Great stuff Jamie! Dyfi is quite an intimidating place initially in my opinion. I want to get back some time soon, and ride some of those trails you hit in the video.
Cheers Andrew. Yeah, I'm with you. The slate is really challenging in the wet and the speed takes a bit of getting used to. It's amazing how much your confidence can grow on an uplift day though, and soon the intimidation gjves way to good times. I'd love to head back there 👌
I’ve done 3 days there and do find it super intimidating. There isn’t much that I can’t get down on a bike usually, but I’ve found it impossible to build up and confidence there. The surface is loose in a lot of places and the jump faces are crazy steep.
Well done for trying though. I'm the same with rocky, mountain trails. Despite my best efforts I still struggle to ride over chunky rock trails - it gets in my head every time 🙈
I went to Antur Stiniog with my bro a few weeks ago and I was bricking it. I don't ride bike parks much (at all) and I expected to be surrounded by pros, semi pros and RUclips shredders and to look like I'd never ridden a bike before. Instead I quickly turned into an absolute mentalist and after warming up on some 'easier' trails I was flying, pushing my limits and discovering that my bike could take more and more. It takes a while to recalibrate your brain to the speed. Once I did and I got used to letting the bike run I got faster and faster and ended up putting more pressure in my suspension and tyres and it felt absolutely brilliant. Modern bikes are incredible and I'm just scratching the surface of what I can do with it. I learned that if you trust your bike and don't overthink stuff you'll get down the hill. That said if you're NOT comfortable, just get off and walk it. Better to get off and live to ride another uplift than spanner yourself. And besides, we've seen you videos, we all know you're not 'average' 👊😉
Hey mate. This comment is brilliant. I think you've just summed up perfectly what it feels like to arrive on an uplift day when it is not your usual style of riding. I'm with you on taking a sensible approach and just letting the speed build naturally. Awesome buddy 👌 Literally couldn't have put it better myself.
Very much sums up my feelings when I visited Antur last year. I only ride a short travel bike and was really worried it (and moreso myself) wouldn't cope. Instead like you soon found myself pushing myself and living it. Not saying I set the place in fire but for me it really left me buzzing. Not been to Dyfi, a few mates have recently and they came away loving it 😎
So, do I take it the 'normal' riders mentioned in the title you imagine to be more technically skilled and experienced than you, streetpigeonmtb ? You made this look fun and certainly not beyond your abilities. I didn't know such bike parks existed ! 😅 Educational.
Thank you. Yeah, I noticed that when I was doing the edit! I was definitely more nervous and hesitant in the beginning and really enjoying myself by the end. Good times 👌
one of the best videos ive seen encouraging lesser riders....its daunting going to a bike park knowing guys will be racing around like maniacs and us lesser riders not knowing if weare going to be in the way all the time......
Thank you - that is such a useful video. I've been riding for two years now (having not been on a bike for over 35 years) and have so far just been riding natural paths, hills and bridleways in the Chilterns. It's fun, but I've been trying to work out how to step it up to go to a bike park. You're a better rider than me, but there's nothing in your video that I think is beyond me... It's given me the confidence to but my bike in the car and give it a go!
Had a very similar experience to this in May. Very apprehensive initially . By lunch time found confidence was building hugely. Great vibe . Will return next year.
Awesome video of "bumbling" down amazing trails. Great to see such a relatable video at a place where you usually see the likes of BK or Brayton showing runs at insane speeds i could never hope to get near. Really helps regular riders feel like they can do it. Subbed.
Great video. Was looking to go there myself but was concerned it may be out of my skill set. I'm definitely going to book a trip in the next few months
Great video ....demonstrating how these places can really grow the confidence. It also shows how much they leave you buzzing 😜👍 I say that, but ive not visited Dyfi yet. Antur Stiniog had me going through the same enotions. I think its definitely a step down though I'll be honest. 🤣
Thanks mate. I've ridden Antur once, many years ago. Did three runs then stacked it pretty hard! Seem to remember it was a really decent place. Would deffo go back 👍
@@streetpigeonmtb I'd certainly go back but like you it's not my normal riding. Still ultimately prefer the more natural trails. Then again.....what is truly natural?
