As a gift for graduating from university, I was given a Barbour Ashby with a fur lined insert. My family was modestly in a low point where my father had lost his job and we were surviving on fumes, but his sacrifices led me to complete higher education. I insisted on not buying that jacket because of its price point, but three years later, it’s in my wardrobe, and I’ll gladly keep wearing it well into my adulthood, wax on, wax off, always reminding me of the love and perseverance that runs in my family.
@@casuallyworked I ordered a large and it ended up fitting like a glove. My best fitting jacket. I wouldn’t say it stretched a ton but it did loosen up a little the more I wear it. I rarever button these style of jackets though.
Just got the Hucberry Hudson; the trucker's less popular but more rugged and secretly sexy brother that everyone fancies when they turn 30. It's epic. The build is better and more robust than my Barbour Duke. Has handwarmers under waist pockets which is just the most civilised thing you can do (take not Barbour Duke makers), and is fully lined with some understated plaid cosiness, and unlike my RGT Supply (which I fucking adore), actually keeps rain out as opposed to seducing each droplet and welcoming it in for a martini and a shag. Why does nobody talk about the Hudson? It's a god damn megababe of a jacket.
Ive had the freenote cloth jacket for almost 2 years now. It really is the pinacle of all waxed jacketets IMO. The main selling point for me though are the arm gussets. I have broad shoulders and I get easily annoyed if I don't have full arm mobility, which isn't an issue at all with this jacket.
Had the same issue. I'm Mike's size height wise (5'9"), but had to get a large because at 165lbs I could barely get the medium on and once on my arms were locked into imaginary lat syndrome posture. Large is a bit roomier everywhere, but still a nice fit.
That’s funny timing. I just got my Freenote cloth riders jacket in Oak today. I wear an XL in most shirts, mostly due to my wide shoulders and large chest. The XL fits perfectly. Sleeves are an inch or so too long, but I’ll live with it, could have them mended I’m sure, but it’s completely usable. I’m 5’10” so that’s the main issue with the sleeve length.
Kace from Yellowstone wears the Freenote Rider, too. Double famous guys jackets! Another good one to look at - Iron & Resin Rambler jacket. It's also US made and unlined. They have a lined version (Scout) which is also very nice, but not US made. Their Cruiser jacket is bigger and thicker, kind of a competitor to the Ship John Wills jacket on a budget.
The Huckberry one looked a little boxy on me so I got the Rogue Territory from Stag Provisions because they offer it lined with Japanese wool. They don’t block coupons on anything either so I got it for a decent discount. Can’t recommend it enough. The liner really seals it.
I have the Rogue Territory. It looks fantastic on me, and it has aged incredibly well. I ride a motorcycle, so all the dirt, dust, smog, etc. you pick up while riding has made the jacket look very cool.
Don’t be afraid of doing work in the RT jacket. It looks way better after it’s been dirtied a few times. I’ve been wearing mine to do all kinds of outdoors and dirty chores on chilly damp mornings and it instantly developed a lot of character.
Michael, thanks again for another informative and entertaining video. I'm a longtime subscriber. And looking at the Huckberry Flint and Tinder ripstop waxed jacket. BTW, the word you're looking for in this and other videos is "ingenious". It's the adjective version of the noun "ingenuity". When talking about fit, if by "generally" you mean more regular proportions or true to size, saying "a more regular fit" or something similar would be helpful. ;)
I love RGT! One of my favorite brands for sure. Have you tried their Lined Supply Jacket? That might be the version for you. I personally don’t have one because I’m not a big fan of the fact that you can see the lining of the pockets on its seam. But if it wasn’t for that, I’d get one🤣
To anyone wanting to buy the lined version of the rogue territory jacket, know that the measurements are slightly bigger to account for the extra fabric. It'll definitely lose a little of its svelte shape as a result.
Pack Animal Bridger Jacket is what I reach for the most in Winter, but I love my Filson's lined truckers (especially since I just got a sweet liner). Bridger Jacket best bang for buck, sweet fit and style. Ship John Wills is nice but I can't deal with waiting a year for anything clothing.
Fab video as ever, top job! 👍 That said, I’d really like to see you put your sights on a Peregrine Bexley jacket one of these days. There don’t seem to be any reviews about their output on RUclips. It’s a bit different style-wise from these “rider” thingies, closer to the Barbour range - but less steep on the wallet. Please consider giving them a proper review one of these days. Cheers!
Have you seen the NJ based brand Heatstraps? That's what I'm eyeing! 👀 I had a vintage (1950's) waxed jacket passed down to me by my gram... but it was 1/2 an inch thick from so much wax and had no lining... eeeek it was so functional but didn't feel good to wear. Hi, thx for your video.. I've just contacted Huckberry for the flint and tinder unlined, but they are currently out of stock, so they'll notify me when available.. I was going to get the tin duck denim trucker, but the 8-9 week lead time turned me away because I’m wanting it for fall. Got a Free note riders jacket. Very impressive! I’ve purchased a couple waxed jackets on discount: one from “mountain khakis” and the other from “madewell”. Between the two I prefer the mountain khaki, but strangely enough both have washing machine instructions? So I’m guessing they have a very very light coating of wax? Also both were lined along the sleeves and the main body inside.
Probably because they aren’t sold to people who know much about the product they are buying. The people buying them might just wash everything with no thought about it. The amount of wax on the product has nothing to do with being machine washable. If it’s genuinely a waxed jacked, it shouldn’t be machine washed at all.
You just can’t machine wash it. That’s it. Do you constantly spill spaghetti sauce on your clothes or something? Even then, the wax would keep it from staining it, so I don’t see the big problem. If it’s well maintained it wouldn’t ever be a problem. Do you wash your jeans every single day? I don’t.
