari Om Tat Sat, desde Uruguay.
Of what was said in the end of this video put me into true tears of realization, gratitude, acceptance, compassion of sadness and joy of what I lost, and what I've been becoming that caused the losses. Truth
I have tried them all beginning years ago with Hatha and then moving to Bikram, Kundalini, Ashtanga and now I’m back doing Hatha. What Is recognized in MY self is that Hatha teaches me much more than instant transformation (studio yoga as I call it). This form of yoga is probably the original yoga because as you find yourself more and more limber you notice that these “chakras” the studio yogas speak of are being worked on and you find yourself growing mentally, physically, spirituality all at the same time.
Ohhh, I’m a student yoga teacher training and I started off with Ashtanga….boy wish I did I had a bit more knowledge between the differences of styles beforehand. I’m finding with Ashtanga it’s more fast paced and if you’re looking more of a workout whereas with Hatha you move from one asana to the next slowly and Vinyasa somewhere in between (Hatha/Ashtanga)….i think. I’ll be learning Hatha Vinyasa come Feb 2024 🙂🙏🏽
Wonderful video. Real yoga, not the mainstream exercise stuff. Watched the video today and tried to follow the instructions as they go. I must say it was so hard and I could feel how stiff my muscles and bones are!! Most of positions I couldn’t do near as deep in the asana as the students did. I hope to practice this sequence more regularly and hopefully I can witness my body becoming more flexible so I can do yoga with ease and relaxation. Thank you so much for posting this video. I wish there were next level videos with Sri Swami Satchidananda somewhere 🙏
How kind is your way of giving a class, Swami Satchidananda!Never making pressure on students to do anything, just suggesting them the best the way to practice yoga. Thanks! Namasté
I was looking for some hatha yoga exercises I can practice well even as a beginner. This man showed just exactly what I was looking for. Perfect for an everyday routine. U can extend the exercises with longer breathingsequences etc to adjust it to your own speed and need. Absolutely brilliant! And he explains just on point. What a great master!
Om Shanti Sri Swami Satchidananda thank you so much for your beautiful teaching, so clear and simply explained, I really enjoyed the practice. Love and Light to all
Really good. No great. Holding the posture and feeling the stretch in the body. Also the yoga Nidra. There are not many teachers or gurus who teach this type of yoga. Reminds me of my guru in Hyderabad Shri Surender sir who unfortunately passed away in a road accident a year back. May his soul rest in peace.
Day 19... Had a flare up of my head/back issue which made my back tension high again today but was still impressed with my flexibility... Touched my toes on the double leg head-to-knee, held my shoulder stand the whole time and even did the half lotus!!! Can’t wait until my pelvis, hips and back loosen up. The tension sure makes it tough. I did this one with my wife again who is in Taiwan (I am in Canada). I have come a long way... I will keep showing up in order to heal my body. Thank you.
After total knee reconstruction in my youth I have a cyst in the joint from years of abuse(bikes and surfing). Last 2 years its become more painful as ligaments get caught on the cyst and "flick" it. Very painful but not restrictive . Last night I was doing yoga and I felt the cyst move in a way I hadn't felt before. As of now the knee is as free as its been in years and the inflammation is much lower. Its as if an alignment has corrected the issue and is allowing the knee to heal correctly for the first time ..Like a blister that was always being rubbed , now the realignment has stop the rubbing and is allowing the blister to heal!!! Fricken Amazeballz!!!! Never not doing yoga eva again !
Day 8.... In the final prayer at the end do you say “the science of yoga”? Today my progress seemed to be around breath. There is still lots of tension through my back and hips but slowly becoming more relaxed and flexible. When you talk about breathing in vitality I could feel energy back in my body which is so nice because my body has been feeling like it is dying slowly for some time - with very little energy I was unsure how to mitigate that. During the rest in the middle the lower back muscle that has carried me through my life - so loyal - felt like he actually took a step aside and allowed me to relax on my own... he actually took a short break!! So powerful. The chanting and praying at the end feels like where the real healing is happening. I can feel the vibrations of the chanting slowly chipping away at the tension in my hips and back. The prayer appears to be opening my mind where my eyes are more aware in between practices. I had so much energy this morning that I spent 3 hours focusing on my healing through this tool I was introduced to in Taiwan where you activate the muscle through a slapping motion. I truly feel that the Hatha Yoga is bringing me back to life. And now I am using other knowledge, skills and tools to prepare myself for my next practice. Thank you very much for helping me heal.
