Honestly, I wasn't amazed by the Harmonic Pedal through all your videos but that passage from 3:12 to 3:37... Being able to play triplets without the sustain pedal and not sounding dry is just amazing ! Awesome performance !
This was incredible. If I had only seen the score without hearing you play the piece, I would have thought it was impossible to play it with such precision, at such a speed and with so many subtle dynamics. I'm so glad you're on RUclips!
I was working while listening to a YT classical piano mix in the background. I had never heard this piece before, but after a couple minutes of listening I thought "This must be Paul Barton" and switched windows to check. Yup. He is just as distinctive as the greats a yore.
Fantastic! As a child I learned a simple version of this piece and it stayed with me. I'm now getting back to playing (in my 60's) and want to learn this version which would be a challenge. I found a simpler version that I am teaching myself. Love it!
I like Ritter's version (this one) much more than Liszt's. In Liszt's, every climax is just buried under all the needless decorations. This one's just as complex, yet its point is much clearer.
The Computer Dude yes totally Liszt was great but i prefer the more "original" version as well (for me it sounds much more like the original piece for orchestra)
Great! I was looking for a version like this on youtube, more true to Saint Saens composition than the Liszt arrangement, although Lizst's is very beautiful in its own way.
Songs to me are easy. I have seen many pieces, this one amazed me. I think this would be a challenge. You played beautifully. This piece represents me. Wow
No offense, I enjoy the music a lot. But it's pretty clear that a heavy amount of editing was done for this video... a bit after 7:00 you can clearly hear that the trill is being played at the same time as the very high notes and bass octaves, which is physically impossible...

Thanks for this - took the Cramer score along to my piano lesson the other week! My teacher hadn't seen it in years, and I'm having lots of fun bashing through it!
very well played Paul, been subscribed for quite some time now and I think you have just got better and better - this was excellent but I would love to hear you tackle the Horowitz arrangement of this piece. It's a devilishly difficult piece but when played well, it's absolutely spell-binding!
wow. this harmonic pedal is definitely a part of the future of piano playing in my op. too bad feurich is not that well known. perhaps steinway will see the potential of this pedal and buy the patent?? who knows...
I Loved to play this on my viola!! Much more elaborate than I am used too lol but same feel lol. Reminds me of "Rake It In" by Imogen Heap. Just love it :D Great job playing as well!
A performance so great my headphones can't even keep up! (Terrible distortion at a volume of anything more than 40%) Edit: Seeing this a year later and I realize some people might think I am taking a dig at the video... I'm not. I'm just sad I can't bump the volume ;-;
Listening back, I'm actually pretty skeptical this is a human performance. 2:45-3:45 or so sounds very much like how a digital piano would produce some of those passages. Would explain the bug at the end of the piece.
@Charlemagne bottom staff plays D-flat tremolo. This instantly makes statement “Gs in BOTH hands” untrue. And top staff is octave lover. Nothing impossible.
Erik Tjahja Hi Erik - I have 2 harmonic pedal channels, on the English language channel: ruclips.net/user/Harmonicpianopedal the harmonic pedal is fully explained. Thanks for your interest.
omg, i enjoyed this more than i would like to admit.. thank you so much for this. i just adore this piece.. if i may ask, as a liszt admirer, will you do his transcription as well :D pretty please :)
Paul, at 7:04 the trill continues in the middle registers with melodies both high up and in the lower registers. How was this possible? Was this a 4 hand performance?
I think the hands where recorded separately and then mixed together. I have a great respect for P. Barton , but I also see his technical limitations. This piece is over his level.
Mistake or no mistake, how does he do it? Notes would be two octaves a stretch for either hand whether he decides to take the trill in left or right hand. I think he is recording over and mixing tracks.
Trying to follow along, the pages always change too soon! Excluding the Liszt/Horowitz version (really can't stand them!) are there different solo piano versions of this piece? I know there's an "easy play" version, not counting that either. I've seen some of the video tutorials of this on RUclips and I can't help but think they're leaving some notes out.
Interesting. After 10 years of no practice on the piano, this was the second piece I played followed by the piano arrangement of “Howl’s Moving Castle Theme.” I don’t think it’s entirely true that you need to dedicate your whole life to the piano.
@@haaggus fun fact: most of the HRs are easy in technical difficulty also chopin etudes are mainly about technique...so even the etudes are not insane apart from few like op25 no6 or op10 no4
Hi Paul. This sounds amazing and thanks for linking the sheet music. I don’t have this pedal though. Is it possible to just play it with the regular sustain pedal?
Paul this is one of the most incredible performances I have ever heard.
I don’t think ye played it
3:13 - 3:45 HOW SO BUBBLY? Seriously that's amazing. One of my favourite things I've heard ever.
4:33 goodness gracious, that's gotta be the *MOST BEAUTIFUL* run I've ever seen HOLYYY

