  • In this video I will outline the difference between a General Section and an Amended Section. The example I give explains why we do not apply rule 14-104 (2) to a Section 62 baseboard heating circuit calculation.

I've flipped through the entire section 62 in the 2021 CEC, and there is no direct remark there about overriding 14-104. The CEC is so hard to read, I'm guessing I'm just not looking in the correct place, maybe it is in the appendix or a footnote. I guess it makes sense that a fixed load like a heater would be so exacting that one could accept a choice of wire ampacity closer to the limits of the 75 deg column. On the other hand, we routinely derate small gauge NMD90 to 60 deg C specifically because of proximity to insulation, attics, and sources of heat. Why not derate to 60 deg for heaters?

Hi, near the front of the book you will find the Preface and the General Arrangement. This info falls under the General Arrangement heading. There are general sections and then there are sections that supplement or amend the general sections. Section 62 amends or in other words over rides Section 14. So we can use Rule 62-114 Sub rules 7 and 8.