Day 22... Epiphany day!! So it looks like my yoga practice helped me finally find out the root cause of my health problems. If you are reading this for the first time I have been battling with all sorts of random issues but the main one is that when I was working (not even very strenuously) I would experience a massive pressure in my head and when it maxed out my back was left with not only no strength but would basically give out when standing anytime I lean forward even slightly and basically throw be towards the ground. Out of sheer will I have managed to catch myself every time and have not fallen yet. Also sitting up on the edge of the bed my back gives out too. Basically I need to lay in bed until it dies down. Now the reason I share all of that is because the only patterns I could see is that it happens when I work, exert energy and bend over. Basically describes yoga but the funny thing is these symptoms do not happen when I do yoga!!! For 3 days in a row I have tried to be more productive around the house because I am starting to feel better from the yoga, the beef diet and the salt baths. After my salt bath this morning I decided to scrub the tub when I started to feel the pressure building in my head. I swear because of yoga I am more in the present and I scanned my body to see what was going on.... I WAS NOT BREATHING!!!!! So I slowed down, breathed “normally” and kept scrubbing. THE PRESSURE WENT AWAY!! I am 47 years old and I have no idea if me not breathing when I work is truly the cause of my problems but it sure seems to make sense! In hind sight it is so simple but also so alarming how oblivious I have been. As you may have read in a lot of the other days I have struggled with concentration and focus during the breathing exercises at the end. Believe me breathing took on a whole new meaning during today’s practice. Everywhere we are told to “hold the breath” I am learning to keep breathing and breathing through all of the poses. My practice has come so far it is really hard to explain. I am so grateful that I just keep showing up. Thank you for guiding me back to life!!!
i just did this yoga by myself at home. i feel healthy and at peace. I just looked at the mirror and was shocked by the healthy glow on my face. Yoga is amazing
Day 25... Tension shifting. The knot/tension in my back that I have been struggling with was so low today that I actually felt a new tension spot on the other side. I also was able to get my pelvis to relax more today as well. One thing I have neglected to talk about because if has come down by the time I write is my heart rate. Now that I am getting more proficient at the sun worship my heart rate is getting up there. I never associated yoga and elevated heart rate before so that has been interesting. Today I was able to share my practice with my wife over video chat again (she is in Taiwan and I am in Canada) which was very nice. I am still struggling with the focused breathing at the end. Will keep practicing. Thank you for how far I have come. I feel like my hips are on the verge of a major transformation or something.
sun salutations raise heat in the body, it can almost be like cardio at times. the elevated heart rate is normal, but it shouldn’t still be elevated after
this is so very wonderful and refreshingly authentic. more attention to the insides than the outsides. back to basics! what a blessing to have found this... OM
I m teaching a Hatha yoga and Mindfulness meditation retreat, some participants in my previous group, literally demanded that I give them more stretching, what they wanted was Vinyasa. Is so sad that classical Hatha yoga will not be interest anymore as Vinyasa and all kind of styles are developing in the West. I m never going to share commercialised practise, this is not what Yoga is.
I studied with him for the most amazing retreat 10 day retreat in my life. I went back into life, and would do and then not do. I am so happy to have reconnected to Master Satchidananda, even if through this way- he was so gentle kind and FUNNY 🙏😌
This is the kind of yoga class I’m looking for. I like that Swami Satchidananda helped his students to be in the correct asana; does gently. Haven’t had an instructor do that in years.
He is so calm, reassuring every time the students with complimenting comments. The eastern yoga instructors specifically the ones in the Netherlands always make me feel like they have preferred students, their special ones ...
I don't know much about Yoga philosophy and its history but here I really find the integration of mind, body & soul (I don't believe in souls. But I imagine this is close to what they call it.) A healthy body is always also about a calm mind. Mindful practice. Thank you.
All teary eyes, I needed this so much! Thank you so much for posting this video and bringing so much of peace, happiness and harmony!! Thank you, thank you guruji, thank you mighty universe. Om Shanti!! ❤️❤️❤️
this is not a simple yoga class, this is magic, if only i can describe the feeling of consciousness, presence, and connexion to my body i am feeling right now. may God bless you Guru ji and all the students and everyone that contributes to sharing this hatha yoga class with me thanks
a pure and honest yoga video. it was such genuine pleasure watching it. Thank you for making us, the viewers, a part of this. i tried these asanas, and feeling absolutely relaxed and wonderful. thank you, Swami Satchidanand ji.
