Just a month after the Supreme Court granted former President Donald Trump broad immunity from prosecution for crimes committed in office, President Joe Biden has laid out a plan to reform the court. On Monday, Biden called for 18-year term limits, an enforceable code of ethics and an end to presidential immunity, though he stopped short of supporting court expansion. "This is a pretty big deal," says Jennifer Ahearn, senior counsel in the Brennan Center's Judiciary Program, though she notes that "politically, we have a ways to go before the views of the people … can actually make their way through the Washington process." Ahearn explains the potential effects of judicial term limits, which could bring the court closer in line with "the issues of the day," better reflecting the results of recent presidential elections than the current system of lifetime appointments does. Biden's proposal was buoyed by Justice Elena Kagan's public comments last week endorsing an enforceable code of ethics. This shows just "how much the conversation around Supreme Court reform has changed" as a result of the court's current ethics scandal, adds ProPublica reporter Andy Kroll, who was part of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team that exposed how Justice Thomas accepted unreported gifts from conservative megadonors who had business before the court.

Disagree - Immunity is a must for separation of powers. Without it, every government official will be unable/unwilling to make any decision, as it could very well land them in prison.

alongside the code of conduct, it is ridiculous and anyone that changes their behavior should leave SCOTUS, if you need an enforceable code of conduct as a SC Judge you are a failure
Reform would look like 10 justices, 5 republican and 5 democrat. This would eliminate ‘packing’ of the courts and would force the judges to put politics aside and judge cases on merits not polarization.

Jennifer seems to be ignoring the major issue here. SCOTUS interprets the law. She is advocating that Judges move with the times and CHANGE the law. If you want the law changed, Congress does that, not SCOTUS. There should be no such things as activist Judges, only activist members of Congress.

The president should not be appointing the supreme court justices. That is already making the process political.
Expand the court to 20 equally divided as far as political leaning. Selection would be based on merit: academic, work experience and moral standing from their teachers and collegues.
This would make them truly "independent" rather than a political battlefield.
A code of condact would be mandatory and amendable.
Congress should still question them. Their opinions should be noted on cornerstone issues. Should they change their minds on these in rulings within the first 3 years of their term, they should be questioned on why they changed their views and present evidence. Kavanaugh and Barrett misled Congress over RoeVWade and there is no accountability for them lying to Congress.
