Wow! It's great to see a company actually following their customers' videos and commenting. This was a fun thing to research. A lot of history out there if you know where to look. Thanks for checking it out.
Yes. I saw an interview with him where he talked about fixing a toy piano and turning it into an organ and then getting the idea to make it pocket-sized. So cool. Thanks for checking out the vid.
Thanks for checking it out man. It was fun to research all of this. I learned a lot but yeah... there have been several oddball stylophones over the years. I need to get that one together soon.
The Gen1 both with and without the vibrato on are the main sounds used in the Orbital track "Style" from their 1999 album "The Middle of Nowhere". If you haven't checked out that track, you should.
thanks for making this excellent video. opening the case and showing the circuits was perfect, but you could have shown the circuits for the new generations too for comparison. I had the generation 4 but didn't love the sound. I saw a generation 2 for sale and now I can clearly hear the difference. the vintage one is much nicer, gen 1 and 2 are the ones to get with the discrete original circuitry. the 555 chip in generation 3 is another sound, certainly more ordinary, because the 555 has been a staple for hand made mono synths for decades.
Thanks for checking out the video. I really appreciate the comment. The reason I didn't show the insides on Gen 4 and 5 is because Dubreq glues the cases shut in the modern era. You can get them open but it takes a bit of work and you risk cracking the plastic. Great suggestion though. I can probably find some pics online for a future vid comparing the circuits.
Thanks for checking it out. Like I said, I made this video because I went looking for it and couldn't find it. It took a bit of research but it was fun to learn.
I would have loved to hear how the Hong Kong licensed one sounded. I've wanted one of these for a few years, but they were never available where I live at a decent price after shipping. Now that it is available at a decent price I decided to do some more research and found this. Very cool. I love the sound of the first two stylophones. Gen 3 just sounds like a square wave to me gives just a generic retro video game vibe. Gen 4 is too harsh for my ears. Gen 5 is kind of in between. I wish they went more mellow like gen 1 and 2. but I guess it will do since it's the only one I can get at a reasonable price. (From amazon -- THIS is why they're taking over the world... lol)
Thanks for checking out the video. The Honk Kong Stylophone is on my list of things to own but I don't have one yet. When I get one, I may have to do another comparison. Thanks for the comment. FWIW, I really like the Gen5.
@@musicalmiscellany Sadly no, it vanished during one of our many moves as an Army brat going from country to country. I still have vivid memories of it, though my complete lack of any musical talent meant all I ever did was hurt everyone’s ears 😁
Yeah I was looking forward to this video. And my preference is this for the stylophone without vibrato I liked that brown one gen 3? And for the with vibrato I liked first generation and fifth gen !!
What a fantastic video!!! Well researched. Thanks for sharing. :)

That's really nice, have you seen Brian Jarvis talking about how he created the Stylophone?
Yes. I saw an interview with him where he talked about fixing a toy piano and turning it into an organ and then getting the idea to make it pocket-sized. So cool. Thanks for checking out the vid.
That was fun! I'm looking forward to the follow-up on all the odd ball stylophones. I hope your wife isn't mad about all of the purchases.

I will definitely check it out. I'm familiar with Orbital but I don't know that track. Thanks for watching the video.

Thank you for the history lessen, nice job
Thanks for watching it. It was a lot of work to put this together. I hope somebody learns something from it.
@@musicalmiscellany I did and something useful at that
Very interesting stuff! I see you have reached 10K subs. Congrats!
Thanks for watching. Yes indeed. 10K. I never would've thought. A giveaway is coming soon so stay tuned.

I don't remember watching this video. I'll watch it again.
I took a lot of research to make this vid. Hopefully it's helpful to you. Thanks.
I lived in Singapore when I got mine in about 1970 and mine was the Hong Kong version with the faux wood finish. 😎
Thanks for watching. Do you still have it?

I figured you'd like this one. I made this video simply because it didn't exist elsewhere but it was really fun to research all of this. Now I know. 😆
I hear the notes for the instrumental "TelStar."
@@samuelgates5935 I was t going for that but I’ll take it. Thanks fir watching
I wonder if it’s a pocket organ or a pocket synthesizer?
It's technically a synthesizer but they called it a pocket organ. I guess you can call it either one.
Frst time i saw one of these i got a note out it then a clap .😂round the earhole by my big brother for touching his new music box,.1971
I"ll bet that was surprising. Don't touch my stylophone bro! LOL.
