The game is freaking huge and there are 1000´ of items you can combine in 1000´s of ways. You can play free( froob) SL ( Shadowlands) and LE ( lost eden alien,) Implantcreation, nano crystal creation, missions, bosses, groupcontent, solo content . It is freaking amazing.
Please keep uploading, I would love to see this game get more traffic that it really deserves. Have been heavily considering doing a webseries on it myself. So much passion for this game and no other mmorpg has gotten close to the deph or customization that AO has to offer.
I loved this game in the early 2000s. Was there from launch to alien invasion. Survived all the different exodus of players. It was an amazing experience and soaked up 4 years of my life. It was always huge, but I think let down by Duncan not having the resource to realise their vision. If they had been blizzard or ea then wow would never have happened. You could min max, explore, roleplay, pvp, raid, party, tell stories, run a radio station and more. It was amazing really. Something ahead of and yet of its time. DrTiny - Indepenent Rubikans, Desert Winds and Apocalypse + friend of Storm
All players need is a point in the right direction. The fact that you can level 1-100 in so many different ways, is actually a huge plus... Go do shadowlands for 10 levels, go smash subway, go do some missions, mess around in the open world on rubi ka for a while, then go to totw, get bored and go back to shadowlands... go do some alien invasion missions... go to Foreman's Office, etc etc etc it's absolutely amazing. New players just don't KNOW about all these options - they need to be shown that they can do all these different things. That's what the game doesn't do well.
Totally agree. Alot to do if you know where to look. Been looking at AO on youtube a bit more nowadays and I am this | | close to log back in. Im guessing everything is happening on the "newest" server and not the original RK1?
Dont forget SoM and Foremans. Pretty important areas for both weapons and leveling. Really, if you want to play a game like AO you really need to make friends or have folks help you get through it. Once you factor in the implant systems, buffs, and low level items needed to have a good time, you will need help figuring that stuff out AND getting these items. I have been playing AO on and off for 20 years, more than that actually. Its by far the BEST game I have ever played and has so much to offer its insane. However, like most old games (especially MMOs) its not new player friendly. Its not designed to be. Its supposed to reward engaging with the community and get help. Just like all old school MMOs used to be. They want you seeking help and asking questions from the tiny community left. I mean.... the buffing system alone is rather complicated and extremely vital. If anyone sees this, and wants help, let me know. I would be happy to jump in and do so.
You start playing the game you're not going to see anybody unless you're in the newer ICC zone. That's like a central hub there's shops for everything there and you can get missions from there and you can go to SOM and TOTW as well as having a grid exit and wampus that connect everywhere. So everybody hangs out in ICC these days. I remember when it used to be Bronto Burger lol
I mean outside of the newbie area, you'll generally see every newbie in the game unless there's so many people in the newbie area that there's a second instance. just log out and log in until you can see your friends. you'll be able to see them and chat just not in the game because it's a different existence
You should not skip Temple of the Three Winds because there's a lot of stuff there that you need that you can't get anywhere else. generally you do the shuttle port until level 12 to 15, Then you do some missions to get some tokens to upgrade your neck item, Then you do the subway to get all the special items and some of the Lost Eden edition weapons which free players can use, The juggler's treat ring and I forget what else. The temple of the three winds have all kinds of rings, a special five slot belt that adds bonuses, there's special tank armor that GOT drops, There's swords and other items... You can't skip the temple three wins or the subway. you'll be crippled later on.
This is the reason the game isn't very good and it's off-putting to new players. There's a giant open world of stuff no one is allowed to do because it's bad like you get how you're making your argument for me right?
might aswell rant abit more. Seems like everything Rubi-Ka related was dropped at 03 due to work on shadowlands. If you dig around abit and use the wayback machine you can find an almost mouth watering original roadmap for AO opening more zones and cities. Sparta is one of the cities im talking about. But hey norwegian salaries are thirsty i gues.
You're in a place where nobody goes, nobody has to go there. People get F grid all the time so we don't even need to use the wampas. the only reason to go to Galway is if you're hunting outdoor bosses. The spider is near that one
idk why, but funcom really screwed up the experience. places like omni forest and galway became.....scenic background between whompahs or going to a distant destination. subway totw/foremans became streamlined and the rest of the game became.....background. Only reason i knew about omni forest was the starting mission in rome to get the helmet and backpack with a dyna boss for "weapons testing". Other places like Galway became "because we got a team mission there" or "im farming for my pads/engi pistol". Some zones had bosses for endgame and that was the only reason for them. Others got populated by enemies for the 220 players so a leveling character would be nuked on sight(im talking about you biodomes!). Only leveling area i can think of is Mort for borgs and PW. Finally some areas got worked on somewhat with the intruduction of Miy armor to loot-tables.
They fact they got rid of the SL starter zone broke my heart I'm not talking Nascence but the one before that with the keeper and SL weapon missions. Good times with the SL only double hit stims.
excellent analysis. I have thought about this but never really put it together like that. They could have easily fixed this tbh but they abandoned the game unfortunately.
Hmm! I kinda disagree with your point of view. I've explored rk from top to bottom. I like to explore new games. Actually my first toon was 71 for like 2 years lol😊 . I was busy exploring 😂. So it's up to the player style actually. Nevertheless, thanks for posting AO content
Kind of? Effectively your froob account is notum wars, but you'll never actually see massive hunks of the game if you just do the dungeons in the ICC HQ area.
I realise I've been guided to play the "normalised" fast way of playing AO. I was personally always curious about the world and it always drawn me. If I have let's say a higher level character like.. 80 or something, does this still work to go to the zones for my level? Or it's just for low level characters?
@@silviupopovici7122 yeah! if you're in the 80's I'd start poking around 2HO, maybe 20K if you're omni. Not sure exactly if you're clan. Grab some missions from the terminals and they'll point you in a roughly level appropriate direction.
@@thestorybehindthestory6350 also sorry for asking again, what would be a good class if there is any for this approach? As i can see its gonna be a solo experience. I dont have too much experience, just reached and leveled as i said an engineer up to 80-90 in SL. Am thinking to start a new character but i would appreciate your opinion! 😁
You're acting like somebody who didn't play the game when it was new. Not your fault but things were designed that way because developers had no idea what the random ass players were going to do. They didn't know where they were going to gather or hunt or level or anything. about 2004, We were still leveling up our new characters So he's still there. also right outside Rome to the east, that's where you can get the eight parts from the mech dogs and robots for your shoulder pad quest. You can also level up with an NT there that does area nukes and gets XP for the whole team
Ever since crypto started taking off I had a small glimmer of hope one of the serious still active players would hit huge make millions then buy the game back from whoever owns it now clear the botting, stacking, boxing wipe the server then re invite all the old players and pay them 15 bucks a month to play it instead of the other way around. Still waiting, but a boy can dream.
I have been trying but its hard. They literally have not fixed shit in 20 years. Same fkin bugs as 20 years ago. Absolutely infuriating coming back after so many years and the same basic fkin bugs are present. Other than that it is much worth a play through for anyone who has not played. For returning players from 2001 - 2006 it is a fked economy with the same exact bugs and 90% less population. Regardless, still worth a play through.

I love anarchy online. it was fun, just to hang around the towns and cities.

This has always been the problem with AO. Nobody knows how to explain what's going on. Especially the guy in this clip.
No the problem is he doesn't know how or cares to edit a video before uploading it.
that game has such a steep learning curve. it really does hinder the success of the game.

Holy fuck this thing still online? Cousin and me had a hell of a time on this thing. I absolutely adored the fact you can put implants.