@@JesseGallagher Is there a part 2 to this video. I have been following the part 1 from a while now and would love to continue to part 2. Please drop the link if there is part 2. 🙏
Day 5... what an incredible day! The muscles in my back are still very tense but trusting me more. I was actually able to go from the laying position to the seated position without forcing or lifting my feet!!!! That is massive for me as this is something I have always struggled with trying to do sit-ups or any other exercise like that. My lotus position is still very far away but it has come so far... and I held it through right thru the end breathing and chanting (the other days I came out of lotus about 1/2 way). Thank you so much for this. I feel like I am learning how to heal myself. Oh, and the other thing is that in between practices I have lots of flatulence which must be pent up gas as I am eating very lightly and does not seem to be food induced. I feel much less bloated which also is making it easier to bend forward in the seated position (still not getting very far but every millimeter feels freeing!) I may do the practice twice today as this is as early as I finished. My gratitude is huge. Thank you.
I have been practicing Yoga for quite some time now. It feels like I 'experienced' it actually today. Wish we could get more of Swami Satchidananda classes!
Glenn Rainer ...It's nice that you liked it...But something much beyond expectations is there in pranayam. If done in correct sequence, correct duration and correct state of mind...
@@JesseGallagher I really want to do this but what is the breathing i.e. inhale/exhale for each movement...he doesn't really say ??? Can you explain it please ?
@@fleurriida7098 if you want to do asanas with breath... these are the simple rules to follow: bending sideward, upwards or backwards is an inhale (basically when you expand your body in any way). Twists and forward bends are exhale (basically when you’re contracting your body in any way).
Estou cada dia mais apaixonada pelo Yoga, não diria apaixonada pois paixão é algo passageiro, na verdade estou amando essa filosofia maravilhosa pro corpo, alma e mente. Gratidão 🙏🧘♂️⭐💫
Day 3... Today felt like I was more present yet less relaxed. I am very grateful for taking me on this journey. The eye exercises seem to be making my eyesight clearer. I really struggle with the lotus position. It feels a very long ways away. I will simply keep practicing and doing my best. 🙏🏼
Everytime!! Whatever stress I carry in my head goes away with this practice. I cannot thank you enough for uploading this video. It is a gem ❤️ I bow down to guruji.
Wow i just done do this yoga and i feel so at peace like out of speace expirience did anyone who did this yoga feel so or it is only me the best yoga ever
Day 23... Tension shifted today! During the Fish pose I have been putting all of my weight on my head and my hips - nothing on my elbows after I am in the position. This is an amazing stretch for my lower back right where the worst knot/tension is. I then try to relax all other muscles in the body and breathe fully. Today when I did all this there was a sort of a shift where the tension was and all of a sudden I felt fully relaxed (I am almost positive I am not but the relief made it feel that way. My hips and pelvis are slowly opening up as well. Funny I had a thought today that before I decided to do this at home I was going to join a Monday Night Men’s Yoga class in my town. Knowing me I would then, most likely, not practice at home so even if I did 23 weeks like that I don’t think that I would have had all the profound experiences that I am having this way. I am proud that I keep showing up and I am super grateful of this practice and it’s part in my healing. Thank you.
Thanks so much Swamiji, it was a delicious yoga class, very indian style, as I knew in Rishikesh in Sivananda Ashram 32 years ago. May God bliss you 🕉🙏🏼🧘♀️
Legal notice is certainly a legal requirement in the country where the video was made. It is not the yoga system that is limited but the understanding of the person who makes criticism so superficial. Sw SatChinAnanda was a person of great heart. He anticipated and fully dedicated the cause of the transition we are living today in 2020. He was a great Master of the science of yoga, disciple of a great Master and doctor sw. Sivananda Saraswati of Rishkesh. A great enlightened Being.
I have to say, this has just created a yoga lover. I tried a bunch of yoga tutorilas and nothing really clicked like this. I felt amazing after this, and I have been doing it almost daily since. His emphasis on, breathing, slow movements and then total relaxation in between each move is vital to warming up the body and creating flexibility. Multiple friends have gasped when I said I was doing Hatha, saying it's so advanced, but this is the perfect beginner class! Just do what you can and you'll see improvements in stretch and strength.
that's a yogi, someone who can not only bend the body but also someone who can bend the mind as well. There are a lot of people out there who claim, they are yogi just because they practice Hatha yoga.
+Garuda Tell me if I'm wrong , but isn't it “Pranāyāma" Pran + āyāma (meaning area of life concerned with prana or breath) And those two are “āsanas" ( i.e, bhujanga + āsana )

