Correction on the goalscorers record. It can be broken by Paolo Guerrero of Peru and also Eduardo Vargas of Chile who both have 1 more goal than Messi and are on the provisional squads for this years Copa
As a Mexico fan I cannot wait to enjoy this 16 team Copa America tournament and then go back to the freaking Gold Cup next year and play against Guadalupe and Cuba. I hope they’d stay with this Copa America format forever.
It’s a shame though.. Mexico gets to play with the easiest teams since they just play with central America countries so they always go to the World Cup because it’s so easy for them to win against Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, etc. If Mexico was a country apart of South America they wouldn’t be so great.
@@Im_michi if Mexico played in Conmebol FIFA would’ve given them more than the 4.5 tickets they had to give out. Having said that yes Mexico wouldn’t be an almost shoe in for every World Cup like we’ve been but I promise you we would be doing way better than Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru at the very least. Look at the USA who couldn’t qualify for Russia. CONCACAF is easier yes but it’s not piss easy either.
Of course you would wish that. But South America doesn’t. The tournament was already compromised enough with a few invited guests because CONMEBOL wanted more money. Opening the door even more for CONCACAF teams just lowers the level of the competition and loses the integrity of the tournament as a South American championship. Disgraceful.
@@hitthurdeaux Brazilian here. I would much rather prefer CONCACAF's best teams be permanent members of the Copa America instead of us inviting Israel or AFC teams like Qatar, Australia, and Japan.
it’s insane how the entire goal record point is about Messi and Guerrero is just “another guy who could do it” despite literally having one more goal and being a striker, meaning his chances to break it are higher
Guerrero was a great player in his prime, especially when he was at Corinthians. But tbh his form isn't too great anymore, he will struggle in the Copa.
No, they're not higher on paper. One player is from Peru, not a power team but one that could be eliminated early. The other is from the current World Champion, heavy favorites to reach finals. I'm not saying Guerrero can't do it, but saying he has more chances is ignoring reality.
@nahuelcosta5609 It's just very hard to score in Copa for some reason. Messi was top scorer in 2021 with 4. In 2016, top scorer was 3. Its just very low scoring.
