Your point about janking on one side of your mustache making it bigger than the other is so true! I'm only a few months into mine and even then it makes a difference. Appreciate your wisdom and you taking the time to make these videos.
Hey, man, to segue from the "Worst Beard Habits" as you've accurately described in this video, to one of your BEST beard habits, (that of your mentored use of Coconut Oil as a beard conditioner, yet in another video), you're informative words are spot-on. As the proud owner of a 9 3/8" lower face mane, I've taken in all your advice. I've abated those habits you've frowned upon and have employed--and extolled-- the Conditioning of your recommendation. Not only did the Coconut oil work its magic, but my beard is looking shiny, healthy and massive as compliments flow from passers-by on a daily basis. Those catching this Man's vids: Look into his series of wisdom-infused segments. Thanks man for giving me almost Fatherly advice on how to best care for, showcase, and rock my Man mane. Big fan here, guy. 👊
Apologies for the words stricken out with a dash. They were not meant to be relayed in such a manner. I have, and will continue, to extoll your worded wisdom. Keep bearded, Men!
I want to grow a ZZ Top Beard. only because I never done it before. just big and cushy. never straight and long like the Rev. Billy Gibbons. Like the advice in your video's so I'm applying it from here on in till I get my Gibbons on. thank You for sharing.
Belonging to a Motorcycle club I spend lots of hours, 365 days a year riding. My beard is grey and hangs just below my nipple line where it just stops. Its a hard life for a beard that I take a lot of pride in. Washing, oiling and combing are the best thing I can do to keep it dapper. Thanks for the tips, they will help keep my 71 year old face and beard sexy.
For my wash days i use Dr.Bronners all natural castile soap, just makes it nice and clean and "resets" it. I do this about 2-3 days out of the week. For the other days i do a VERY light lather of a handmade bar soap whose main ingredients are Rosemary and Tea Tree oil. With the other beard maintenance tips you have given through your videos, my beard is nice, healthy, full, and soft as can be. I keep it at around the 4months growth length to enjoy the style. Also, avoid ingredients in your soaps that have anything related to or any combination of "Laureth", "Laurel", and "Sulfate" that you use for your beard or face. These are the ingredients that make your soap nice and foamy, but they also severely dry out skin and beard hair.
yes, yes, yes... I did all these. Had no idea on how to care for my beard. Im using the wrong comb, irish spring, and shampoo. Glad I watched you video
I work in the outdoors as a wildland firefighter and other outdoor work in the forests, i chainsaw trees; felling/bucking. I can easily go weeks at a time without a shower but I always try to wash my face/neck etc. Would everyday use of beard shampoo or soap still be a bad recommendation? I can get a lot of dirt, wood chips, and, during fire season, get the smell of soot/carbon on my beard/skin.
George I use a hair cleanser and conditioner detangler 4 times a week and beard wash 3 times I use a boars brush and wash brush boss beard butter and oil. love ur work keep it up. thanks. 😎😸✌
You are AWESOME! I wanted to ask you about something. I work as a Physical Therapist, in an inpatient hospital setting. My manager allows me to grow a large beard. It is important however, because certain patients have MRSA, and other infections, that I keep myself very clean. Especially when I get home after work, I make sure to clean up very well. What is something I can cleanse my beard with every day after work, that would not do too much harm?
I've been using grandpa's pine tar soap everyday for a week now. Reason being is I apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil beforehand so I need to wash it out. My beard does get dry afterwards but I apply some coconut to my beard.
I'm LMAO about #4, playing with my beard!!! My Silver looks great, but I keep getting the darker Brown or Black, sometimes looks Red, veins of hair that takes away from the Great Silver Sultan look.... oh well, at least I'm Blessed with good hair from the shoulders up! Merry Christmas Mr Bailey!!!
I am also using extra light olive oil in my pomade can you recommend a dry oil or one that sucks in? What about argon? Do you think bees wax will clog the pores? Also I'm considering Neem oil from India because of it's antioxidant rich triterpenoid properties. Your Videoes rock by the way and I'm subscribing right now i hope to build a clientele as grand as yours some day.
I do everything you say not to along with some of what you say to do. I shower twice a day. However I oil it up heavily each time. I use a no pull brush on my initial brush out each day but i keep a boar hair brush to reshape during the day and distribute the oils. I use a variety of products but my staple is coconut oil. Pure as the driven snow. I cant stop touching and twirling it. It's almost 3 years old now, dont judge me! Lol
@@stacksonchain9320 I use it in conjunction with other oils and balms. I must be doing something right as my beard is to my belly and my hair is past my face. #gains 😂🤣
Hey bud . New subscriber here. I love ur videos! Quick question I’m a mechanic and get pretty dirty and deal with steal dust every day. I wash my beard every day should I not be doing this.
These are the best beard videos ever! (Ignore that face in the profile pic. I need to change it. I've got a medium length Santa beard now. Will be 5 or 6 inches by summer.)
