Hi Sean.
Another great video. After you explained the bag last week, thank you for that. This week's project makes more sense. Thank You again.
excellent video...I really enjoyed watching and listening to your suggestions,,.thanks, jb
no problem jon, glad you liked it
Great video man
Thank you Budget Woodworking, glad you liked it!
Cool little vid, bud.
Good video, I didn't know you could do this to veneer. Very informative and well done!
Great Info... thanks..
No problem mate!
Love how young you are and your videos are excellent. You are obviously very talented!! I learned from my mother, but now have an issue we never tackled. Any suggestions for warped cracked veneer you cannot remove? Refinishing a clockmakers's bench. Thanks
Thank you, I'm going to try with water only... I don't have the veneer softener anywhere near me. Thanks for the video!
Hi Sean, I have purchased a box of very old veneer from an Antique auction, It is very old because it has Pound Shilling & pence pricing on the sheets in chalk so possibly pre 1977. most of it has dried out. All of it is beautiful to me, I will give your video a go. Thank you so much for your information, so refreshing. Just one other question. I have very little knowledge of identifying what veneer woods they are, could you guide me into a direction of how I can identify the woods please.
Hi! The video is interesting. One question, is the Softener product oily? Can the veneers glued with epoxy as good as non treated woods? Thanks?
What is your set up for vacuum bagging?
You've given me hope for my restoration project. Could you give a little more info on the paper that you are using to absorb moisture? Will regular kitchen paper towels do? Is the texture of them an issue?
Hi Gabrielle, Yes kitchen papers work absolutely fine, the texture will not transfer onto the veneer.
Ihave been told to soak the veneer overnight in a mixture of glycerine, IPA and PVA overnight before I start the clamping process, would you advise this?
can´t find the softner in your links. Is it sill availible ?
Hi there, sorry i don't know why the link doesn't work. If you go to the veneer hub website or just type in on google, veneer softener, it should come up
How much time did you allow for between paper changes?
Is it possible to do this to the top of a table that is attached? I do t think I can remove it.
I have very dry veneer I need to soften, how ca I?
Good video, annoyingly loud music.
Can I use Iron?
Keep it at low heat,I run a Iron on a water damaged Plywood Carcass.
Will this idea works by ironing and dry out the moisture that is soaked beneath the laminated finishing and plywoods layers?
Hi Sean, If you want to veneer a whole panel. Is there a way to flatten it and glue at the same time? Or always first flattening?
If there veneer is very dry and crinkled up (not flat) It is always good to flatten first. If there wood is not that bad, gluing it to a board will flatten it and it will be ok.
they still dont seem very flat. how do you get them flat like a sheet of paper?
Hi, I've just inherited some very old rolled veneer from my late Father. Is it possible to flatted rolled veneer? There are about 16 large sheets of mahogany all rolled together. Any Advice would be appreciated, I'm trying to cover a table in my Father's memory.
It is worth a fortune. Today's venner is so much thinner than the older veneers.
Can you not do the same with just water?
walnut burr veneer table top with staining and bubbling, what is the solution?
you can buy a product called 'restor-a-finish' that will help the staining. and for the bubbling, I would cut a slit into it with a scalpel, squeeze some glue in... then tape it down while the glue dries.
Great Video Sean like always. Best Wishes from my Channel
Back in the old days....lol...I was taught by my father to use steam to flatten veneers...using an old iron and cotton wetted with water...then clamping between boards with cardboard (my father used a trouser press)... Your method looks easier Sean....lol...and your Mum won’t be moaning cause you knicked her iron...lol...
Hi Stuart! thanks for watching and commenting again, I'm thrilled to have you coming back. My Mum will be moaning about the amount of kitchren roll i used though ahah!
Make it yourself thanks to wood prix plans. I think it's the best way to learn how to build it in the cheapest way.
And... after that amount of paper wasted, the electricity of the vacuum compressor, the "flattening" product, etc. it might be cheaper to buy new veneer directly...
Let's say 10 dollars/pounds whatever in paper, and probably less in electricity. So, maybe check your math.
Then you buy more unbacked veneers and probably have to do this process anyways.
