The beauty of independent community radio, like KXCI in Tucson, is that there are no gatekeepers or corporate directives on what music can be played. Commercial radio is, by definition, money oriented. There are so many talented local and "unsigned" musicians around the country. Thankfully, online avenues like RUclips are accessible to all.

Record companies and radio stations have never allowed/played "good" music. Gram Parsons talked alot about that-he never got air play. I've never heard a John Prine or Guy Clark song on the radio or even Emmy Lou Harris

it's a sad irony that terrestrial radio is halfway to an outdated technology, but the really sad part is that it's hasn't been relevant to music for 20 years now. Commercial free satellite radio put the 1st nails in the coffin, then corporate radio hammered the rest in by first killing the local DJ's and community connections, then adding boring playlists recycling the same tunes over and again. I'm not really sure if "mainstream" music even exists anymore, other than being a front porch for the major labels. The best "country" music is what we call Americana by far, and country radio isn't remotely interested in these artists. Amanda's new duet with Maren Morris called Empty Cups is the most beautiful duet I've heard in years. Here's what's sick about mainstream country. Amanda is on Silver Knife Records, and as a boutique label it will gather ZERO award nominations, and will NOT be heard on any awards show. If this was Maren's record on Sony, it would garner accolades for song of the year, duet of the year, ad nauseum. I'm afraid that Jason and Amanda are looking for a mainstream no longer recognizes excellence. Too bad. Dan and Shay and Florida Ga Line have very little to fear. They and their like will continue to eat away at the heart of country music for the time being.

@@tomschmitz2935 It's on AXS TV, which is 340 on DirecTV, and I think available on Sling. Looks like eventually episodes are available for purchase from iTunes, maybe Vudu. Unless they show up somewhere else...

I think the name needs to change.
It sounds like a bunch of Wille Nelson fan's.
The Highway Women could have been construed wrong as well.
They should have done something original but added a "tribute to" to the end, I dunno, I see where she coming from

It Is something original. It's a supergroup called The Highwomen, consisting of Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris & Natalie Hemby self-titled album - all of whom did the songwriting of original material (not a covers tribute) & have successful solo careers. Your post however, does confirm, indeed, that the music isn't reaching the masses enough.
