In this free drum lesson, I want to teach you the main parts from the song "Barracuda" by Heart featuring Michael DeRosier on drums.
This is a real lesson in showmanship. The song is packed with very cool grooves and drum fills requiring quite a high level of skill to perform. You may also notice a lot of licks that were definitely influenced by the great John Bonham!

I have been playing for over 40 years, many years playing rock covers in clubs.
This is not an easy song to learn!
Oh my gosh I'm only a couple minutes in and I already love your teaching style! *subscribed*
Thank you very much. Glad you are enjoying my lesson! :)
Hey this is very good. I'm a professional and this helped me immensely! Even though it seems simple, the coordination and all things considered become easier once you see it written out.
Thanks!
Bucket of fish.
Great fill.....
Love the teaching style. Would love to hear you on an acoustic set..
Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for, and the drum notation will help (once I relearn how to read music 🙂 )
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much for posting this. I wanted to learn this song. You show how it's done better than me listening by ear because I'm not sure what's going on in the song. I don't read sheet music 😨 but that's the best way to go.🤭
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the lessons. I've been working on Goin Down by the monkees. It's fast and jazzy. Would love them see a lesson on that.
Brilliant, well done! Your talents are well appreciated! Subscribed!
Nice breakdown of this awesome drum work! I must say I don't think I've ever seen the right hand playing hi-hat (controlling it with your right foot) while the left foot is on the kick drum. Are you by chance ambidextrous? Is that just what felt best to you while learning to play? If I were to try that arrangement I think my brain would explode and my playing would probably sound like a toddler jumping up and down on my pedals. LOL
Ha! Yeah, I'm left handed but play with my right hand...but then play open handed on top of that. It's a weird set up, but it works for me. Thanks for your kind words!
Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand" has a similar grove. 😀
😕 Wish you would have played the whole song!
With the complete music!!
It would be really great if you could do a lesson on Hey Jude.
This is really great, But I don´t know if it´s wrong in the notation or Im doing wrong, because I can´t get the second part that starts at 0:32 i dont get the 5/4 to line up according to the version on spotify. It seems like the 5/4 a bit later
It's probably my time stamp that's a bit out. The 5/4 is there, I promise :)

Hey Rob,
I came across your Barracuda video ans wanted to know (since you are playong E-Drums) what hi hat are you using in the vid?
Thanks and hope is all well!!
Hi Charles. It's the hi-hat that came with the kit. I forget the model number but this was Roland's flagship kit about 5 years ago. Hope that helps and thanks for your interest!

You're a right hand player so why is your kick on your left foot? Tad odd, no?

Your accent is super annoying,... but you know what yr talking about & you play well,..I just subscribed. 😎👍🇺🇲
Luckily I don't need people like you to subscribe to my channel, so feel free to unsubscribe any time you like. 😎👍
What an asinine comment to advertise your stupidity.
Oh honey, you can slow down the speed of the video so your brain can catch up if you'd like 👏
I actually like his accent, but then my grandmother was from England. 🙂
