Hi! I did Chicago Marathon 2017 too. The best race in world. IT Was a little hot after 13.1 at finish, but was all perfect. Chicago City is beautfull Congrats for your PB and tks to show us your race. I loved remember all course in my race. Tks friend. Regards from São Paulo-Brazil
Well done dude! That's a top effort! Such a great vibe and marathon that! Taking an hour off your PB regardless is still ace! You can be very proud of it!
Hey, I am about to run my first marathon in Chicago 2022 and I’m very nervous. I’ve been running for a couple of years (one with a coach), I’ve ran 6 half Maratones with a 1:35’04 PB but I’ve suffered some calves strain lately. My target goal is 4:45 per km (3:20) but I am losing confidence. What’s your best advise for this race considering it’s my first marathon and my desired / expected finish time? Thank you.
I usually start people on the Pegasus. It's a good shoe that most people enjoy. If you have any issues with it, depending on what those are, I can give more individualized feedback.
thank you! i know i should be, but it's been hard so far to be too proud of this result, as i had such high expectations. but as i went through and edited this video, it turned out that i had done much better than what was already otherwise emblazoned in my memory (crazy how negativity can so quickly and so erroneously imprint itself). so, i am focusing on the good to pull out of this day. and we will build on that.
kofuzi mate I went out in my first marathon and told to take your best half time, double it and add 10 minutes. So my best half time was 1.30 so I aimed to go through half way at 1.35.... I did that successfully and then epically crashed at mile 17 and ran the second half in 2hr 20mins to finish in 3.56.... you did bloody well to keep yourself going that long for a first marathon in 10 years.... just remember these successful marathon runners take years to build up the endurance needed... for us beginners it's all a learning curve. I never had the endurance to hold out that pace but you did a far better even paced effort. Be proud and also remember it's your starting point now for your next one... and of course a huge pb
yes!!! Same happened to me, that mile 17 is a bugger for everyone! I ended on 4:13 in my first marathon after clocking 1:48 in the first half, so you can really see that wall hit me hard af :D And as Andy says, it's a learning curve which is what I LOVE about this.
Great job! I understand being down about missing your goal, but an HOUR PB, but thats incredible! I heard the heat was really tough that day. Based on your half time, I'm sure you will hit your goal, the next time out.
so glad you filmed! congrats sir....I did notice on Strava that your 3rd mile was a bit fast....looks like you noticed quickly though. Oh no...the quad cramp is never good. Did a cramp ever happen in training? No small feat...how does this time stack up against Baltimore?
+Seth James DeMoor Baltimore was an hour slower. I didn’t really have any cramping during training. I did have some left hip muscle issues, like it felt like it was popping out of socket, but not in a major way. I think we spent too much energy thinking about pace. I know personally, I never felt like I got into a good rhythm. Always felt like I was trying to catch up or slow down. I was glad in the end that I filmed. But around mile 19 and 20, I was very tempted to just chuck the GoPro and phone to lighten the load. I was willing to try nearly anything.
+chris _theconcious one it’s beautiful. There is a spot near Chinatown where the scenery gets a little industrial and dreary. Other than that, the course is great with the best spectators all along the way
Great video and well done, Kofuzi. How much did the heat play a factor on the day? Did you intend to run so fast towards the start? Just interested to know.
+Martin Crockett the heat definitely made a difference. I wouldn’t say that it would have been a completely different result, but the sun definitely felt like it was beating down on me in those later miles. We didn’t intent to run so fast. I think we just got caught up in the excitement. A rookie mistake, but a lesson learned.
I ran the Chicago Marathon this year too. My goal was to finish before the 6:30:59 cutoff and I did it LOL. barely. Do you plan on running again next year? I want to.
kofuzi Brooks Levitate 2 come out tomorrow and I’m interested. I may wait for reviews first, but they do offer a 90 day trial which is awesome for a shoe company! I appreciate your vlogs, great job.
yes. and a gopro. but in the winter, i wear enough layers that i can put these things in pockets. and my hands will instead be holding hand warmers inside super thick mittens.
Congratulations! That was a huge pr despite failing to run the desired time!
Thank you for taking the time and effort to show us the race.
thanks so much for watching and commenting! i love the feedback.
Best vlog yet. So much energy in those captures!! Congrats on a truly remarkable accomplishment as well
+Blake thanks! I am glad the energy comes through. The spectators and all the runners make for an unreal experience.
Awesome Job!!! Congratulation on this accomplishment. You ran 26.05 miles more than I could.
thanks so much!
Congratulations!!

You did Great...😃😃😃am i just started running marathons but i really need help with some good running shoes what shoes do you recommend??
I usually start people on the Pegasus. It's a good shoe that most people enjoy. If you have any issues with it, depending on what those are, I can give more individualized feedback.
@@kofuzi Thanks ill give it a try 😊 and do you recommend ice baths after running a marathon?
some people swear by it. i haven't had an ice bath in about 20 years. i don't recall it being a pleasant experience.
@@kofuzi Thanks alot i did the half marathon last month now am goin to the the hot chocolate marathon ..Thanks for the tips n your great videos man😃
You gritted your teeth and did an amazing job you should be so proud of yourself!! Such an incredible effort!!!

That's tough to film / talk in a MARATHON! Not many folks can do that. Nice work, maybe next time you have someone film for you : )
+Seth James DeMoor Lottery for 2018 opens up at the end of the month, if you’re volunteering!
Hi! Thank you for sharing! I’m overcoming my fear to do a marathon by signing up for Chicago 2018. How was the route?
+chris _theconcious one it’s beautiful. There is a spot near Chinatown where the scenery gets a little industrial and dreary. Other than that, the course is great with the best spectators all along the way
thank you for your inspiring story and congratulations!!! how long did you have to train to get to that level?
it took me about a year and a half, running year round and injury free.
Great video and well done, Kofuzi. How much did the heat play a factor on the day? Did you intend to run so fast towards the start? Just interested to know.

Congratulations on finishing! I am hoping to run again next year, but we will see what happens with the lottery.
Unfortunately the audio is gone from 7minutes to 8.30 :( Used to watch this video a lot for marathon motivation
hmmm. let me look into that.
What shoes did you choose for this? Have you ever tried Brooks?
I ran in the Nike Zoom Pegasus 34.
I have not tried brooks
kofuzi Brooks Levitate 2 come out tomorrow and I’m interested. I may wait for reviews first, but they do offer a 90 day trial which is awesome for a shoe company!
I appreciate your vlogs, great job.
people who run in brooks seem to really love running in brooks. i've never tried them, but they seem to have really great brand loyalty
awesome job. That's really what I saw on the course :)
Thanks for watching!
A bit late, but I’m running Chicago next month!
nice!
Great job.
Thanks!
Do you always just carry your phone in your hand while running?
yes. and a gopro.
but in the winter, i wear enough layers that i can put these things in pockets. and my hands will instead be holding hand warmers inside super thick mittens.
