This is ...in my opinion...THE only version of Queer As Folk. I like it better than the British version...and Definitely better than the version that started in 2022...This IS....Queer As Folk!!!!
I couldn't agree more. Years ago, many people liked the Russell T. Davies version better. It was good and a daring trend-setter for it's time. However, it also didn't have the balls of the American version. It didn't touch AIDS or drugs in the LGBTQ+ community. Lesbians were just secondary characters. The American version was ahead of it's time in discussing gay marriage and gay adoption angles. And, let's face it, the American version had a superior soundtrack which many of us heard every time we went out dancing. This is nothing against the British version, but Davies pretty much seemed to admit he missed the boat with the frank sexuality he put in the excellent ''It's a Sin'' a few years ago. I side with Brian, Justin, Michael, Ben, Ted, Drew, Lindsay, Melanie, Debbie and Uncle Vic.
I was in the UK in the late-90s and saw the original version, moving to Toronto in 2001. After experiencing the world of both shows I have to say it's VERY accurate.
This show is the reason I am still Alive.

This show captured the feeling of what it was like to be gay in the early 2000s so well. It was really important for me to see something like this on the air at that time. I'm very happy that LGBT+ issues in the US have improved so much since this show was on, but I think it's important that queer people continue to have our own media/art (like this) rather than relying on mainstream corporate media's more sanitized versions. Gay people have sex. Sometimes it's random or kinky or otherwise nontraditional, but it's an important part of our lives and queer-themed media shouldn't be afraid to show that.
Well said. Exactly what's on my mind. It was life changing for me in my teens to see I'm not the only one and that this kind of life is normal. It will forever hold a special place in my heart. Unfortunately the new version doesn't work for me. Mayby I'm too old now, but it's just not that relatable.
@@Derrek84 You are old, it's the same for me. I watched this show not so long ago, and watched the new one, the OG one still reigns supreme. The new one was their attempt to make a woke version while this show was going at the beat of their own drums and being unique

What's more is that it captured what it was like to be in one's 20s, 30s, 40s, AND 50s at the time. No show has done that before nor since then. It's a real shame.

I remember being 12-13ish watching the premier. This is one of the few shows I've watched premier to finale, my heart sang, cried, lived and panicked watching this. And it all makes me proud to be gay and open.

I’m straight but love this show so much that I just purchased the complete set of QAF! I just wish it was longer and that they would reboot with the SAME actors!! Add new but keep the original major cast!
I was near the same age. I'd sneak downstairs to watch it. It was the only thing that made it feel like I wasn't alone in being LGBT
Still relevant today. Same issues different decade. Such great TV that went way beyond the original US premise.
I wish it would come back for a movie or limited run. We could all use some more happy endings.

What an epic song. Every time I play it gives me the goose bumps for every fabulous season I watched sometimes in tears, sometimes in loud aughter. We all wanted a friend like Lindsay and Melanie that we can talk to about anything while having coffee in a lovely house feeling all warm and protected, a mother like Debbie strong enough to carry the weight of her own problems and yours without complaining not even a bit, a friend to go clubbing with like Emmet and Michael. Well, it's time to get the DVD's out again and have a marathon (cos unfortunately no platformhas them online where I live, shame on them!). Series like this never get old. (Note that I didn't say "a lover like Justin cos I'm too pretty to go to prison xD).

When Queer as Folk premiered (12/3/00) I had just turned 14 (younger than Justin’s character) & now I’m the same age as Ted (35). Good grief times flies. 😳

I can't think about another series because u two set so high bar in my heart.. I can't stop thinking about this series.. I don't get the feeling which I have for QAF, I can't emotionally watch other bl series, whose fault is this,, I want season 6.do u get it.. Am a straight person,, but because of Randy Harrison ND Gale Harold (Justin Brian) now Out of mind.. OMG do u guys can u feel my heart beat,, am 21 ND m going crazy.. QAF is a masterpiece seris of world.. It motivates not only LGBTQ community but person like us to think straight forward ND teach others.. I love this series so much ND happy to be fan of this series.. Because am bl fan .

This show was absolutely amazing.
This show would forever be among mh favourites, was 14/15 when i forat stumbled on this movie, a friend brought the disc to class so we swapped, i fell in love with brian and Justin, Micheal, Emmet, Debs and all of them and i never stopped, how i miss them, hope the years have been kind to them.
Love at first sight. Something Brian Kinney only had once before, when he met his son.

One thing that I thought was interesting is that in the end it seemed Ted and Blake had the happiest ending. It was really uplifting how they both gave up their bad habits and wound up together years later. Plus I loved Blake I wish he had had a bigger role.
My show, my school, my lessons. Coming out at 57, this show helped me to understand who I am, and gave me the beginning of a new phase of my life as a gayman. I love all of them, and of course I identified with Justin completely. I bought the whole set of the 5 years show. When I am in those blue and taking it out and I watch it again. Sadly the new one couldn't compete with the old one and even with the British one. Leave the original alone!