I first started yoga at Integral Yoga (this school) in NYC. I learned meditation and basic chants, and pranayama there. It was a practice rather than an aerobic class with a namaste at the end. It worked for me then and now. I am now introducing the video to students because I consider it such an authentic practice.
Day 9.... Today felt more relaxed in my breath but was more challenging concentration wise. Part of it was my preoccupation with the body odour emanating from me. I am not one to sweat very much or have noticeable body odour so my assumption is that I am detoxing or releasing something from my body. During the first 6 or 7 days the flatulence between practices was very prominent. That part has calmed down and I feel much less bloated... this appears to be making it easier when doing the head to knee poses which are getting deeper and more relaxed all the time. Although there is still a lot of pain and tension in my lower back & hips I definitely feel more sturdy in that area even when I walk. When doing the long relaxation on my back, the spot on my lower back above my right buttock was so relaxed that it actually exposed how tense the left side was (before then I assumed it was relaxed!!!!!) I am feeling very grateful for this practice and interested what is in store tomorrow. Thank you.

This is a knowledgeable andauthentic teacher of hatha yoga, something rather rare in the West.

Bikram is pure hatha, just the order of the asanas is changing
Technically, all yoga "styles" fall under the umbrella of hatha yoga.

This is the only authentic beginner yoga on youtube ❤
I love this story so much... the magic of yoga! (& Swami Satchidananda )...
🙏🏼Jesse Gallagher gave a gifts too many other than this fantastic video , I listen to Jesses music often. Namaskar to a beautiful soul.

Keep it up

This is the kind of yoga class I’m looking for. I like that Swami Satchidananda helped his students to be in the correct asana; does gently. Haven’t had an instructor do that in years.
Simply lovely...Kind and gentle, yet powerful and strong. This was like the yoga I learned 50 years ago....So refreshing...Thank you!

Day 5... what an incredible day! The muscles in my back are still very tense but trusting me more. I was actually able to go from the laying position to the seated position without forcing or lifting my feet!!!! That is massive for me as this is something I have always struggled with trying to do sit-ups or any other exercise like that. Oh, and the other thing is that in between practices I have lots of flatulence which must be pent up gas as I am eating very lightly and does not seem to be food induced. I feel much less bloated which also is making it easier to bend forward in the seated position (still not getting very far but every millimeter feels freeing!)

In 2020?????
I have to say, this has just created a yoga lover. I tried a bunch of yoga tutorilas and nothing really clicked like this. I felt amazing after this, and I have been doing it almost daily since. His emphasis on, breathing, slow movements and then total relaxation in between each move is vital to warming up the body and creating flexibility. Multiple friends have gasped when I said I was doing Hatha, saying it's so advanced, but this is the perfect beginner class! Just do what you can and you'll see improvements in stretch and strength.

I first started yoga at Integral Yoga (this school) in NYC. I learned meditation and basic chants, and pranayama there. It was a practice rather than an aerobic class with a namaste at the end. It worked for me then and now. I am now introducing the video to students because I consider it such an authentic practice.
I did the class again and i'm still thankful and some kind off speechless and fascinated what it gives to me. Thank you again

I am so grateful to find that video under the lockdown.
Thank you the teacher, such a inspring and calm voice you send to us 🙏
When doing the long relaxation on my back, the spot on my lower back above my right buttock was so relaxed that it actually exposed how tense the left side was (before then I assumed it was relaxed!!!!!)
I am feeling very grateful for this practice and interested what is in store tomorrow.
Thank you.