YOU ARE NOT AN AVERAGE RIDER!! Your riding has came on immensely since I first discovered your channel! I don't even know if I could ride that stuff man! Really good edit and gives such a great perspective of Dyfi of someone who is NOT AVERAGE but not YET Pro, Keep it up Jamie 👊🏻 P.S That scream from Clark.. Let's just say I had headphones on 🤣
Yo! Loved the video, first time seeing your channel! Great insight on dyfi I haven’t seen anything like this before. Just a comment on your video, loved the videography but it would be great if you dialed in your audio more, I could barely hear you!
Cheers mate. Glad you enjoyed the vid and sorry the audio wasn't quite working for you. Was it the level of my voice when the music was playing or the clarity when I was on a POV run?
@@streetpigeonmtb same here mate, it’s 2.5 hours for me, not as far as you like but far enough 😀 I’m definitely getting Scotland ticked off the list next year 👍🏻
That was a great video 👍. You could see the apprehension in the first few trails but once you figured the place out and dialled in the grip you were shredding at the end 💪
Thanks bud. That's what I really love about uplift. You get to ride so much and you can build speed over the day. Can't wait to get back. Thanks for taking time to comment 👍
Great job on the edit Jamie 💥 , Dyfi been on the list for a while but it’s just moved up a bit after watching this 🤙. Always fab when you’re slightly apprehensive about somewhere and it turns out to be awesome. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the trip.
Enjoyed watching that one Jamie. You are absolutely right in that it takes a while to get used to the speed of the tracks. I've been 3 times & done multiple runs down the Motorway section. Each time I promise myself that I'm going to 'no brake' it to the end & every time I wuss out at some point! I'm told that if you don't touch the brakes at all on that section you hit about 40 mph / 60 km !!!
Think I need to get a full-susser! I've ridden at four bike parks now (gone back to the same ones a few years running) but all on my Marin hardtail. In my late 40's and trying to keep up with my son (also on a hardtail but his is more enduro style whereas mine is defo a trail bike) and it's starting to feel sketchy as bike parks push the boundaries nore and more. No issues with buying second hand as long as the bike gets a good check over. Bearings are consumables but you can easily check for play by giving the rear a wobble. TBH though, given the current climate it could be worth you just getting a new bike. Bonkers discounts right now and you will get a bargain with a warranty included. I can't see bikes offering this value ever again so may be something to think about 😁
Well done mate! It's a place that's on my to do list also. You looked like you were having plenty of fun and certainly were getting more confident with every ride. Super video as always 👍
@streetpigeonmtb getting there mate just not healing as quick as I would like. Still not been back on the mtb. Fingers crossed soon tho still have pain in my chest plate area. I have managed a few easyish gravel rides lately so working building my strength and fitness back up. Can't wait to get back on the trails tho!! Body wouldn't be able to handle the roughness ect the now. Soon tho 🙏 thanks for asking Jamie very much appreciated.
Great vid Jamie :) I always find it's the speed that takes the longest time to get used to. Once you get used to that it's all good, until the legs stop working properly at about 3pm! Best vibe of any bikepark we've ever been to, sure there'salways plenty of Pro's milling around or hitting the trails, but everyone is super chilled and friendly :)
This was a superb edit Jamie. Loved it...I'd say you managed to authenticaly convey the sense of thrill and exhileration of riding these trails. I am mega keen to give them a go myself as soon as I can! Thanks. 👍😎🤘⭐
Would love to get down to Dyfi when I'm feeling a tad more confident on the bike 😅 You should definitely get down to bike park wales if you haven't already, they've got some cracking trails
Racetrack is the best there once you learn it and get speed, flows so damn good. Racetrack lower (the 5 chutes) is bloody scary eh? It takes people out all the time. Get yourself back a few times mate, it's the dream bike park but takes some time to get used to the pace, slate, length and gnarliness of it all. Can't wait to return myself. Smashed it!
Dyfi is ace. I went for the first time in May. It’s super fast which took a while to get used to. I used to love Revs which was totally different. Super Swooper was loads of fun. Can’t wait to hear back.
