love these pink floyd videos! I just went on a road trip with my dad and we listened to Pink Floyd for a majority of the trip, reminiscing on the first times my dad showed me their discography! Meddle is a must listen, and I think the Final Cut and Obscured by Clouds are underrated! Keep up the videos shaggy love the encyclopedic knowledge and I like how your opions go against the common consensus!
1. Echoes 2. Astronomy Domine 3. Shine On (Parts 1-5) 4. Time 5. Wish You Were Here 6. Fearless 7. Let There Be More Light 8. Run Like Hell 9. Lucifer Sam 10. Nobody's Home
Moe. Love 'em. Seen them many times. Chuck has ties to Cincinnati and I saw them do an acoustic show with probably 30 people in attendance. We also have a local bluegrass band called Rumpke Mountain Boys that I have seen do an incredible electrified ONE OF THESE DAYS with the stand up bass. Yeah man, Not Now John and Two Suns are my faves on Final Cut. Fearless for sure - always play that octave riff on my guitar. (Floyd is perfect for beginner guitar by the way - you should try them on your ukulele). Now the other songs I feel need to be praised as #11 are: Pow R. Toc H., See Emily Play, Up the Khyber (totally Saucerful meets Medeski, Martin, and Wood - don't you think?), Cymbaline, Green is the Colour, Main Theme (dude More is awesome), Childhood's End (total prequel to Time), Poles Apart, Take It Back, and Coming Back to Life from Division Bell. Yes Music is the Best. Have you checked out Robert Fripp's new series Robert at Home?
@@theopinionatedhippie470 Yeah man, I am loving his new videos and guitar lessons. Just finished watching the Fracture one. Insane. And.....his speaking tour is coming right through my town so I picked up a ticket for October 6. Will let you know how it went.
Re: "Set the Controls" bass line, if you watch any footage of them doing that one that's out there, Waters is usually just on vocals and that bass line is played by Gilmour on guitar. Which I can only suppose was also played by Barrett in 1967 both live and in the studio. The word is that both Barrett and Gilmour are on the studio version, but the guitar is so minimal there that it's interesting the only track that supposedly has the Five Man Floyd, is the one with neither guitarist standing out. The players that do stand out are Mason with his Chico Hamilton inspired drum pattern (check out "Blue Sands" from Hamilton's 1958 Newport performance for comparison) and Wright with his eerie organ and overdubbed vibraphone.
1. Atom Heart Mother 2. Dogs 3. The Narrow Way (Pt. 1-3) 4. Shine on You Crazy Diamonds (All Parts) 5. The Great Gig in the Sky 6. Pigs 7. The Trial 8. Summer '68 9. Have a Cigar 10. Stay (Criminally underrated Rick Wright track) 11. Set the Controls for the Heart Sun 12. Chapter 24 13. See Emily Play An easier thing to do would be to explain why every Pink Floyd track is a masterclass in song writing. Even just making a top 13 (which was supposed to be a top 10) was insanely hard. Definitely a band I could not live without -- right next to Zappa, Tom Waits and Primus for me.
Yes and that last point: clearly one can make only a list of favorites because each song is its own little masterpiece. Diving down those Waits and Primus rabbit holes in the near future. You a fan of the Lennon Claypool Delirium? That is an underrated little project that delivers the good live.
Have come late to this and still to see your top PF studio albums- but this is a great list and makes me want to go back and listen to Saucerful of Secrets album. And some of your choices would be on my Top 10 too. Off the cuff I would need to include The Narrow Way (love the fade out of Part 3), Saint Tropez, Childhood's End, Any Colour You Like, Dogs, Sheep, Hey You, Not Now John... Dogs would be my number one though. For what it's worth, my two favourite PF 'moments' are the segue from Time to Breathe reprise, and when Waters' vocal comes in on Dogs after the middle section. Will go check out your albums list now!
I’m just no good at lists, but my top ten would have a lot of Syd, Echoes, One of these days, Wish you Were Here, Shine (all parts together!) Pigs, Dogs, and Fearless, for sure. Fearless has my favorite guitar fills ever, at the end towards the fade-out into the crowd singing. Gets me every time! I agree about the lyrics to Wish You Were Here. They hit me as hard, harder, probably, as they did when I first heard it. Just a perfect song. They actually have a lot of those! And I used to go to a lot of Moe. shows back in the roaring nineties, and early 2000’s. They were fantastic, but it’s been years since I’ve seen them. I know the Inca Roads tease you’re talking about, but I can’t think of what song they used to do it in. I always hoped they’d bust out the whole song sometime, and I told Rob that, once. He looked kind of confused about it, actually. I didn’t press it. They used to play at my favorite bar/ restaurant/ music venue ever, a place called Jack Straw’s (go figure). I saw a lot of really great bands on their way up in that place. Moe would do three-night stands there. They used to let them play as late into the morning as they wanted. Many times we’d be leaving at four in the morning. Until the city passed something they called the “dancehall ordinance”, in an effort to stop raves from happening. Bands could not play past two anymore. Morons. But Moe. was the shit! Good times. I was sad to hear that Al is sick, though. Not sure of the details. But I have a lot of great memories of Moe shows, and those days in general, I guess. But fun video man, I love me some Floyd, I’ve never really gotten tired of them.
If this were my list I'd include "interstellar overdrive" (a fantastic studio version of a live jam track), "fat old sun" (which I think would be much more highly acclaimed if it was on meddle) and the live version of Careful with that axe, Eugene (Roger's scream is one of the best screams in rock history). Though the top 10 in my head is 25 songs long. There's a lot of fantastic Pink floyd songs.

Yes, I love Fripp and his wife’s online series. The last person in the world I would have expected to go down such an amazing and fun rabbit hole….
