The tension build up to fighting Amakusa and Mizuki was CRAZY. Literally scared me when I finally fought them in the arcade.

Amakusa was a culture shock to me. He deserves one of the most stylish boss because of his unique and strange appearence(kabuki makeup, weird speech and some siddham characters in his stage..everything reminds me an image of Japanese visual-kei musician)

Amakusa was an actual historical figure and a man, or more accurately a boy since he was executed at 17. He led a failed rebellion against the Shogun. Stories about him say he had magical powers granted by the god of his religion, but what the game carefully avoids mentioning is that his religion was Christianity, as his parents were converted to Catholicism by Portuguese missionaries before the Shogunate kicked the Portuguese out of Japan. Like Jesus, legend says Amakusa is going to return someday to lead the Japanese to Heaven. That's what is really going on in the story of Samurai Shodown 1 when he says he's awakened from 150 years of sleep, and why in Samurai Shodown 4 the characters travel to the castle at Shimabara, where the real Amakusa and his followers made their last stand before being slaughtered. He's often depicted as androgynous because his followers described him as a beautiful boy, but they probably meant his holiness rather than his appearance. There's a statue of him in his home prefecture where he looks like the sort of slightly chubby teen who would've asked his parents for coins for the Neo Geo machine.

Fernando Gabriel Flores Molina is that true? If so thats wonderful. I love MK and Samurai Shodown, but Samurai Shodown needs as much exposure as possible since its been out of the spotlight for so long and its such a good fighter.
Yea back in the early 90's it was HARD to outdo SF and MK in terms of popularity. But SamSho was third behind tho two in terms of popular fighting games at the time. Personally i've always liked it way more than MK and just as much as i liked SF. It deserves to be far more popular than it is nowadays.

Yea i always loved seeing that as a kid back in the day, sort of a SamSho/Fatal Fury crossover. Even tho canonically it makes zero sense since Mai obviously wasn't around in feudal japan, lol. I think she appears in Gen-An's ending too.

Definitely disagree with the sound part. The "music" in SS4 was almost non existent. SS1, SS2, and SS3 had the best music in the series. SS3 had the best overall presentation and atmosphere.

I never had an arcade anywhere near where I lived so I didn't grow up with these. I only got to start playing them when they were re released on ps4. I don't know if it's just because I don't have nostalgia for samsho or if it's something else but 4 is my favorite.
4 is the best, best soundtrack, best "feel". Its camera setup and effect make every attack leaves strong impact

It's been several years and I did notice for the first time that baby(SSII stage) puts an ugly demonic smirk when you're getting beat down. No wonder the game of Vampire Savior got influenced by this(Jedah's stage).

She took me 2 hours to defeat. Well, I suck at SamSho, but still it was the longest struggle against fighting game boss I ever had.

when i played samurai shodown at the arcade i had a trick to win amakusa with a perfect. All I had to do was give him the first hit then retreat and keep mashing the button. He kept jumping until the clock ended. All the people surrounding me were "WOW"...That is until the second round where he kicked my @ss lol. Good times :)

ever since SNK was being purchased by Playmore, I don't think they have made a game that I really like anymore, sad, ... the old SNK was god-like in most of their titles

Yes, yes. I love the weird balance in that game. Eventhough the kazama brothers made it to the newest title, it hasnt been the same. The bust or Rasetsu version of Kazuki, that wall bounce combo, that finisher, amazing. The shura version of Sogetsu, his heavy slash water geyser has stupid amount of +frame on block - he touch you with one of those, that round is closed.
Mizuki, Zankuro and Demon Gaoh in that order. What a triad of fuckers. Specially Mizuki.
Man I wish I could watch the same vid but on normal difficulty for some of those bosses I remember being way harder.

Nah. SC VI and SamSho are apples to oranges. It's a horizontal 2d fighter, as samsho had a lukewarm reception when they tried to go 3d arena with Zen. SC VI achieved what it wanted to be and stands by itself.

Finally third you're passing off an opinion on a game you obviously have a bias towards as fact? Holy shit get your head out of your ass lmao. SNK-SOFTMORE is basically doing what Capcom did almost 10 years before with the revamp of street fighter. 3d models, redesigns for classic characters on a 2d plane. It's like comparing guilty gear to tekken and saying 'this is how 2d tekken should play'. How would you know? It isn't a 2d game to begin with lol. SNK is attempting to update Shamsho for the modern audience - looks average but the gameplay will tell the story.
@VerumRex I feel like it's more the fact that Reversal Edge and to a far lesser extend Critical edge detract heavily from what made Soul Calibur great, in addition to being weak mechanics in terms of fighting.

Na, the other way around since they were created first. Haohmaru predates Kyo and Genjuro predates Iori.

No, that's the way he was drawn in the first game. It's somewhat weird looking back at him now. I love Amakusa, especially his SS3 and later drawings.
It really sound like Genjuro is saying "Inno-Shika-Cho" (as in the Naruto) in Samurai Shodown IV ^_^
He is. "Inoshikachō" (i.e. boar-deer-butterfly) is a winning combination in the hanafuda card game (i.e. flower cards) that both Genjuro's special moves and the Naruto series are referencing. It's comparable to something like a full house or flush in poker.