Great edit Jamie, fantastic, the speed in the trees was ludicrous.. looked awesome on film! I’ve been once to dyfi maybe 2 years ago now, made the mistake of riding (hiking my bike down) the slab track and head went complete west after that. The slabs next to the netting also had me, not easy riding at all, but as said plenty of accessible tracks there now. I have an idea for an edit “how average is the street pigeon really? 😂
Way to go bro well done I've got that body armour too love it had other one's that just didn't feel or fit right but the endura one is amazing I where it ever ride forget you have it on
Great edit of Dyfi. You’re a step above average though, for sure. Being able to ride down Racetrack is no mean feat. I’m still a lost roadie but absolutely LOVE Dyfi, have fun in Wales man
Thanks mate. Yeah, I'm so pleased I had a tow down Racetrack. I don't think I could've brought myself to ride some of it if I'd been there on my own! What a great place.
My first two bike park trips as a less than average rider were revs then dyfi in a weekend, had a great time, was definitely not a step too far for beginners.
Hi mate. All the bikes there were 160mm/160mm or 170mm/160mm. Fairly standard enduro bikes. My own bike is 180mm front 160mm rear but comes with a linkage that can take it to 180mm rear. Saying that, I've always found the 160mm travel to be enough 👍
Another awesome video, really looking forward to getting down there myself. 😊 Like you, I am intimidated by the place but figure lovey Dyfi and super swooper sessions are probably worth the trip anyway. I must say, you are a long way from an average rider pal. I think you left that level behind a long time ago. I remember doing some Golfie trails you were laughing and giggling on thinking to myself, these will be brilliant. 💪🏼😎 Luckily, I always take multiple changes of clothes to Scotland with me. 😮😂
Ha ha, cheers pal. Yeah, the 'average' but is hard to quantify. I tend to think of myself as an average Tweed Valley rider which I think is fair. I appreciate there are a lot of quick riders here though so it's hard to work out where my riding stacks up!
Great vid mate! Somewhere I really want to visit myself but also makes me nervous! You’re a much better rider than me! Think it’s still worth a visit? I also ride more natural trails usually!
Deffo worth a visit. Honesty, even if you spent the day learning one or two trails, the progression would be amazing. There are so many tracks to choose from 🤯
i didnt own a bike for 13 years!! when i finally got a new one dyfi was the first place i went, nothing like diving in the deep end. the oppurtunity for progression at dyfi is second to none!
Absolutely flying mate, well done. Thinking of heading there in October. Already switching between stoked & bricking it 🤣. I have an am9 with exo tyres. Im a little worried it wont be "enough" bike. Whats ur thoughts on it?
It'll be enough bike, deffo. Tyres could be an issue though... I'd say EXO + at a minimum but DD for the ultimate reassurance. The grip is pretty low at Dyfi. The issue with EXO is you'll probably have to run them with a lot of air to prevent punctures which will lose you grip. That's my thoughts anyways.
You know what would be good dude is For you to do a bike check with everyone your riding with in the vids I Always find it interesting to see other peoples rigs and set ups etc. Don’t knock yourself dude your better then average 👍 And I think you’ve just about got the formula right with vids really enjoy them 👌🏾👍 Well done dude from one bird owner to another 🤣👍
@@streetpigeonmtb I’ve got the 2020 am160 27.5, paid £1100 for it (bargain) of lad who smashed his car up he only road it twice, love it. How do you find coil v air rear shock
@46holl ah nice. That is a bargain! Coils are more responsive, if a little dead feeling. Air is a bit less responsive and a bit more poppy feeling. For pure gravity/downhill I'd probably be inclined to go cool - it just feels so planted. But for more trail/jump orientated stuff, I'd say air. I'm really lucky in that I have both and enjoy them in different ways.
Cheers James. I deffo think I'm a solid rider, just not that quick compared to the fast folks. I feel like the average enduro rider is pretty fast these days. Especially the youths!