I'm in the process of growing a beard so I'm no expert but one thing I can say is I'm getting a little fed up with hearing stuff like "you need to wash your beard in sacred cow milk mixed with honey and lavender and strained through magic fairy crystals from the cliffs of Dover while listening to Tori Amos". I'm exaggerating of course, but not really. Sure a beard needs some care, but we're also men, and men are rugged. I'm pretty sure Grizzly Adams didn't obsess over products and make sure to touch his beard with "open hands".
God-damn right! I haven't used shit on my beard, brushed or whatever for the longest time. Mistake. Three things I recommend: 1. Use what fucking-ever-conditioner you want on it when you shower, don't soap. 2. Brush it with whatever-the-fuck feels comfortable. 3. Beard oil that's natural is good for keeping it soft. Other than that, it's a fucking beard! it'll grow from your face if you don't shave. It's not unicorn pubes.
Did you try Tangle Teezer brush maybe? Mine beard is maybe half size your beard but I think those brushes doing pretty good job. I would like to know your opinion
Hey George, long time viewer, first time commenter. I wanted to drop by and say that Grizzly Jack's beard brush is the best brush I've ever put through my beard. I strongly recommend getting your hands on one for a review.
Hey there! Im trying the yeard thing, I started in around June this year. I wanted to ask your thoughts on Cremo brand beard and scruff softener and there beard and scruff cream? As I have been using them for awhile now and now sure if I should continue to use them or not sense I'm fairly new to the beard thing especially beard products! Let me know and thanks for the great video.
Hey Gray Bailey I was wondering, I have a short beard. There isn't much length, I grow it and trim it to the point that it is full and there is no thin patches but that's about it. I have read that you should oil (depending on the weather you are in) every 4 hours or so just to keep your skin hydrated and hair healthy on your face. What I currently do is I wake up and do my facial care routine, brush my teeth and whatnot and shower and then I pat-dry my beard, I apply oil and then use my Boar Bristle brush to tame the hairs. I apply my oil at this point and before bed 100% and maybe once in between morning and night but each time I am using my brush to brush my beard so I am brushing it 2-3x a day. Not for long, maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute total each brush. Is that too much brushing because if I don't brush after applying oil during the mid day (in between morning and bed time) then my hair looks messed up and I go to the gym middle of the day and I apply oil after I shower there so my question is, how many times should I brush my beard and tame the hairs. How many 1 minute brushing sessions is too much?
"dont wash beard everyday". Bro, I work in a wood/steel fabrication shop. I HAVE to wash it every day to get all the particles out. I can smell metal when the hot water hits my beard.
My beard is a few inches shorter than yours and I use selson blue twice a week and all natural beard oil. I still use a brush, but have been loosing some hair and get dry skin at the bottom of my chin. What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to grow to your length. Yours looks great btw.
So a question for you. I'm constantly getting sawdust, concrete dust, drywall dust, hardy plank dust, and regular dust from digging foundations, and sweat (114 degrees summers here) in my beard do you still suggest not washing it? I'm weary of all of the construction debris in my beard. I feel like I have to wash it every day just to keep clean. What do you suggest for construction workers with beards? I know this is an old video but I'd love some guidance.
Combing and co-washing could go a long way for you. You could bump up using a beard wash/pine tar soap/etc. to 2-3 days a week. Just pay attention to your beard. All of the things you've listed that you get in your beard can have a drying effect, so if you use a soap that's also drying your hair out, you'll regret it quickly. Rinsing that stuff out and/or using conditioner every day should help keep the beard clean. You'll have to do some experimenting to find the right balance between keeping as much dust out as possible and keeping the beard moisturized enough.
I'm too lazy to search for beard maintenance products so i use convenience store-bought baby shampoo. Is it safe enough to not dry my skin and is it strong enough to clean my beard? Is it a viable alternative? I only use it 1-2 times a week, my skin is very oily so i try to clean my beard as often as possible.
I get like a sore or something (not a pimple not a grown in hair) but a small sore spot under my beard on the front part of my chin. (not under) And no i do not play with my beard. So what can i use to stop this.
I've got a problem I was my beard near everyday but I'm a carpenter and my beard is a small to medium size so I'm getting all sorts of dust and shavings in my beard, what do I do ? Do I only wash it with shampoo once or more ?
goodesean sometimes just a good rinse is fine for days your not getting it dirty from work. on days you need to wash it I'd recommend a beard conditioner for most of the week and a beard shampoo for only two days of the week. I personally condition my beard every other day or every two days, with one or two shampoos a full week. but if I'm not shampooing or conditioning I give it a good rinse before applying more products.
I just use baby shampoo once a week. Condition every other day and use my Kent comb. I like a few beard oils that are on the market but will also use coconut oil. I actually made a video about that a few years back...be sure to check it out on my channel. I just subscribed....really like your content! I plan on making a series of videos myself along with a little vlogging. Awesome beard by the way!!

If you want a nice soft beard or stach, vasoline and some heat from a blow dryer, then a good wash.
I need to use a very fine comb to get the wax combed through my moustache. Otherwise it cakes up and looks like stache dandruff.
