If you look at the percentages of homelessness of hawaiian natives in Hawai'i and then look at the number of resorts and tourist attractions, it becomes clear what happened when the US decided to annex Hawai'i, illegally mind you.

what I find interesting is that the Christian bible's 6000 years old right? A God created a garden & made the people he put in it ignorant & made it a crime for them to obtain knowledge right? Then along comes the "serpent" & tells the people that knowledge is their right & not bad at all & they should learn about the world & life & themselves & generally get an education, that their "god" is just petty & small & scared of what they'll find if they obtain knowledge.
So isn't it interesting that the 60,000 year old God/Creator of Australia is the "Rainbow Serpent". Has anyone ever thought about that & thought about who the REAL God in the bible story likely is? Although I guess that would be a crime in Christianity, to think & obtain knowledge like that, wouldn't it

That is what highly noted scholar and scientist Joseph Needham of Cambridge concluded from his life's work studying this. @@xinjiangstan1233 identity politics is just a symptom of the underlying conflict of class. You notice that the oppression of native Hawaii was driven by businessmen, the government only intervening on their behalf when it benefitted them and missionaries helping that fight on a cultural battlefield. Same with the wars later on. The Spanish-American war was to generate more assets and property for Americans; the Vietnam and Korean wars were to prevent and terrorize the global working class from rising up against their oppressors. And the domestic issues of incarceration and commercialization/commodification of Hawaii itself as a tourist attraction is all in the name of reducing the native Hawaiian's right to their home and convert it into property to generate capital for American businessmen.

Anyways the point you make about it splitting societies applies to individualistic countries too, an example being the US.
All I'm saying is that people were converted from not caring about individual lands to caring about one. Before people are free to go where ever the want and lived in harmony with nature. But now, everyone lives seperated in their own domains. It's like being converted from apes to lions.

Colonization and illegally occupation are very different definitions. For example, Native Americans or Native Alaskans would be considered a colonized people because they weren't recognize as an independent nation.
On the other hand, Hawaiians got recognized by many foreign European countries thus Hawai'i gained it's independence in 1843 until the overthrow in 1893. Therefore Hawaiians do not fall under the category of colonialism.

US Navy entered Pakistan and neutralized OBL, US army killed Al-Baghdadi in Syria. What have the Indian Armed forces done about Hafiz Saeed, Dawood, and so many other terror kingpins? Surgical strikes only killed terrorist pawns while terror kingpins continue to call the shots.

@@pradeep128 India has been one of the largest contributors to the UN peacekeeping forces and missions behind Canada last time I checked. But a little known fact. Canada has the only military in the world that has received the nobel peace prize.

Hey Vox, this is very similar to what happen on Vieques in Puerto Rico. The US navy bomb Vieques for decades but they left in 2003, but thanks to decades of bombings it now has one of the highest cancer rates in Puerto Rico. Maybe you should do a video on it :)

They really glossed over the story with the disappearance of George Helm and how there was a survivor of the group.

I'm glad that the Hawaiians were able to take back their island with out violence. Only one of their freedom fighter's was killed what a amazing victory, and I pray that his soul rest in peace.

This is a super interesting video! I didn't know about the history of Kaho‘olawe until this. Will you be doing a follow-up video about Mauna kea, and the conflicts around the telescope being built there?

Mahalo Vox for taking the time to expose the reel truth behind American history. Dr. Aluli, Walter and Loretta Ritte, and many Kānaka gave their minds, hearts, and lives to protect Kahoʻolawe. Hawaiʻi is a unique environment, home to the largest number of endemic plants and animals in the world. This is how the world starts to understand. Aloha is not a casual dress shirt.

@vox Mahalo Kakou for putting in the time to tell this story with knowledge and respect to the Kanaka Maoli and the need to love the land and reclaim the parts of the soul. I really appreciate how you told this story.
