    What works for me, everything you said. I also grab the saddle horn, push, pull. The horse places the feet wide, enabling a solid base for mounting. Good video Amigo.

    I forgot to add that some of us are vertically challenged and it not as easy trying to climb into a saddle of a horse that tries to walk off with you before you are mounted.

    Awesome advise. Been having both problems with one of the saddle fit also possible to thick of a saddle blanket. And or the saddle. And walking while trying to mount. Backing up rearing her head. As if she is in pain. Checked her back. For pain. She never acted this way before. Complete trained roping Mare.

    Another good way to teach a horse not to walk off is to do lateral flexing and backing up. They both help to get your horse soft on the bit

    I have a horse that every time I go to get on he turns his back hips away and continues in a circle around me. how do I keep him to stay there? ive been told to use a hobble on his back legs until I can get on and off without him moving, but I don't like that technique. what do u suggest?

      Pull the slack in on your away-from-you (far-side) rein, this will push his near hip closer toward you.

    Can we see this with a horse that is not standing still while trying to mount??

  • @jerrywald6481
    @jerrywald6481 2 года назад

    Good stuff. You can also grab the horn and push and pull it until he adjusts and says "hey you can't move me" also I would put the lead rope on my left hip though the belt so it doesn't end up in the way when you get on. Cheers Jer

    One of my horses not only tries to move away from she also threatens to bite. I have to use a mounting block to get on her. I have raised this mare and not once has she bitten me or anyone. Could it be the saddle hurting her that makes her act like that?

      Had an issue with that, chiropractic adjustment did wonders

  • @Lascajet1
    @Lascajet1 9 лет назад

    Is there a reason you have your get down on your right side? When you mount it is across your body and you must adjust it over your buckin rolls.

    My horse is just leave broke and when I am walking him he tries to run up in front of me I've tried stopping him and we going pulling his head back putting pressure on his head I cannot figure out what will make us horse stop

  • @Bekahsassy

    Ha! So what do you do if a horse backs up, instead of walking off? Like my horse, he backs up a step, just so it's difficult for me to get on. I just wanted to know what I can do to fix this without working him so hard or moving his feet. Moving his feet means nothing to him, it's like he's laughing at me or something. I make him turn left, right, back up disengage his hind end left and right, I do a few exercise on the ground. I even lunge him turning him each way, but dam do I have a freaking stubborn horse or what! Today, he decided that I wasn't going to lunge him so he stood still and I got firm with him, that meant nothing. So I threw in the towel and said ok. I just took him for a walk after down the hill and back up to the barn. Than I got on him and walked and trot, and he listened, but with hesitation. Oh, let me add that he's a 17 H, Alpha 1,300 lb horse that has a thunder walk full of attitude.

      Something you can do is when your trying to mount him and he backs up you can take the reins and pull him forward to wear he was standing before and do that every time he backs up pull him forward to where he was standing before just to show him that he's not going to get his way and if that works reward him greatly

      @@stephaniefreeman7620 Yes, I sure did. I used a method from Warwick Schiller and it worked awesome on my Gelding. Basically what I did was when he took a step back, I made him circle in small circle taking him by the reins, well apparently he hates to circles, within 5 days I was able to get on him without a problem.

    OH YOU SUCK!!!! just kiddin! Read my whole comment, and you will understand... Hee hee hee... This is the first of your videos I've watched, and I thought, OH MAN it would be SO cool if this guy lived where I live (I live south of the rimrocks if you know what I mean) because I would love to try riding a horse, but for some reason have had a hard time finding someone close by who does that... So I go to your website and read about you and SON OF A GUN, I see, Billings Montana, and I am like, what are the odds of that?!? Then I see that you have moved to Florida. What the heck!! LOL just kiddin man... Nice to see a "local" guy here on youtube!
