My father came from Czech and he didn’t want to teach his children Czech. It sucked not learning at a younger age, because we couldn’t speak to my father’s family at all. Definitely had to learn it more as I got older, but I feel like I missed out on getting close to my father’s family.
Same for me. I couldn't communicate with overseas relatives.

As kids we had a pet goat also and her name was Astrid one day we came home from school and she was nowhere to be found and my mother told us that she was in the country... What we did notice that week there was more meat on our plate than usual... It was the sixties things was difficult. Thanks for sharing your stories ✨✨
