My husband and I were on Sun Princess in May/June. Even though we both wanted to go on the roll glider, there was so much to do, we didn't miss it. A young teenager was having dinner with his dad at our table at Dario's, and he said he really didn't miss it because he was so busy doing other things. There were a lot of families on board. The kids were great, and even the babies were enchanted with everything.
That’s good to hear. I definitely wanted to give the roll glider a go when I was onboard haha.
Thrilled those features won’t happen. Mini golf, driving range/batting cage,
Those would be good - mini golf especially, with a proper course! 😍
I am glad, relieved, happy. Let RCL, Disney have the amusement parks.
NCL also has some of these attractions on their ships.
I think you are correct when saying it didn't receive accreditation due to safety concerns. Nothing about those attractions looks safe to me. I think Princess should stick with what it does best, and that's not having a fun park on its ships.
go back to deck quoits
@@suave-rider you may have to teach me how to play. 😆
We found out that your insurance wont cover you for injuries on the amusements unless you have a separate cover for them.
Relieved
Good. Keep it for the older crowd. And looks unsafe like the surf rider on royal so many accidents
I’m not surprised. I’ve cancelled 2 cruises with princess and will avoid them after spending 6 months trying to get princess to fix my login issues and the ability to book dining reservations with no success. Spent hours trying to get a fix and even try to get a manager to help. But they don’t care. All these issues are related to my sun princess reservation. Totally disappointed. Never again
Oh wow, that sounds awful. Sorry to hear it was such a shambles.
It could be the classification society (i.e. Norska Veritas, Lloyds of London) would not approve the apparatus or structures that were planned for Park 19. Often naval architects will design something and follow instructions of their client, but the shipyard often has a hard time following the drawings and the classification society must approve all of these in order for the ship to obtain insurance. The classification society is an independent body that verifies the vessel is sea worthy. When I was very young, my father had cargo vessels and I grew up going to shipyards when the vessels were being built or in dry dock and I always remember the classification society inspector giving my Dad a hard time. I’m not sure that this is what happened but it is a possibility. .
Great insight, thanks for sharing!
Cant say im unhappy about it , i personally think there better off without them. im sure they will put something great in there place
I hope so! I’ll keep an eye on any developments.
Best for Princess to stay in their lane. I'm not disappointed that the extra attractions have been cancelled. They were not attractive to me.
Personally, one of my favourite things about Princess Ships is that they don't have all the theme park attractions. I know people who have been on the Royal Caribbean ships and say they have to line up for way too long to get a go on things. WHY would you bother. There are so many things to do onboard.
Nowadays, we are multigenerational cruisers. I, in my 40’s, cruise with my mother in her 70’s, with my tween kids. More and more seniors are looking on making lasting memories with their younger generations, going on family cruises. Park 19 would’ve kept the kids out of the other decks and just seemed like a lovely idea.
Too bad they scrapped it. We were looking forward to it during our cruise next April.
Cruising is a terrific way to enjoy a holiday across generations - three generations of my family travelled together on Royal Princess in March and loved it. Park19 would have been a nice addition for the youngies, it's a shame that it won't be realised.
We were on the same cruise. I didn’t like the design of this ship but loved the new elevator system. Princess should stay classy for the adults that sail with them. I won’t be sailing the Sun again.
The elevators are brilliant, such an improvement.
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy the new Royal Caribbean ships have that elevator system as well. Perhaps I’ll run into you on another cruise!
Don’t want all this crap on ships. Bring back the smaller classic ships. Aussie Bob
Way to go Aussie Bob! Totally with you on this one! (UK grumpy old bugger)!
Cheers Mate 🍸
I also couldnt think of anything worse than having to stand there watching the kids instead of going about enjoying my holiday.
Me too 😂
I’m so glad I canceled my cruise for this October. We had 2 families that were going just to experience the Park 19. We love Princess and wanted to have a fun spot for the kids on a newer but midsize ship. We are now going on Disney😂.
Sounds like Disney will be better suited! Enjoy your cruise 😁
I think you would find there is still plenty for kids to enjoy on the ship. I couldnt think of anything worse than having kids on there and having to stand there watching them the whole time. I want to go and enjoy myself.
I love watching kids play. It is a relaxation and enjoyment for me to see them have so much fun especially in the water. Although I wanted to go on Princess my grandkids are gonna love Disney. And to see their faces light up when they see some of their favorite characters is gonna make it worth it all.
Please use Disney. The amusement park atmosphere is never for Princess.