Jamie, great vid! It’s not easy to capture the awesome Dyfi, but you’ve achieved that. Glad to see you getting revved up by the place. For me, it’s all about progression: no gaps, just tables and doubles. And the drops are all signed and everything that can’t be rolled has a really good alternate. I’m still healing up (from BPW 😅), but I’m going back soon 🎉
Healing vibes! Yeah, I agree. Locations that offer opportunity for genuine progression are golden. I was so impressed with Dyfi. I could see my riding coming on hugely if I was able to get there regularly 👌
I would say a trail bike would work for sure. Anything with modern geometry would be an advantage. If course, less travel might slow you down a bit but there would stull be plenty for you to do 👍
There's really no other bikepark in the uk like Dyfi. It's intimidating, but alot of that comes from everyone saying it is. It's fast and steep and technical, but it's so well built that it makes you feel like a super hero! I remember doing my first run and thinking 'fuck this!'. And then you adjust to the speed and tech and then it all makes sense! 🤙
Thanks for video. Totally agree. Waste of time for riders not into airtime and very fast sketchy trails. In other words me. Gimme afan like trails anyday over a bike park.
Haven't been to Afan. Have to say, Dyfi was way more accessible that I'd predicted and I think it is a awesome location for all folks to progress. Personally I absolutely loved it, appreciate it won't be for everyone though 👍
Completely disagree. Iv never ridden a uplift bike park before. Decided to give this a go as I live here. Lovey dyfi, super swooper and 50hits most can do
The issue is with casual riders riding way beyond their skill level but not their bikes capabilities. Theres been a few times when ive come around a blind corner to find people stood in the middle of the track, or struggling to make it up a jump, oblivious to someone coming along the track at 20+mph... I'm all for helping people get a feature, but there needs to be some more self awareness and a few more practice runs on the reds at BPW.
I suppose the challenge is the only qualifier is being able to buy a ticket. I'm wondering if some additional rider info when you book somewhere might be helpful 🤷♂️ Not really sure of the solution.
Gotta respect the skills on show, but every time I see something like this, I'm more and more sure I made the right call by being a roadie 😅 You couldn't pay me to ride that...... 🤣
Ah, cheers buddy. Honestly, I don't mind your feedback and thanks for delivering it in a reasonable way. I totally appreciate the music is not to everyone's tastes. I tend to add music that I enjoy and I know that isn't right for everyone. Glad you enjoyed the vid though and thanks again for taking time to comment 👌
You definitely need to be good to enjoy it there otherwise it is indeed a wasted trip. Someone like me whos skills are trash would not have a good time there, I can tell
I don't know where your skills are at but there is deffo scope for most riders to have a good time there. Even if you rocked up and just rode Lovey Dyfi all day, sessioning to improve, it would be worth it IMO.
@@streetpigeonmtb to keep it maintained it would be enough to pay £5 for a day. Me my misses and our youngest ride and we live in the north of England. For us all to ride it's £300 to ride a bike in a forest 🤷🏻♂️ including fuel food and of course the cost of uplift. Very very expensive and not a family friendly place.
@MartinTeerly fair enough. It's more than a ride in the forest though. It's a legitimate bikepark with kilometeres of maintained trails and consistent development. One of the best biking locations in the UK for sure. To say it is just a ride in a forest is downplaying it a little. And I'm speaking as someone who rides both natural trails and from riding the park itself. Also, the idea that you could run this operation whilst charging people £5 per day isn't at all realistic 👍
Weekend warrior types and average cyclist should not watch a few red Bull videos, buy full face helmet and a chest protector and pretend to be pros at bike parks. It’s damn dangerous.
Not sure I get you? Can't say I saw anyone pretending to be a pro on my Dyfi trip 🤷♂️ I just saw a load of folks having a good time, trying to progress and challenging themselves. Nothing wrong with that 😁

Get yourself back a few times mate, it's the dream bike park but takes some time to get used to the pace, slate, length and gnarliness of it all. Can't wait to return myself. Smashed it!
Thanks man. Agree with all you say. What a place for sure. Those chutes are really intimidating! I can't wait to get back myself 👌
Dyfi is ace. I went for the first time in May.
It’s super fast which took a while to get used to. I used to love Revs which was totally different.
Super Swooper was loads of fun. Can’t wait to hear back.
Yeah, it's amazing. Sadly I never got to ride Revs. Hoping to hit BPW next year 👍
Great edit Jamie, fantastic, the speed in the trees was ludicrous.. looked awesome on film!
Ha ha. Yeah, that would be awesome. If you can think of a way to measure it I'll let you be the creative director 😆😁
@@streetpigeonmtb I’ll put my thinking cap on🤔
@MindfulTrailBiker-sv2bc 😁
Well conquered Sir!