You love this composition. We feel it! Thanks a lot.
The first omissions did add that extra sense of doom, with the space u gave it
An absolute masterpiece of Saint-Saëns in a great transcription for piano.
Your playing is breathtaking, Paul, Thanks for posting it!!
Truly amazing pedaling, dynamics, and staccatos, one of the best Performances I have ever heard.
So Crisp
and clear 5:55
Wow....this is a spectacular piece and you play it to absolute perfection, absolute mastery...bravo
bravissimo sehr schön.¨!!!!!!!!

Linda, What is the edition and where did you get your simpler version? I used to teach piano and want to start playing again.
I like Ritter's version (this one) much more than Liszt's. In Liszt's, every climax is just buried under all the needless decorations. This one's just as complex, yet its point is much clearer.
The Computer Dude I totally agree, it is the one time that I feel Liszt transcription was inferior
The Computer Dude yes totally Liszt was great but i prefer the more "original" version as well (for me it sounds much more like the original piece for orchestra)
The Computer Dude I strongly agree
I still prefer the orchestra, this piece in the piano feels empty somehow.
Indeed, I mean, decoration is not bad, but it mustn't be used to such an extent that it takes from the pleasure of music.
Incredible performance.
This looks even more brutal than it sounds. You're underrated Paul!
A pure delight to listen to your music and performance! You really brings her music to life.
Amazing job Paul Barton 👆😀🎧
wow, Paul, you recorded so many things. You're a genius!

Amazing - what a fireworks piece of marvel! It sound fun played with your fervent energy !!!
I can just feel the madness of dancing skeletons in the moonlight, bravo!
wonderful musicality & musical storytelling!!!!!!
OMG just found this! Unbelievable good!
Wonderful, following the score, I was lost, but very impressed with its complexity...lol
Incredible! No idea ho you managed to play some of that.
Wow that's great. I love the playing, the interpretation, the annotated score, everything.
Lindíssima e difícil bravo.👏👏👏👏
Wspaniałe wykonanie! Najlepsze jakie słyszałam! Brawo👏
Wow. Such clean playing yet not sounding at all dry. :) Bravo!
This is one of the most intense pieces of music I have ever heard. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing.
A real professional
COMPLETELY MAGNIFICENT - A true TOUR-DE-FORCE!!!!
Oh, Paul! Thanks so much for sharing your music with us! This is exquisite.
Incredible !!!!!! It's phenomenal !!!!!
This is overwhelming, Paul, brilliantly played!!
Lovely arrangement, I'd love to see a video of your hands with the chromatic scales and the octave scales!

this truly was gorgeous, you can see the hard work it took to play so beautifully in every single note. Bravo!
Que interpretação maravilhosa!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Peça de grande dificuldade. Execução magnífica. Parabéns.

Incredible performance of this master piece !
I wish we could see the DVD version with the video !
Best arrangement on RUclips
So amazing I cant believe. Wow
OMG WONDERFUL!
Loved the performance and the scrolling music! Makes me want to give it a try!
Still listening
Such an amazing piece
Merveilleux

This seems an insane pedal work...
This is an incredible preformance, liked it a lot!
Hey Paul, any chance we might get to see a video of this performance? (please)
Yesssssss
Dude!! This song is my jam
Bridget its not a song, its a piece
Bridget hells yeah is mine too!!
Joehoep Pjeters oh give it a rest haha I've heard major composers refer to their music as songs :) ur not special ❤️
Breathtaking!
Looks pretty straight forward. Must be a beginner piece.
Amazzzzzzing!!!!!!
This is a fantastic performance!
que recuerdo de mi padre tocando esta obra!!

