Just don't do it in the UK. Stick to a country that can cope with snow - Switzerland (obviously), Austria, Canada, Scandinavia, Russia. +1 from me for HinduCowGirl. Her videos are fantastic
Another great video. Very pretty, snow has that effect of making everything look pretty, from industrial and housing areas and the countryside, very enjoyable. Thank you once again. I hope its warm in your cab 😀
The difference I've noticed here with a lot of these long-distance European transit rail systems, is they run on single-track mainlines, whereas in the US, dual-track mainlines are very common. Then again, I think there are some factors here...correct me if I'm wrong, but these seem to be strictly transit lines, and in the States we sometimes run within or between city metro regions on existing dual track that also runs freight. This is in addition to light rail that runs about in the heart of a city. A lot of the European rail lines are impressive, we don't have enough electric rail here. A lot of these videos let you travel vicariously, especially these winter season videos where the scenery is just beautiful.
Our main lines are always at least dual-track. The single track sections you see here are enough for the operations of regional trains and there's not much freight and no long-distance passenger trains at all on these tracks. Almost everywhere in Switzerland tracks are shared by freight, high-speed/long distance passenger, regional and local trains.
Things you never hear in Switzerland: "No trains are able to run between ..... and ........ due to Extreme Weather Conditions". Note the cross-platform interchange with the two trains arriving simultaneously at Wetzikon.
Unfortunately that is not true, just this past week the Gotthard Pass mountain route was closed, as were the Lötschberg Pass mountain route, and the Oberalp Pass, all due to extreme risks of avalanches.
It does happen, but we manage it quite well I'd say. If a line is interrupted, it's mostly down to very little technical problems, like switch heaters not turning on in time. It's a small thing and can be fixed fairly easy, but it still takes time and interrupts the line until the heater is up and running...
And as you say below (slycat1939) less snow in the cities and lower elevations each year. Tragically indicative of the danger to the planet. Beautiful viewing experience as always and kudos to the professional attitude. Swiss transport does seem to show up when it's scheduled. @@RailwayEmotions
Hello Railroad Emotions in the British Version. Thanks a million for granting this memories awakening horseshoe-like travel through the urban area of Zürich. And thanks a lot for granting me the chance of making the acquaintance of the Durchmesserlinie, which is in my opinion Zürich's answer to Brussels' Premetro. But most of all thanks for the chance of practicing my Amercian English before it is about to fall into oblivion. Herbert. :-) I almost forgot to mention that I turned out as 5201st subscriber.
Liked the seeming smoothness & quietness of the ride. Hearing the names of the stations a nice add. Let us know at the start w titles on the screen that the ride will be through Zurich
I really enjoy your excellent videos. The only “Extra” I would like is a picture of the loco and what it may be hauling at the start of the film if that’s possible. Thanks

Your last video said first snow fall. So how long has it been snowing now? And how much are you expecting? On average how much does them areas get in snow inches? We here in Kansas City Kansas are expecting our second big winter storm tomorrow Friday night through Sunday morning. 4 - 6 inches or more with temps below zero tomorrow night through Saturday night. We haven't seen this much snow in many many years. Was born here but moved away years ago for bit. Came back and up till this year only seen one big storm in 2014. Last winters very mild and dry but cold. Very beautiful scenery. Love it. I am so addicted to your videos. God bless you and may you have many more safe trips.
Most snow in this video is gone in the meantime. This was filmed approx 500 meters above sea level, where it was rainy and warm in the past few days. Higher up in the mountains we've got a lot of snow, just this night it was snowing again. I don't have any numbers to tell you, all I can say is that snow is common all over Switzerland in winter, but further down and in the cities it's less and less every year.
@@RailwayEmotions Wow were getting rain now, then later tonight winter storm warnings thru Saturday. 6 -8 inches and very cold temps. Looks like the states is getting your winters this year.
Another great journey. Best watched in high summer. Real cool. Not seen this route out of Zurich HB before. Where are the night sleeper trains kept/serviced during the day? I know the TGV and ICE are taken from the arrival platforms to storage/service area straight on in-front of the station and can be seen from trains through Hardbruck and looking down from Wipkingen elevated tracks into Zurich HB. Sleeper trains park in same location?
Sleeper trains are usually a little bit further down, closer to Zurich Altstetten. The ICE and TGV you see close to the station usually don't stay there for long. They get out, get cleaned and go back into service again.
Wow! So much snow in Switzerland. Never before has it been snowing like this with blankets and blankets of snow covering the entire landscape. Even in your last video there was huge amounts of snow. How long will it continue to remain snowy in Europe?
This is nice, watching while at home with the flu.... Anyways, are the signals the only means to know how fast you are allowed to drive/ride (what do you do in a train in english?)? Or do you need extensive knowledge of the track?
Signals, timetable, track data table, together with route knowledge, is what is needed to know the allowed speeds. It's not like on the road where you're allowed to go anywhere, you need route knowledge and a "type rating" for every train type you drive. English is not my first language, I prefer saying "driving" a train, though I've been corrected that I am "operating" a train. As long as we know what we're talking about, I am fine with both words ;)
An interesting video that helped me understand better the benefits of the Durchmesserlinie, which was a huge project. In the case of heavy snowfall are there speed restrictions?
There are no speed restrictions, except for a few lines on the network, however the traction („grip“) is worse in those conditions and therefore accelerating and braking distances become longer.
Excellent video - really enjoyed it, just a shame the 'screen wipers were a bit noisy, but with views like we had I'm quite willing to put up with something like that.
A beautiful video, really spectacular. A pity you interrupt the recording when you're waiting for the crossing with another train coming in the opposite direction. Otherwise, perfect ;)
I usually cut down all stops, to show a cabride and not a train in standstill. ;) If you're interested in a completely uncut cabride, then check this: ruclips.net/video/ehOp23450H0/видео.html But be advised, this is not going to become the norm. A few viewers wanted a real feeling of time and I hope I've satisfied that need with that video.
