If the ammunition fails to fire it will be ejected just like empty shells do.
This animation seems to be focused on the feeding mechanism, the most complex step of operation of this machine and the one most prone to failure.

These are typically chain driven and externally powered. The cartridge will be cycled regardless of ignition.

It is electric motor driven. Can eject unfired round as well as fired ones.