Thanks buddy 👌
Way to go bro well done I've got that body armour too love it had other one's that just didn't feel or fit right but the endura one is amazing I where it ever ride forget you have it on
Ah nice. Do use it on normal rides as well?
@streetpigeonmtb I use it all rides part of my route now for getting ready just like knee pads and gloves you can also wear it without an under layers
@inbetweenerslikeybikeycrew ah nice. Yeah, it deffo feels like it could be worn every day. Think I'll take it out on the next ride 👌
Sweet ride!
Cheers. It was such a good day. Can't wait to get back at some point 👌
I need to go again. You rode so much more than me. I spent most of my time feeding a racetrack addiction 😂
Ha ha! Yeah, easy done. We barely scratched the surface. Need to get back!
It looks a nice place, could you run it on a full rigid?
You could... But I'm not sure you should if that makes sense. It would be wild.
Looks pretty sick to me. You nailed it 🤟🏻
Cheers man. It's an absolutely brilliant location 👌
@@streetpigeonmtb would love to give it a go. We live local to Twisted Oaks 🤘🏻
@graemesbikingdiary232 Ah nice. I haven't heard of that place. What's it like? Worth a visit?
@@streetpigeonmtb it’s near Ipswich. It’s pretty cool for us. Nothing like the stuff in the video though. Sam Pilgrim & Tom Cardy use it quite a bit.
@graemesbikingdiary232 ah great. I'll check it out on RUclips 👍
Just done bikepark wales we loved it but this place looks better 👌 we booking for next year definitely 😁
Dyfi is different but also great. BPW for pure variety, but you'll love the speed and challenge of Dyfi 👌
Great realistic video, but don't do yourself down, you are a far better rider than you think 👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers mate. I'll keep trying to improve 👌
Great vid
Cheers mate. Was quite pleased with the way the edit came out. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
My first two bike park trips as a less than average rider were revs then dyfi in a weekend, had a great time, was definitely not a step too far for beginners.
Nice. I'm so sad I never got to ride at Revs.
Looks fast!! What amount of travel do you and your mates have?
Hi mate. All the bikes there were 160mm/160mm or 170mm/160mm. Fairly standard enduro bikes. My own bike is 180mm front 160mm rear but comes with a linkage that can take it to 180mm rear. Saying that, I've always found the 160mm travel to be enough 👍
Did gd bro. It's an awesome place . Can't wait go on dh bike but it's jst getting there lol ..
It would be a lot of fun on a DH bike!
Dear lord, I don't fancy the vertical drops on the race track much 😮, but the first track you did looked great fun, Mr Pigeon 😊
Ha ha. Yeah, they were an unexpected surprise! I'm glad I was following folks as I may have bottled it!
Another awesome video, really looking forward to getting down there myself. 😊
Like you, I am intimidated by the place but figure lovey Dyfi and super swooper sessions are probably worth the trip anyway.
I must say, you are a long way from an average rider pal. I think you left that level behind a long time ago.
I remember doing some Golfie trails you were laughing and giggling on thinking to myself, these will be brilliant. 💪🏼😎
Luckily, I always take multiple changes of clothes to Scotland with me. 😮😂
Ha ha, cheers pal. Yeah, the 'average' but is hard to quantify. I tend to think of myself as an average Tweed Valley rider which I think is fair. I appreciate there are a lot of quick riders here though so it's hard to work out where my riding stacks up!
The thing is, the rest of the country come up to the tweed valley and the bottom of our world falls out. 😂
@StewartSanderson 😆
What size of Endura back/chest protector you go for there Jamie? Ps great vid btw
Cheers buddy. I went for size M/L 👍
That's amazing... And fair play for using that as your first destination 👏 What a place indeed 👌
Great video
Thanks mate. Really appreciate that 🙏
Absolutely flying mate, well done.
Ordered dd front & dh rear with inserts, just to be sure 😂. Thanks for the info
@ab_mtb that'll do it!
I have one thing to say about going to Dyfi… WOOOOOOAAAAAAWWWW !
😆😆😆
You know what would be good dude is For you to do a bike check with everyone your riding with in the vids I Always find it interesting to see other peoples rigs and set ups etc.
