Heinrich Kusch has a very interesting stance on this topic (let's call it alternative 😅) and has been researching for a long time. I don't remember all the details, but basically with the right frequency, you should be able to use the erdstalls to teleport inbetween them xD while I dont think that to be true, there is a lot of crazy and mysterious stuff for sure

Moin, Mace! I think of gnomes. But in reality it all seems to be nonsens. ....Or not??? 😳I would like to know if there is a gradient in this. Very mysterious. There probably weren't so many short people in Europe that they built tunnels everywhere. And then what was really the point? Maybe the tunnels were filled with water as a (protected) reserve?

As an archeology professor once said, when you don't have any idea, just tell them that (insert mysterious place or object) was used for religious purposes. Settles all arguments 😂

Erdstall: lit. earth stable. They are mostly founded in the heartlands of the Celtic culture, which expanded from the Danube river valley in Austria and Bavaria. But there is probably no direct connection. The narrow "Schlupf" passages could be used for initiation rites - like "reborn by mother Earth".

    Servus, Mace!
Unfortunately, the video barely shows any good footage of erdstall tunnels. While it's a nice recording, there are unfortunately no subtitles in the following video "Erdstall Wehrkirche Kleinzwettl bei ServusTV". It shows the exploration of an erdstall tunnel system beneath a chapel, with its entrance located directly in front of the altar.

Pronunciation guide: "Erdstall" is pronounced as "AIRD-shtahl" in German. The word breaks down into "Erd" (meaning "earth" or "ground") and "Stall" (meaning "stable" or "chamber"), literally translating to "earth stable" or "ground chamber." These mysterious medieval tunnels are also sometimes called "Schrazellöcher" in German or "earth passages" in English.

Ich kenne nur Erdkeller zum lagern von Lebensmitteln .Nahrung verstecken war auch überlenswichtig.Oft trieb der Hunger Menschen im Mittelalter in den Wahnsinn. Kannibalismus war nicht selten z.B.im dreißigjährigen Krieg.

Well, videos with the word "mystery" or "mysterious" in the title tend to have an interest to remain mysterious - which is a bad thing, because they can´t even include most sourced information from wikipedia. If they mentioned, that some of those tunnels included doors, which could exclusively be locked from within or that there are actual historical records for some of them to be used as hideouts, what would happen to the mystery? (even though, being used as hideouts was not necessarily the only function).
Also: Plenty of those tunnels have been dated to specific medieval times, there are even timelines, about when the building startet and when most of them were built ... But they couldn´t say that, because that would have taken away the "mystery".
I am always disapointed in video documentaries, which hide most of the available reputable information in order to keep their narrative of the most mysterious mystery alive.
They managed to make a documentary without even learning how the thing they are talking about is pronounced - not even close.

Isn't it pretty obvious that they are very rudimentary fridges?
Doesn't matter if they fill with water in the winter. In the winter you can cool your stuff outside.