Cruise companies will build ships that make the most profits. Unfortunately this means large ships with families. They will have something for all generations and that includes slides, climbing walls, and adrenaline activities. Look at the other cruise lines orders for new ships. Almost all of them are mega ships.
Hopefully Princess will apply lessons learned from Sun Princess into Star Princess while she's still being built, just as they have done in later ships of the Royal class. Personally I think the Discovery Princess (my favorite Princess ship) is far superior to her class leading Royal Princess.
I think that's the plan, Star will have some changes compared to Sun, although it's not yet known what they will be. Some improvements will definitely be made according to guest and crew feedback. I've not sailed on Discovery yet, but she is due to come to Australia late next year so I will definitely be getting myself onboard to compare her to her older Royal Class fleet mates.
We are so disappointed! We have booked a cruise for August a year ago and our kids just waited for all of this attractions! Princess must make up for this and refund part of the money!
Sorry to hear 😞
We only cruise with Princess as it's our style. They are trying to reach more people in order to fill their huge ships and go to less places. No plans to cruises again.
Yep, had the same thoughts back in 2010. In fact once Carnival started to push their influence on previously independent brands things started to go downhill. I wont be cruising again either. Things have changed generally in the industry and not for the better. Still I can reflect on some fantastic cruises over 40 years (started early) that really went places unlike todays wallowing leviathans that hardly go anywhere! They are mainly people processing machines now that like to empty our wallets as much as possible. Genuine customer loyalty appreciation has long since gone out of the port hole!!
Disappointed for the huge funding being wasted.
Myself as an older person, it won't worry me either way, except that better communication needs to happen in the design and building process.
It maybe a better thing to avoid for a line known for traditional cruising and older market segment?
But what would they do? Put in another gambling area? Outdoor eating area? A slower suspended transport hub from bow to stern to reduce scooters?
Perhaps a Segway course?
It’ll be interesting to see how the space evolves.
Mini golf course would be nice.
the wind would blow the balls around
Agreed! ⛳️
@@suave-rider More of a challenge! They could screen it off a bit to alleviate that. I think there are actually a few ships that have a mini golf putting course up on deck. I was once on a ship that even had table tennis available in a screened sheltered part of the ship. Still lost a few balls out to sea but that hook shot was always a bad idea! 😂👍
If they did not get certification for Park 19, I guess on her first refit they will rip out all that unnecessary steel and ropes.
Maybe someone is at the drafting board figuring out what they can replace that area with that CAN be certified and Safe !!
I don't imagine that Star will have all that baggage seeing that Sun was not certified. Hopefully they did not build it yet.
I think Star will have a few changes… maybe that’s why they delayed her launch a couple of months ago…? Hmm
It does seem a bit hopeful trying to get a ropes course safety certified when it requires balance while being built on a moving, swaying ship.
How did other ships get their equipment certified? Were they built in a different yard?
Heh good point! Many ships have been built at Fincantieri that have a range of attractions, but Royal Caribbean’s are usually built in Germany from what I recall.
The attractions really weren't that "adrenalin charged" and I suspect they may have become white elephants. A rooftop garden bar sounds like a good replacement!
Ooh a rooftop garden bar would be sensational. I wonder if they’ll still use it as a kid-friendly venue through, since the water area is still there.
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy turn it into a water feature and have cabanas, and loungers, and shade and plants and cocktails and bar snacks. Would be my preferred option!
We just canceled our January cruise after I saw this. I'm in my late 60's and I use the ropes courses every sea day when I go on Carnival. I was really looking forward to the hang gliders. This would of been my first cruise on Princess. Sounds like a pretty boring group anyway.
There’s an ocean of choice out there! Happy cruising.
Legal liabilities avoided. Yup.
Seems it... especially if it wasn't up to scratch.
CEO needs to resign. Terrible news
There’s definitely more to it… I do think Fincantieri has also dropped the ball
The Sun is still under a very dark cloud. So much has already changed. Top management at Princess should go!
There’s so much going on behind the scenes… I suspect there’s also more to the potential issues with Fincantieri.
Don't really care as we'll never cruise on her. Far far, too big. Even the Royal Class are too big.
The Coral/Island Princess are probably the best from a size perspective!
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy except Island has removed the 360deg Deck 7 Promenade.
they went too far too fast. rock climbing, aqua theatres, movies, water park, family feud like show would be good on princess lines not roller coaster, ropes courses
😑 meh
Princess is just turning bad!
🫣 there’s definitely a few problems
So I guess a roller coaster is out of the question??? 🎢
Unfortunately! The roll glider was a quasi coaster and that’s not happening anymore 🤔