Don’t knock yourself dude your better then average 👍
And I think you’ve just about got the formula right with vids really enjoy them 👌🏾👍
Well done dude from one bird owner to another 🤣👍
Thanks mate. Appreciate that! What Bird have you got?
Well done Jamie another great video .I think you are a better rider than you make out
Cheers James. I deffo think I'm a solid rider, just not that quick compared to the fast folks. I feel like the average enduro rider is pretty fast these days. Especially the youths!
I'm a average rider ,I just stayed on super swooper all day ,great day out.😊
Yup. That's what I really like about the place. You could session one or two trails all day and still capture a bit of the Dyfi experience 👍
Much better rider than me, I'd be in the worried to go camp too. Can't jump, can't bunny hop etc
You'd have to judge it. All the jumps I rode were basically table tops - you could rude over them without jumping 👍
Would you be ok with a trail bike here with 150mm of travel or do you need a proper downhill bike ?
I would say a trail bike would work for sure. Anything with modern geometry would be an advantage. If course, less travel might slow you down a bit but there would stull be plenty for you to do 👍
I’d forgotten how fast Motorway was!
Absolutely insane!
Definitely. Have you been to Bike Park Wales? Thoughts?
I have and it doesn't compare to Dyfi in terms of steepness and technical riding. I love BPW but Dyfi is something else@@streetpigeonmtb
Nice. Think I'll deffo head to BPW this year. Still keen to check it out 👍
I'll wait for a dry spell next summer 😂
Ha ha. Fair play. Wet slate is pretty lethal!
Great vid, great riding..yes I don't think you are an "average " rider either. I would need to stop to change brake pads.
Ha ha. Yeah, my brakes were getting plenty use. Very fast trails indeed!
I went and had a day's coaching/guiding worth every penny, means you can drop in knowing it's within your ability
Nice. That's sounds really good 👍
A general lack of bumblage going on here. Though, an excess of fun, if there can ever be an excess fun.
😆 Man, I totally forgot to run this past Pinkbike 😆
That was exciting as fuck
Cheers mate. Appreciate that! It's nice to see some new folks seeing the video and commenting. Thank you 👍
Gotta respect the skills on show, but every time I see something like this, I'm more and more sure I made the right call by being a roadie 😅 You couldn't pay me to ride that...... 🤣
😆 Believe it or not, I used to do a bit of road but gave it up because I thought it was getting too dangerous 😆 I just find the cars scary!
Na I'd ride super swopper all day long 😂 stepped it up after a couple of times there managed the racetrack
Nice dude!
Nice video. I found the Music over your speaking a little annoying sometimes
Ah, cheers buddy. Honestly, I don't mind your feedback and thanks for delivering it in a reasonable way. I totally appreciate the music is not to everyone's tastes. I tend to add music that I enjoy and I know that isn't right for everyone. Glad you enjoyed the vid though and thanks again for taking time to comment 👌
far from an average rider now Jamie! DYFI is no walk in the park!
Cheers buddy. What an awesome day. Glad the fear subsided and the pure fun arrived. Loved it! Cheers for taking the time to comment 👍
What body armour are you wearing
I use this buddy - www.endurasport.com/mt500-d3o-protector-vest/14268425.html
You gonna need a lawyer for some of those cases lol. ✌
Always 😆
wish i didnt live 6hrs from this
Same 🤦♂️
nah get on and send it
Yup. It's great 👍
You need to stop referring to yourself as average. Sure, you’re not a pro (cos none of us weekend warriors are), but you’re anything but average.
I dunno mate. I feel average out on the trails. I'm deffo faster than some, but I'm also a lot slower than many!
@@streetpigeonmtb aren’t we all? There’s always someone faster, the only real competition is yourself from last ride!
@peterj2131 true 🙏
It's definitely too expensive a trip.
I don't mind paying once in a while if I know it's going into maintenance and development 👍
@MartinTeerly have you ridden there?
@@streetpigeonmtb no mate. I'm not spending that much money on a ride in the forest 🤷🏻♂️
Nothing wrong with that 😁
just get better at riding and ask some bloke to tow you in lol
And the 'slow clap' award goes to...
@streetpigeonmtb Congratulations on your 10K sub's Jamie well done mate🍾
Cheers man. Really appreciate that 👌
