Another great video, Lynn. It’s really good to SEE what all the descriptions look like. I’m relieved after watching this. I had my Mammillaria theresae out of its pot yesterday in a panic over its softness, despite having read about all this and also reading that its habitat is pretty tough. All OK, but I am paranoid about losing this beauty!

Yes , quite natural for opuntia humifusa, also know as compressa to shrivel& lay flat on the ground, it grows native here and that's what it looks like in habitat right now in February. Standing temps below zero F and plumping up in late spring.
I have one just like yours at 2:32 and its the first Cactus I bought and I was worried it must be dead. Its July now and I bought it in February, it was wrinkled at the base just like that when I got it. What can I do to bring him back to life.
All about the seasons and weather. Daytime high temps in my greenhouse start to dip below 21C/75F about late Oct and rise above that again around Mid March. So I stop watering my cacti two months later than you but start watering again about the same time. I live in one of the warmest places in UK. In recent years autumn temps have been significantly above average. I expect a similar pattern this year. Summers are creeping later and later into Autumn. September, certainly where I live is very much still summer.
So very true, I am in Belfast and its not the sunniest of spots hahaha :-D and our temperatures are much lower than most of the UK, but even here and when I lived in the south of Ireland September and October and even November are so much milder and September and October are sunnier than the middle of summer haha :-D we get very little frost here as the nights rarely drop below freezing but rain is endless haha :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comments and for watching and sending lots of love and plant power your way for a fantastic day today XXXXXX
Mine is a purple sulcorebutia ( Violacinaderma ? Spelling is wrong ). It’s spongy at the bottom , but it’s got lots of firm babies growing from the tops of the spongy part . It’s as if it’s using up its original body to make babies. It’s under grow lights year round and 70-80 degrees . I unpotted it to check the roots . They’re gorgeous, fat , white healthy roots . So I have put it in water to give it water therapy after letting the roots heal for several days . Is that a good idea? I’m hoping to give the original body of the plant some plumping . I’m thinking It was root bound or the soil was too compacted and maybe it wasn’t up taking water properly. This exact scenario is never discussed. It’s usually outdoor succulents and cacti that get more coverage. Thank you so much 😊
Thats fantastic news the roots are nice and healthy, and the good news is its normal for Sulcorebutias to go spongy when they are growing pups, its best to keep your cactus mostly dry now until the spring, but a few of days with the roots in water before repotting again won't hurt, but when you repot it again keep it mostly dry until the Spring, if you have your Sulcorebutia indoors under grow lights thats wonderful and you can just give a light watering about once every 6 weeks over the Winter months, thanks so much Jennifer for your wonderful comments and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER and have a fantastic Tuesday XXXX

I hope you can save it Barry, sorry to hear that, I am not a fan of grafted plants because they stock plant the graft is attached too nearly always die due to the difference in the care requirements between the two, hylocerus is often used a s a grafting stock and it is very rot prone, but I will be keeping my fingers crossed you can save your plant XXXXX
My lophopora suddenly getting wrink after I potting it...what to do ? Is it getting root or lack of water ?....thanks advance for you reply and hope you will answer me...❤
Hi there, sometimes this can happen as the Lophophora uses up its water stores in its plant body, and some wrinkling can be normal for these cacti, but if it continues to shrivel fast it may be best to remove it from its pot, just to double check there are no signs of insect pests on the roots or that the roots have not got damaged, good luck with your Lophophora and thanks so much for watching XXXX
Would Aloe hybrids go soft in a heated house as well during the winter? I'm giving them minimal water when soil is completely dry. Some have gone soft but still have their colour.
Hi Rick :-D it sounds perfect how you are watering them indoors, as inside the house its warmer and you can still give them a bit of water but allow the soil in the pots to dry out in between, if they are in a heated room its best to give them a good water once a month if they feel very soft, here is a video I have made on how to care for Aloe : ruclips.net/video/omStnyW0jUo/видео.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending lots of PLANT POWER your way for a wonderful day XXXX
I bought e.canariensis. I wasnt even looking for plants, i was buying groceries. The florist store was simply nearby, and i was a tad curious whether there as actually anything interesting inside...... Topic related, the shrinking is noticeable on mammillaria and gymnocalycium the most in my experience.
Well done on your E.canariensis purchase Stefan haha its too tempting :-D so true with gymnos and mammillarias they shrink so much, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending lots of PLANT POWER your way for a wonderful day XXXX
i have wild Opuntia hemifusa on my property and they are literally flat on the ground and wrinkled, its crazy how flat they get, my O. robusta is outside and its laying OVER the pot. and my indoor Opuntia are all keeled over too

my mamillaria is abit spongy i have kept it dry for almost 3 weeks should i water it again? its very hot here i live in a tropical climate we dont have winter here only wet and dry season
If it's hot &dry I would water it more like one a week... But I'm sure she has explained her tips on watering in a few videos. You could try searching "cactus care" or "how to water cacti"
Hi there :_D yes if your Mammillaria is spongy and the temperature is very hot I would give it more water as it may need more water in high temperatures XXXXX
Oh no, I would remove it from it pot to check that the roots are ok and that there are no signs of pests such as root mealy bug that can be attacking the roots, if not then it could be because of the winter and your cactus will plump back up again when watered, if its very shrivelled I would give it a watering now but make sure that its in a warm location first, or move to a warmer location if you decide to water as even at this time of year if the temperatures are low there is a possibility a cactus can still rot, also check over the whole cactus that there are no signs of hidden pests in between the spines that can suck the juices out of your plant as this can make them shrivel up, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from the Emerald Isle for a super Sunday XXXXX
Hey! Love your collection. No matter what I seem to do, my cacti and succulents keep dying! If I water them, they die. If I keep them dry, they die! They go wrinkly and almost melt away over night! Any ideas? I’ve lost so many recently and have no idea what to do. No signs of fungi/pests etc.. have a great day xx
this is the time of year i throw on my shade cloth. the sun is very intense right now, and the plants are in a vulnerable state due to winter.my poly tents have been in complete shade from the house, but in the past 2 weeks, they are now in complete sun! sunburn is a real threat until leaves come out on the trees. especially vulnerable are your lophs. those are the 'spongiest' right now. play it by 'ear'.
