I'm a songwriter and Cornell played on a few of the recordings of my songs. So, I got to watch and listen to him up close and personal. Masterful talent and nice guy.
I met him once after a show in Greenwich Village. He graciously answered my questions while he was packing up his gear. A real sweetheart. RIP, Cornell.
TrueFire, this is absolutely outstanding!! Thank you so much for doing this and for sharing it with us! Rory Ronde expertly shows us how this type of style (Cornell's) works. This lesson is awesome. Thanks again for doing this and Rory ( I hope you read this), I tip my hat to you for how well you teach this lesson. Big thanks!!
Cool bro! Cornell used to come over my house when I was first starting to play. Him and my dad were best of friends. I would go see him play with Stuff and Encyclopedia of Soul with Gordon Edwards. He gave me a Yamaha amp that he got when he was endorsing them. He used to go to Japan all the time so I guess that's how he got that sponsorship. Him and his wife were mad cool. I think they lived in Texas before he passed. I'm not sure if this vid really sounds like Cornell that you did but I think he had a vid where he broke down some of his playing that I saw on RUclips some time ago. Eric Gale had some crazy pocket funky sht he played too. That was the thing about those guys...the funky pocket stuff. Check out the song "Foots" on the "Stuff" album. Both of them are on there
Alan Blake, that is a cool story. I'm glad you mentioned the "Stuff" album. I bought it when it first came out, but I haven't listened to it in a very long time. I'm going to find it and listen to it. Thanks Alan!
This makes me think of Genuwine “Those Jeans” . I’m pretty sure they the guitar style from the one your teaching us about. Cool soulful sound. Gonna try when I get off work.
thank you. The instructions were clear and I was able to understand. But I would have to have my guitar with me in front of the computer to play it. I am also curious if this style would be effective on an acoustic guitar.
Cornell Dupree was awesome. His technique is a must know for every guitarist, especially if you are trying to understand the foundation of Jimi Hendrix...which in the most basic form, Cornell Dupree was actually better than Jimi at the R&B Soul rythym technique. Add a saturated Marshall, a tab of acid and a swath of purple and tear down all musical fences and you have The Hendrix Experience. Regarding this tutorial, I love your tone and clean articulation. However, if you dig up an old Cornell Dupree Arlen Roth Hotlicks video, he shows in detail how he phrases Rainy Night In Georgia. He uses different inversions for both double stops and chords with the exception of the second Maj7th you are playing. Those old Hotlicks videos are really invaluable.
Cool stuff Rory you popped up after I watched Mr. Cornell Dupree’s 50 minute VHS. I couldn't sleep. But I think I can speak Dutch to you right?, your accent in your well spoken English sounds like yur from Amsterdam 😀✌🏻️When can we jam somewhere 😀😃😃 By the way Ronde is a very well known name in my City 👍🏼 Thanks for the lesson
Fine ear mosquito, ironically i am the one in Mexico atm, but find me in fb and we may find some time to make some music when i get home. Not always so easy these days to find people with similar taste.
Ideas from Rainy Night In Georgia for sure, but not the song. If you want to absorb Cornell’s style, spend a couple dozen hours with the Brook Benton version.

Sir, you are lucky. I'd love to hear more about this guy. Cornell Dupree is my hero.
That’s amazing!
Wow! Can you send us links to one or two please? Thanks

This is the first time I hear about Cornell Dupree. I guess better late then never. Greetings from the Netherlands

sorry if this is a dumb question: is he is standard E tuning?
@@blackmonster4708 No, it is "not" a dumb question. Yes, he is standard tuning. I just call it standard tuning and not standard E tuning.
This guy is a cool dude 👍🏻 thanks, great lesson.
This lesson is smoother than a gravy sandwich. Thanks for sharing!!
Love your tone and a very cool guitar and thanks for acknowledging the great Cornell Dupree...

The man deserves it💯🔥

Very nice! Dupree. The god father of Neo Soul.
A thousand thanks! This was really helpful in my quest to become better at soul/R&B. And big respect to Cornell too.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Go listen to Hendrix backing groups pre 1966. He was a master at rhythm guitar.
" a tab of acid and a swath of purple' Wow!
Good Teacher.
Sounds like Darondo! Nice lesson
Good job!

Wow 🤩 top! Thx
His set at the Holiday Inn on Thursday's during happy hour is good too. Seems down to earth and drinks are half price
Must be a tad lonesome in your world.

What song is this from? Sounds so familiar
Could be: Rainy night in Georgia!

Cornell played a lot of 4ths, and in D
3.29
He should do voice overs in natgeo and animal planet part time.
*holds ukulele patiently*
Am I the only one who’s seeing Ed Reed?
lol i see it
Good lesson, but you shoul play the whole tune at the end of explanation.
I agree. I’ve learned the licks but don’t have any context for them haha
