Maybe one for the bow bilge and another for the stern, although if that's in the engine bay, make sure there's a tray under the engine to catch any oil leaks, they won't be appreciated if pumped overboard. Oh, and can we hear Becca singing your songs?

    the area tape them on with GAFFA tape, maybe some spray foam round the top and sides? #2 Condensation; where does your stove get it's air from when burning? If you can find out a way to suck air from the area around the bowthruster you are in a win-win situation! You ventilate around the bowthruster and you don't ude already heated air to keep your stove burning!

Ive just had a look and its dry as a bone, the only real difference is my metal work is spray foam lined. I didn't initially think your issue could be condensation but if you don't have any insulation in that area at all it could possibly be condensation (at least in addition to a leak from the deck). Glad I looked, need to hoover some spider eggs out!!!!!

  • @philipdodd2836
    @philipdodd2836 Год назад +2

    Bowthruster tubes can leak, as they are often not blacked all the way along their full length when a boat is blacked. Also, they can made of thinner gauge steel than the hull, so can rust through over time if they are not blacked along their complete length. I’ve seen a video on @Narrowboathands where he welds up a boat’s bowthruster outlets for this very reason. I’ve never been narrowboating, but after many years of cruising the Broads have never found the need for a bowthruster, so perhaps just weld the bugger up.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  Год назад

      hi, Philip ,yes we have heard there very prone to leak, we were just hoping it wasn't . we did run a few measurement tests on it and its still thick but it could be a join, id be very tempted to weld the holes up on our travels to the canals

    This may be a bit of a mad idea, can you get the bow thruster area dry? If so, then get a canister of baby powder, (talc) squeeze the bottle do it powders out of the holes in the top, aim it at the walls and floor and look for the damp powder, if it's running down the walls it eoll leave streaks, if it on the floor it will pool there, possibly do this and chill playing the guitar and watch for the signs in the powder. Did say it sounded a stupid idea lol.

    Great vlog... Keep up the good work... Have never liked the idea of bow thrusters on a Narrowboat. Big sea going vessels then yes...
    I would check all around the bow thruster tube especially the bits that you can't see and also the gland area where the drive shaft from the motor enters the thruster tube. Not had a thruster on a boat so not sure how the motor drive gets to the prop in the thruster. But should be no different from the stern gland at the rear of the boat and to me that would be the weakest link whith regards to water ingress. Yes boats do sweat but not to that extent. If you don't use the bow thrusters then maybe next time the boat is lifted blank them of with a bit of plating..
    Good luck and hope you find the source of the leak...😉😋👍😊🍻

    Condensed Dream into Nightmare; a value for money wet dream. Probably a lot more potential artistic mileage before you culminate with shot blasting and thickness testing; welding repairs and a ventilator modification followed by two part epoxy as well as resolving the leaking bow thruster gland which has hardened and distorted from lack of use. Evaporated leakage will result in condensation; it's ingress that is invariably responsible. Look at bow thruster more closely. Uniquely refreshing deromanticised entertainment as usual and continuingly slicker videos for masochists.

    Showers on Narrowboat always use lots of water .Every one says they only a 5min shower max to save water. Is there a reason why the water is only used once. People who love a Bath , sit in their water for 30 min or more ( topping it up with more hot water ). As you have a deep shower tray , could you not recycle the water ( through a filter) and use it again ( not suggesting to do this for 30 mins ). You could finish off with some fresh water at the end. You might need 2 shower systems to do this , but it would mean longer showers using less water . 😊

You could try stika flexing some ROCK WOOL to the underneath the bow floor, were the drips are and around the bow thruster tube, be cool if you could do all the inside of the bow coz this wood help to stop your water tank freezing. Having said that it's almost impossible to tell what could be the cause. Thanks for your suggestions, I think whatever's going on, some insulation wouldn't hurt so we will definitely be getting that sorted!
