  • I feel so silly doing this, but so many of you have asked about my classroom this year. Check out a tour around my new kindergarten room and take a look at how we are implementing flexible seating and what all I got from my Donors Choose grant.

*Update - 89,000+ views??? Wow! I can't believe this! I totally did this on a whim one night so friends and family could see my room, especially those that donated to my project through Donor's Choose. I haven't checked in on this video since then, and I am floored by the response. To answer a few questions...
Why am I whispering? Well it was the weekend of the first week of school, the middle of pollen/allergy season in South Georgia, and I was coming off of vocal rest because I had absolutely no voice. I lose it in the fall and spring of every year.
Do I make other videos, have a teacher blog, etc? Absolutely not. That's just not my jam. I admire all of the amazing teachers that do all of that, but it's just not me! Again, this was TOTALLY an on the whim thing that I posted for close friends and family (hence the no make up look, hat, and super casual narration!). If anything this is a great lesson on how what you post on line is never really private and there is no telling how far it might spread.
Where do I teach, how long, etc? I teach at an elementary school in South Georgia. I have been at this school for 6 of my 9 years teaching, but in this district for my entire career. I've taught kindergarten EIP, pre-K, one year of 4th grade, five years of 2nd grade, and now this is my first year as a kindergarten homeroom teacher.
Did my school provide any of this? No, as far as funding is concerned, the school didn't provide anything extra for the decor and flexible seating. All of the tables and student desks are school property, but everything else is my personal furniture and such. I have an EXTREMELY supportive administration at my school that got behind me 100% and let me have free reign in my classroom, but all of the money to set up this year came out of pocket (about $1,000) or through my Donor's Choose project (wobble stools, yoga balls, and clip boards).
