Congrats on the new kite! A couple tips, "Let it out till it luffs, then you pull it back in, thats how you know you've got proper sail trim." is a nice rhyme to remember for all sails especially the kite. We have a dedicated spinnaker trimmer who is constantly slowly easing the kite till the luff curls then pulling in a couple inches of sheet, just keeping the edge of the luff curling. They are also talking to the heelm if they loose pressure to have them drive a little closer to the wind or bear away if they have plenty of pressure. I'd also rig a lazy sheet around the forestay so you can jibe w/o having to douse, re-run the sheet and set again.
Flying a kite without the main up is dangerous, because the tricky part is always to get the sail down when the breeze picks up. And then it’s nice to be able to collapse the kite behind the main.
You guys(gals) look sooo geeked. It's awesome. You will grow to adore that sail. I use mine more than my genoa. Great first deployment BTW. Next step, learning to jibe it. Fun stuff
Wow! That is so awesome! I've never flown a sinnaker of any kind on my boat. From your demonstration, it looks like it is pretty easy. I've seen symetrical spinnakers go up and looks difficult with the spinnaker pole and guy lines.
Congrats on getting that sail up and working; again, that water is such a pretty blue and looks to be clear.. you should throw a line out to see if you can catch a fish ;-)
You forgot one of the most important things, hoisting your main. Hoist the spinnaker in lee of the main and lower it in lee of the main too.. less pressure on the asym. Anyways, nice blue waters and sailing!
Thanks! Yes, it's asymmetrical. On camera, it might look symmetrical because of the wide angle and the MASSIVE size. When we sock it up, it's clear to see the asymmetrical shape as the clew hangs way out until the very end of the sock.
LOL...that question makes us laugh because it has been quite comical how big it is when stowed!! We only recently figured out how to get it to a reasonable size when stowed. We keep in our cabin at the foot of the bed...makes a good back rest when reading a book!
Question, I am in the begining of trying to see if i got what it takes to get into sailing. I never see anyone using a spinnaker, gennaker or anyrhing like it in Hawaii. Id this an Alantic thing?
I don't think so. But for quick day sails, we don't hoist it. Going downwind from N America to the S Pacific would be the perfect trip for a spinnaker. We love it for low wind long trips.

Thanks for the tips 🙌 we love playing with it and figure it all out!

This 👍

LOL...yes we were/are geeked!!! We hope to get better and be able to handle in the teens!
Great job! I was excited cause you were so excited! I think you can do it single handed now!
YAY! 🙌

Thanks! It's a joy to fly!
Man, I love the way you guys learn 💪💪💪
Thx 🙏😊

We have a G2 gennaker on our Jeanneau 39. We can get 4.5 knots in 5-6 knots of breeze sailing at around 120". They are great light weather sails.
So cool. I guess an G2 is designed for the light air deeper angles. Is that how it's designed?
@@TheFosterJourney That's how we use it. It has a bit of depth and use it broad reaching.
Wow that sounds fast for 5-6 knots of wind, super cool.
So effin cool!!!! It's beautiful 😍
Thanks!!
We love our spinnaker !!

That's a good tip 👍 we were so afraid of screwing something up on our first time, lol, we only wanted to deal with one sail
Hi, friend. Beautiful images. Are you sure it is an Asymmetrical Spinnaker? It looks like a symmetrical.
Greetings

@@TheFosterJourney Ok. Thanks for answering
beautiful Spinniker! So were do you store it when not in use?

@@TheFosterJourney thank you so much for the information and replying so quick.
How to fly a spin. Whats up is down and whats down is up. But only in the horizontal plane. Hope this helps.
what boat is this? the cat 387?
Yes, a Catalina 387
Gennaker doesnt use spinnaker pole. Spinnaker has 2 Clews, no tack
Nothing quite like shutting off the noisemaker
Yes, I know...I felt bad for the video that it was on while we were raising the sail.
@@TheFosterJourney Wasn't bad on the video, just saying that's the magical moment every time when you're actually there.
an Asymmetrical Spinnaker is not a gennaker
How so?
