I had shelved a draft idea 2 years ago, but it kept gnawing at me. After COVID and then for a year working on a weekly article I am working on my draft and determined to finish it. Love your channel and been watching for quite some time. I am pretty excited about finishing my draft this year; so far 4000 words into it. I just have to fight against the distraction and loved the Alphawriter review you had. Thanks for all you do.....

You know what I’ve started a few then gave up on them after like ten to fifteen thousand words. I’ve started another one but I’ve planned it out and I’ll finish this one for sure. I’m using this video to help me keep going.
That's awesome! I think you're already on the right track, so definitely keep going. It's such a cool feeling to hold your finished draft in your hands, and it will make you want to write even more books 😊
Shockingly, I'm at the 30,000 word mark and think my story is crap. But it's better than when I was thinking it was crap at 25,000
And you will probably continue to think so at various other milestones. But after you finish it, set it aside for at least a few weeks, and when you come back to it with fresh eyes one of two things will probably happen: you will suddenly see how great it is and be mad at your former self for thinking it was crap, or you will agree that it is pretty bad, but there are some great bits in there too, and those are worth working on, which will motivate you to go back and work on it. And honestly, that's how you get to a great book, rewriting and revising.

It absolutely is! And the smaller tips seem easy enough for anyone to do, so it's less intimidating to hear, but as you say, they can bring about great results 😊

Honestly though, I find I work better under *some* pressure, just a matter of finding the right balance between not enough stress/pressure and too much, at least for me.
Totally agree with you on the value of setting good habits and routines. I've started writing an hour or so in the morning before work, as I've found waiting till end of day means I'm typically low on energy and motivation, so I procrastinate on it. However, I'm obviously not going to procrastinate on my work if I move it up an hour, cause I'm accountable to other people. Just like writing buddies make you accountable to others, changing my schedule and habits has really made me more productive.
I'm hoping to write my novel this year. Currently finishing a collection of short stories that let me experiment with ideas and now I'm looking forward to a proper novel, so this was very timely. Thanks once again Iasmina!
Absolutely, it's about finding the right thing that works for you. Working in the morning before the day job is also a great idea, I've tried it a few times myself and it was a productive time. But honestly most days I'd rather sleep that extra hour, but if I wake up naturally then I go and work on my books for a bit before the job and feel much better about the day knowing I've already worked towards my goals. I usually work in the evenings as a rule, but as you also said, it's a hit or miss on energy and motivation.
This video is so good thank youuu but I just noticed that your vocal editing didn't match that much with the video it can be a little bit hard to watch but besides thattt thanksss for the tipsss I love Them !
😅 That doesn't sound right...my editing software matches the video with the audio clip automatically, and I didn't notice any lag while editing. If you mean the overlay clips I insert sometimes, those are just extra clips from old vlogs, they're not meant to match the audio. Either way, sorry if you didn't have a nice experience watching it, but I'm glad you liked the content!😊

I’m writing a slasher book and as I’ve failed at writing a book before I’ve set a modest min goal of 40,000 words and am writing just 120 worlds a day. Just far that is working.
That's great! It's not a race, the important thing is to get there, and as long as it's working for you and you're making progress, that's awesome 😊

Can I ask you a question ? Are you more of a Tolkien like classical fantasy reader or more gritty morally grey modern fantasy reader ?
I like both! Though I do read more modern fantasy than classic style, I definitely enjoy both types, it just depends what I'm in the mood for at the time 😊
Great video as always and thank you for the suggestions. I like the idea of trying different writing locations. In the city where I live there is a reading room in the central library which is awesome for writing in, although it was shut down for a long time due to the pandemic. Have you ever tried writing in a public place such as a coffee shop or a bar? I don't know if I'd feel too self conscious and/or pretentious doing so.
I love writing in cafes or libraries! But since the panini of course I haven't gotten the chance to do it, and I don't think I have any clips of me writing in public because one thing I am self conscious of is filming myself in public 😅. But writing in places like that can feel like a little treat to yourself, or some time away where you can be productive and enjoy the sights/drinks at the same time, so I definitely recommend trying it! No one around you should care what you are there to do, they see you working on something and they won't bother you.

Thanks so much for your video! What are your thoughts on dictation software? I am somewhat ADD and found it invaluable when I was doing papers in college. Do you have any videos on the subject?
I am actually trying it out properly for the first time with a new drafting project, and I will have a video out at some point about it! Still new to it but I am intrigued and am wondering if it can help my productivity. I know lots of writers swear by dictation 😊

I am a newbie to book writing and look forward to learning and using Scrivener thanks to your "How to" video 😀 I just tried this out: On a Mac you can go to System Preferences>Keyboard>Dictation enable Dictation on and in Scrivener just hit the Fn key twice and the mic pops up and it works fine. I need this as even though I am in IT for 40 years, I am still a slow typer/bad speller. Many times I lose my perfect sentence (insert your favorite swear word!!!) before I write it down. I look forward to your video. Your videos and you are such a ray of positivity that it is infectious. Thanks again!!
@@breezlee59 I know about the dictation feature in Scrivener, but I haven't tried it yet so can't say how good it is. That's also part of what I want to explore in that upcoming vlog, different dictation software/apps and which one works best. Hope to find a good one 😊
