OMG I ALWAYS reference that lineup of old white guys at the table during the 1980s congressional inquiry where all in a row one at a time they lean into their mics and say “I do not believe nicotine is addictive”. The most outright full on lying in the public eye ever!!!
Dude, I was so close to being with u, even though mostly this episode only muddied the waters on something I thought I understood 😅 until the last example with the cheater. It’s a prolonged campaign to make a person disbelieve their reality, in which they might have suspicions and the person can abusively be like, why are you always accusing me of cheating on you! Then make them feel crazy like they’re the bad person for even questioning. And I’m also curious too more about the situations of disregulated parents, who may never have been diagnosed, but make villains out of their children so they can (unconsciously) be the perpetual victim. Could that child be said to have had a childhood of being gaslit? They’re being told a story about themselves that is not true, and constantly questioning their reality.
Hi Dr. Kirk! I have a Master's in Data Science and I think your idea of how you want to improve your cataloging system sounds interesting. If you are looking for help, I could use a project. I'm a member and a patron so I'd have access to all the content. Keep up the good work!
From a linguistics channel, I believe the phrase for "I'm mad at mom on Wed pls leave me alone" is "I am in my room only!". They covered Indian English on this one episode. I'm not Indian, but my inner teenager can relate...
Even as somebody that gets bothered by the frequent misuse of the word 'gaslighting,' there is something about it that has more of a bite to it than other more precise terms, and I think it's because it seems to imply more so that harm has been done. You've talked about before that it's not enough to just accuse someone of saying or doing something nefarious, but also emphasizes that it causes actual harm to some people. Especially when people in general are uncomfortable when their judgment, reality, and abilities are challenged regardless of intention, and the definition of the term literally involves putting all those things in doubt.

My company’s merch vendor is Fourthwall. Shipping is about 3 weeks but we like the vendor.

There is no such thing as gaslighting, it's just a fancy word for "lying"
That's absolutely not true and there is nuance.