So awesome!
My only wish was for the triple forte to become bigger. Maybe the recording device wasn’t able to pick that up.
Fabulous!

too bad feurich is not that well known. perhaps steinway will see the potential of this pedal and buy the patent?? who knows...
Super! thx again
Mind boggling. I will never learn to play like this. I'd better ask Elisa on which street she lives!
This truly is a great piece of music, played amazingly! Again, ThU

Amazing
Lovely!
Heeeey. This arrangement is pretty guuud ;)
와 너무 좋아..
Im confused, so is this someone actually playing a piano? Or is this is an automated system doing the work somehow?
Paul fantastic, very macabre! :-)
amazing!

How is the tremolo at around 7:03 still being played when the Gs comes in for both hands? That doesn't seem physically possible.
I don't think it is possible. Maybe he got a friend to play the final notes!
Listening back, I'm actually pretty skeptical this is a human performance. 2:45-3:45 or so sounds very much like how a digital piano would produce some of those passages. Would explain the bug at the end of the piece.
Nothing suspicious ay that place at all. And no Ges in both hands too.
@Charlemagne bottom staff plays D-flat tremolo. This instantly makes statement “Gs in BOTH hands” untrue. And top staff is octave lover. Nothing impossible.
Very suspicious of this tremolo as well. Something is going on here that would require a 3rd hand. Concert pianist here.
Un capolavoro
I loved your performance! I found this version much more clearer than lizst's- is there a way to find this in a MIDI file?
Amazing😍
Hi Paul, what do you mean by the 4th harmonic pedal? Im curious about how to create the resonance
Erik Tjahja Hi Erik - I have 2 harmonic pedal channels, on the English language channel: ruclips.net/user/Harmonicpianopedal the harmonic pedal is fully explained. Thanks for your interest.
5:49 this part always gives me chills
omg, i enjoyed this more than i would like to admit.. thank you so much for this. i just adore this piece.. if i may ask, as a liszt admirer, will you do his transcription as well :D pretty please :)
wow, looking forward to the CD :)
Paul, at 7:04 the trill continues in the middle registers with melodies both high up and in the lower registers. How was this possible? Was this a 4 hand performance?
If you see the sheet music you see the left hand holding the tremolo while right hand does everything else.
i noticed it too, it's as if a third hand appeared to play the trill while the left and right hands play according to the sheet.
I think the hands where recorded separately and then mixed together. I have a great respect for P. Barton , but I also see his technical limitations. This piece is over his level.
I'm talking about just the last bit of the trill when both the bass and the higher one plays simultaneously with the trill. Note exactly at 7:04.
Mistake or no mistake, how does he do it? Notes would be two octaves a stretch for either hand whether he decides to take the trill in left or right hand. I think he is recording over and mixing tracks.
Brilliant!
Fantastic! Thanks.
love it ! thank you Paul :-)

You cannot play this without having dedicated your entire life to the piano.
devilsden as someone who’s been playing for almost 15 years now this song is extremely hard, let alone to play it at this level of interpretation
Interesting. After 10 years of no practice on the piano, this was the second piece I played followed by the piano arrangement of “Howl’s Moving Castle Theme.” I don’t think it’s entirely true that you need to dedicate your whole life to the piano.
The liszt version is most hard is very harder
5 years more than enough

No se de ninguna danza macabra ,muy interesante y muy bien interprtada
Fun fact: 99.9% of comments was about the song and some parts
I thought there would be a JSAB comment
Very nice performance :)
Hi Paul. This sounds amazing and thanks for linking the sheet music. I don’t have this pedal though. Is it possible to just play it with the regular sustain pedal?
