  • Jonathan Mooney was always the slow kid in class. Called 'stupid' and 'lazy' most of his life, he believed that because he was different, he was deficient. His inspiring redemption story will make you reignite the flames that burn within you and find your gift.

Goalcast you can imagine how much I loved this video. I work with students who have special needs and "certain disabilities"... Sometimes they can't just believe in themselves just because they feel different... I'd love to know if it is possible to have this video subbed in Spanish... I know my kids would cherish it and be moved.
      Thanks for this video!

I’ve lived with ADHD all my life. I would get in trouble in school all the time and my grades were poor. I felt stupid. It was so bad that I didn’t have the confidence to go to college after I graduated. I remember being 25 & working a dead-end job. During a lunch break, while in a book store, I overheard someone who was my age stated that he had just finished his MBA. That was the turning point. The next week I went and did research on top professions for people who have ADHD and it was Marketing.
At age 25, I went back to school and graduated with two degrees.
At 36, I now make a six-figure salary in marketing.
The two things I learned: age is just a number & ADHD is just an acronym.

I have dyslexia. I have never struggled in school. I have learned to read and spell pretty good. New words are still hard to read fast, but that doesn't affect me negatively anymore, I'm used to it. If I didn't tell anyone I have dyslexia no one would notice, my teachers and my friends they didn't know. They didn't even believe me at when I said I had it at first. Everyone is different, dyslexia doesn't stop you. You just have to think differently, instead of letting my brain go crazy when I read I chose to ignore the letters around the letter I'm reading. That way I don't see wrong or read wrong. Still sometimes it happens that I jump over a word or letter, but it's ok. No one is perfect but everyone is good enough. We all just have to find our own strengths❤

Jonathan Mooney overcame so may obstacles and graduated from an Ivy League University with English Literature. For a person that was in special ed, should definitely inspire a lot of students with "learning differences" that if they put in the work, bigger things will happen. He definitely put in the work! I use to be a special ed student, and I was ridiculed by my peers and some teachers. But, I had many people that believed in me. I wouldn't be who I am today, if it wasn't the teachers that believed in me. I hope this video goes over 1 million+ views.

Elementary school was a nightmare for me. Most of the people used to doubt me back then and treated me differently because I was autistic. Everyone knew that and it negatively affected my life. I did really bad at school where I didnt get honour roll. All I got were 60s and low 70s. Today I'm in grade 12 and I have an 81 average. I'm trying to improve to reach my full potential to become a computer engineer. I'm hoping I can get into a good university after high school. Till this day, I know most people are jealous and still think the same about me. I always look back at my past and use it as motivation.

Now I could say that it's because of my teachers and it very well could be because I haven't had the greatest teachers, but I'm not one to make excuses. I could say that maybe I'm just bad at math and that's just the way I am, but I'm not just going to settle with "I'm just bad at math" Why let that become a reality and let that become what I preserve myself as? In fact I had a really hard time with primary school maths but I caught up quickly with secondary school maths. I went on to do an A level and eventually a diploma in maths, and am currently studying maths with the open university distance learning.

Education is not about counting down the Degrees but the set-up has exactly like this where they don't look at who you are. Until you don't prove but somebody who has knowledge or they has the ability to find knowledge whatever your circumstances find knowledge from them. It's not easy nothing is easy and no one is exceptional if they really give up by following the comments of others. True education or being truly educated is to realise what is your honour internally. The terms and policy of this world it will, or they will ask for the certificate, but in life and keep your heart there.

I had a really hard time in my junior years; in high school, so i decided to myself that i would just give up lose all my grades and lay in my bed watching tv. My mom did nothing and gave up shortly after i quit school, i failed every single class and i could never go to school for more then 2 days a week if that. I asked my mom could i just finally drop out and try to get a job. She looked at my called me a failure and it felt like school was nothing. when i entered my senior years i promised that i would try one week and i did. bad news came they wanted me in the office and they said look your probably not gonna pass normal high school and gave me a booklet school number to call. I keep saying every day “just one more”

I’m dyslexic and currently in college now and my anxiety is sky high right now. I have never pushed myself this far and it’s getting to me. I had a professor laugh at my face in front of the class because I flipped words and i started panicking. I hate feeling stupid in a classroom full of smarter people.

It makes me frustrated that my parents get mad at me when I don’t go to school, not because I’m lazy, I’m scared of interaction I have anxiety. It’s so hard to be secure with myself, I could be doing worse I could be smoking weed, doing dugs, selling my body, drinking.... but I stay home because I can’t physically get up I lost motivation because they just tell me I’m a disappointment. I’m the youngest in family and I have to be reminded by my devil sister that I should kill myself and how I have no future. I always have hope in me but I can’t physically get movin and idk what it is. Things like this video give me hope

Only you can truly know yourself and if you say you believe in yourself, then you know you’ll pull through somehow. The first move is always the hardest and most pivotal point to start your journey. You’ve got this, keep your head up! I believe in you stranger 💪
